Effect of printing on inkjet or matrix printer

The original effect of printing lines of pixels on a transparent background. The invisible printer head prints the image line by line with each pass both to the left and to the right! This does not close the background image.

1. Preparation for animation:

Step 1. Create a new document, for example 300×70 with a transparent background.
We print some text on it. In the example, the standard Impact font is 14px. (keep in mind, the higher the text, the more layers you will have to do).

For convenience, we increase the scale: Ctrl ++ or mouse wheel (I did at 300%), turn on the rulers Ctrl + R, set the vertical guides along the borders of the text (click on the ruler and pull the guide).

For the text layer, set the transparency to 50% -60%.

Step 2. Ctrl + click on the icon of the layer with the text (load the selection),

create a new layer , add layer mask , click on the icon between the layer icon and the mask so that they are not dependent on each other.

Step 3. Making sure that it is the layer that is active, not the mask (the border is visible around the layer icon),

choose a tool Region (horizontal row) and make a selection so that it passes through the top row of pixels of the text,

fill it black color, remove selection Ctrl + D. It should look like this:

Notice that due to the mask, the fill is visible only where it intersects with the pixels of the text.

Step 4. Select the Move tool , right click on the mask layer, select

After creating a copy, a new layer will be active, just press the cursor down key on the keyboard, shifting the filled line one pixel down. (The layer with the text is necessary only for a better guide, for this we reduced its transparency).

Repeat this combination until we fill the entire text with lines.

For this lesson, I got 52 layers.

Step 5. Holding Ctrl, select each second layer starting from the bottom (do not touch and count the text layer).

With active tool Move, press the cursor key “Right” (right) on the keyboard until the selected layers move to the right, align their edge with the guide (if you press the “Right” key while holding Shift, the movement will not be 1 pixel, but 10)

Now select the remaining layers, through one, starting with the second

and shift them to the guide to the left (as you understand with the cursor key “Left”).

2. Animation

Be very attentive and careful: with so many frames, layers and monotonous actions, get confused elementary.

Step 6. Turn on the Animation window

Step 7. Turn off visibility for the text layer,

Make sure the tool is selected. , select the bottom layer (the text layer does not count).

Step 8. In the “Animation” window, duplicate the first frame (the new frame will be active)

press the cursor key “Left” on the keyboard (to the left), shifting the row of pixels, align it with the left guide.

Step 9. Pressing Ctrl, select the first and second frames, at the bottom of the animation window, press the button

set 5 frames and confirm

(the number of intermediate frames can be changed – this will change the speed and duration of the “clip”)

Step 10. Select the last frame, duplicate it 2 times.

Step 11. In the layers palette, select the second bottom layer and press the cursor key “Right” (right) on the keyboard, moving the layer to the right until the guide.

Using Ctrl, again select the last two frames, click

and re-create intermediate frames.

Step 12. Repeat steps 8 – 11 until we reach the top layer in the layers palette.

DO NOT HURRY!

Algorithm on credit:

– select a layer (do not hit the layer mask with the mouse, click on the layer name !!!);
– create 2 additional frames;
– use the “left” key to move the layer into place (help yourself with the “Shift” key);
– holding Ctrl, select the 2 right frames, insert 5 intermediate frames;
– add 2 extra frames;
– select the next layer in the layers panel (it will be higher);
– use the “right” key to move the layer into place (help yourself with the “Shift” key);
– holding Ctrl, select the 2 right frames, insert 5 intermediate frames;
– add 2 extra frames;
– repeat cycle …

For the very last frame, you can set more time for the text to remain visible for a while.

Step 13. Do not forget to set the following option to loop playback:

3. PRESERVATION OF RESULT

Step 14. Choose

Step 15. Install

Step 16. We save.
Hope everything is correct. And here is the result:
