Create a retro poster in Photoshop

Materials for the lesson:

Let’s start with creating a new document. File – New (File> New) 1920? 1200px / 72 dpi. Open the paper texture file. Put it on our document as a background for our future poster.

Next, we will do a little color correction. Click on the bottom layer panel. Create New Adjustment Layer – Curves (Create new adjustment layer> Curves)

… and then create New adjustment layer – Hue / Saturation (Create new adjustment layer> Hue / Saturation)

Look for the stock image of the radio.

Cut out the image and place it on a new layer.

Duplicate the radio layer. Click on the top settings bar. Preserve pixel transparency (Lock Transparent pixel), select brush black and paint over the radio on the copied layer.

Disable the function Save transparency pixels(Lock Transparent pixel) and then we go Filter – Blur– Blur by Gauss (Filter> Blur> Gaussian blur).

Create a new layer and place it under the radio copy. Choose a tool Fill (Paint Bucket Tool (G) to fill the new layer with white color.

Let’s merge both layers (the radio copy and the white layer). Hold down the CTRL key and select the layers. Next, press CTRL + E to merge the layers. On a rasterized layer, apply Filter – Appearance – Colored halftone (Filter> Pixelate> Color Halftone).

Place this layer under the radio layer and set the blending mode for this layer. Multiplication (Multiply):

Next, we download a set of abstract brushes for Adobe Photoshop, which are called: 1. extremelyABSTRACT_by_env1ro, 2. Floral_by_solenero73, 3. bloodbrushes2_invaynestock. Create a new layer and select the following brushes, which are called extremely ABSTRACT_by_env1ro.

Apply a few strokes and place this layer below the radio layer.

Set the blending mode for this layer. Spot Light (Pin Light):

Create a new layer and apply white brushes on the new layer, which are called bloodbrushes2_invaynestock.

Apply a few strokes and place this layer above the previous layer, but below the radio layer.

Set the blending mode for this layer. Linear light (Linear Light). Next, apply Styles layer(Layer Style). Either double-click the layer with the left mouse button, or select the layer styles in the lower settings panel and select Stamping (Bevel and Emboss) as shown below:

Put a tick Stamping – Texture (Pattern) (Bevel and Emboss> Texture (Patterns)

Set the parameters for Embossing – Textures (Bevel and Emboss> Texture)

Set the parameters for Gradient Overlays (Gradient Overlay)

Parameters for Gradient Editor (Gradient Editor):

Using tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool (U)) Draw on the new layer a small circle of hue # 7B5D2A.

Using tool Rectangular area (Rectangular Marquee Tool (M)), we need to make a selection in the form of a strip. Next, press the DELETE key. Thus, we will cut the circle into several small strips.

Cut the circle and, using the tool Free Transformation (Free Transform), you can expand the image, place as in the screenshot below. Place the circle layer below the radio layer.

Duplicate the circle and circle layer tool. Free Transformation (Free Transform) make a smaller circle and place it as in the screenshot below. Place the layer with a small circle below the radio layer too.

Next, create a new layer. On a new layer, apply brushes Floral_by_solenero73. Change from time to time Opacity (Opacity) brush.

Next, select Layer styles (Layer Style). Double click on the layer and select Shadow (Drop Shadow) set the parameters as in the screenshot:

Create a new layer and fill it with the tool. Fill (Paint Bucket Tool (G), tint # 959595.

Apply for this layer Filter – Noise- Add Noise (Filter> Noise> Add Noise).

Set the blending mode for this layer. Soft light (Soft Light).

Create a new layer and apply the tool to it. Gradient Gradient Tool (G) to darken the top of the image.

Apply for this layer Filter – Distortion – Wave (Filter> Distort> Wave).

Using tool Free Transformation (Free Transform), expand the created black lines, stretch them along the length and place as shown in the screenshot below:

Apply to the black lines layer layer mask , by clicking on the icon in the bottom toolbar. Via brushes black opacity 15% (Opacity) process the band on the radio.

Install Wolive tree (Fill) at 0% for this layer and select Layer Styles (Layer Style), double-clicking the left button on the layer, activate Gradient Overlay (Gradient Overlay), as shown below:

Parameters for Gradient Editor (Gradient Editor):

Create a new layer, choose a yellow brush Opacity 20% (Opacity) and draw a few spots on the marked areas.

Change the blending mode for this layer to Saturation (Saturation).
