A look from the depths

With this lesson we will create an underwater atmosphere – a look from the depths.

It is simple and interesting! Try it! So, let’s start!

Create a new document 1280×800px
Create a new layer and fill it with a gradient. (GradientTool) from light blue to dark blue.

Go to the layer styles and select the Inner Glow (LayerLayerStyleInnerGlow) using the following settings:

Then, create a new layer and select the Brush tool. (Brush): size – 400px stiffness (Hardness) – 0, White colour.
We put in the center point. Like this!

Transform (EditFreeTransform or Ctrl+Ta layer with a white point – stretch the length and reduce the width.

Move the point to the top of the image – and leave only the bottom half visible. Change the blending mode (blendingmode) on the overlap (Overlay).

Next, copy the white dot layer and reduce the size of the copy size by 50% (Ctrl+T).

The next stage of work will be the creation of rays of light passing through the water. Create a new document 2000×2000px Fill with any color and add a layer effect – Gradient (LayerLayerStyleGradientOverlay)

Translator Board: When choosing a gradient from a group Noiseyou can click a few times Randomize, to select the desired option.

We transfer the layer effect to the image state – (LayerLayerStyleCreateLayer). Then we get up on a layer with a clipping mask (top) and remove it (LayerReleaseClippingMask). Now you need to discolor the resulting image (ImageAdjustmentDesaturation).

Translator Board: If after bleaching the gradient turns out to be faint (the author of the lesson did not indicate the exact version of the gradient) try to work with the settings Brightness / Contrast – brightness / contrast (in some cases applied several times), or Levels (Cntr + L) – levels, or Curves (Cntr + M) curves. To whom it will be convenient.

Using the Crop tool (CropTool) select the area with the same size as your image “Underwater”. That is, in our case 1280×800px (in the properties panel of the tool, specify the size in px or cm). And cut out the area we need.

Copy the layer into the working document.

Change the blending mode (blendingmode) on the overlap (Overlay).

Great it turns out! Now let’s make bubbles.
Create a new layer. Choose the brush tool (Brush) – black colour.
Settings see below.

Translator Board: I increased the value SizeJitterand worked additionally with tab settings ScatteringScatter and Count. So quickly it turns out to fill the space with bubbles. In addition, you can reduce the size of the brush. Experiment!

We draw a large number of bubbles on a new layer, arranging them in a chaotic order.

Now we make the bubbles “alive” …
Change the blending mode (blendingmodea layer with bubbles on screening (Screen).

Translator Board: The author of the lesson offers to work independently with the tinctures of the Shadow, the Inner Glow and the Embossment. I have already tried and give you my options. Apply, see, try …
Layer Styles tab settings (LayerLayerStyle):

And here is the result! Impressive, isn’t it?
Merge layers, everything is ready!
