In this lesson you will work with selected images, and create a nice illustration. The idea of this illustration was created as a result of the war between raster and vector art. I tried to make the image simple, but, at the same time, spectacular. I hope that you will benefit from this lesson and apply it to your own work.

Step 1. First, create a new document 1100×1500 px with a resolution of 300 px. For this work we will use a texture that I really like. I really want to thank the author of this texture Princess of the Shadows (la Princesa de sombras). Place the texture in your document.
Step 2. In continuation, we need to select the illustrations that we will use for this drawing. I bought three suitable images, link to the arch.
Let’s start with image 1, use the tool Pentool (Feather) (P), we need it to create a contour around the dancer.
Step 3. When finished with creating the outline using the pen, let’s set the parameters brushes (brushtool),size 1 px and stiffness 100%. Create a new layer and name it “Contour 1”. Continuing to use the tool Pentool (Feather) (P) right-click and select in the context menu StrokePath (Outline the contour), select the Brush tool in the drop-down menu and make sure that the checkbox is not ticked Simulatepressure (Simulate pressure). In addition, you need to use a black stroke.
Step 4. We have just created an outline, but we do not need to delete the resulting sketch. Now press the key combination Ctrl + Enter, to convert the sketch to the selection area, you also need to select the layer mask. This action will hide the background around the dancer (note, before creating the mask for the layer, make sure that the layer with the dancer is active, not its outline). As a result, you should have a layer with a dancer and a layer with its outline.
Step 5. Select the “Contour 1” layer and use the tool Pentool (Pen), you need to draw several contours on the dancer. You can create these outlines from the shadows of a color photo or circle the clothing lines with StrokePath (Outline the contour) With a brush size of 1 px black. Lines, which turned out, are called vector or contour.
Step 6. Create a new layer below the “Contour 1” layer and name it “Color 1”. Now hold down the Ctrl key and left-click on the dancer layer to create a selection. Fill the “Color 1” layer with this color: # f7eedd. In addition, merge these layers into one so that you can move them together without separation.
Step 7. You need to make vector images for each dancer that is included in your composition. Repeat steps 1-6 for all dancers.
Step 8. If you did everything exactly according to the descriptions, you should have the same layers:
Step 9. Now you have vector images of all the dancers, you need to mask some parts of the dancers to achieve the effect of transformation. Select the mask of the dancer’s layer and use the tool Brushtool (Brush) black paint over the parts you want to hide.
Step 10. Now duplicate all the dancers (note: you need to duplicate the layers with vector and bitmap images (layers together with masks).
Tip: When creating duplicates for each layer, it is convenient to arrange them in groups, for example, in Dancer 1 you will have a duplicate of Dancer 1 and a duplicate of a layer with a raster image, and Dancer 1 will be located OVER a layer with a raster image. Such groups can be made for each dancer, then perhaps you will not get confused.
Change the size of the duplicates and move them to the place that you like, but always keep in mind the composition that you want to implement. In my case, you see six dancers. In addition, I masked the originals of the dancers, so that only vector images were visible. I did this in order to paint only separate sections later.
Step 11. The first thing you need to do to give life to a vector image is to highlight the area of interest.
Step 12. Now use the Splatter brush. You can use other useful brushes on the site. Using this black brush on the layer mask, start painting parts of the dancer. In addition, in some areas reduce the transparency of the brush to 20%. Thus, we have a very interesting gradation effect.
Step 13. Repeat steps 11 and 12 for each dancer. Constantly check the result of your work, do not be afraid, if something does not work, erase the areas that you did not receive, and redo it until you are satisfied with the result … Experiment!
Step 14. By this step you should have a clear composition with good dynamics.
Step 15. Let’s add ravens to our image. I used two pictures of crows.
Now that we have these images, apply the same effect to them as to the dancers (approx. You must first cut out the crows). This means that you need to create a vector image of the ravens and paint them with Splatter brushes.
Step 16. When working with crows, create groups for everyone (just as recommended in step 10), so your work will be more organized.
Let’s use another image. Duplicate this pen as many times as you see fit to give the best visual effect to our composition. As you see, I didn’t add a lot of feathers, just a little bit, just to give them a dynamic composition.
Step 17. Create a group above all layers and name it “Circles”. Also create a new layer in this group and use the settings Brush (Brushes), which are listed below, use the same color as vector images (# f8efde).
Now that you’ve created a brush, draw some circles on the composition. Be careful not to overdo it.
Step 18. Create a new layer above the circle layer. Hold down the Ctrl key and left-click on the layer with circles to load the selection. Select the layer you created. Use the tool Lasso (Lasso) and right-click on the selected area to select from the context menu Stroke (Run a stroke). Set the width to 1 px, select black as the color, and create a stroke on the new layer, name it “Centering” (note the names you can think up to your liking, so that you yourself can more easily navigate).
Repeat this step a few times to get more circles without a fill.
Step 19. Create another layer to make more circles, but now with different settings and a different color (# 8bb687).
Step 20. Repeat step 19, but this time with a different color (# 99a3b4), placing circles in the opposite side from the others.
Step 21 Now for the layers that we did in steps 18 and 19, apply BlendMode (Blending options) ColorBurn(Blackout basics).
To complete the work, you can add some more spots, you can also add your logo and you’re done! You can see my final result here.
