In this lesson, we will create a flyer for a party dedicated to Valentine’s Day, in time for the celebration of this famous holiday of love, which takes place in February of each year. A charming girl in red, rose petals, a text of gold, light effects – these are the main components of this picture.
Create a new document in Adobe Photoshop, save it in PSD format. Set the approximate parameters 740x1080x. If you want to set other dimensions of the working paper, then go Image – Image Size (Image> Image Size) and simply change one parameter so that the proportions of the sides are preserved. Create a new layer with Background (Background layer), fill this layer with white. To the created layer, apply the layer style. Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay). In the gradient settings window, set the following gradient colors: # 224d6b, # 2989cc, # e9faff, # 5d4401, # d99f00 and # fcf5e1.
Add a model image to our working paper. Using the selection tools, remove the background in this image. When separating the hair from the background, create a rough selection, because we will fix this in the next step.
Open the image with painted hair. Apply scaling. Arrange the hair as shown in the screenshot below. To the layer with painted hair, add an adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) as a clipping mask. Merge adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) and a layer with painted hair.
Duplicate the combined layer with the hair. Arrange the duplicate layer as shown in the screenshot below. Using tool Eraser (Eraser Tool), hide the extra hair.
Turn off visibility of the gradient fill layer. Using tool Finger (Smudge Tool), draw a combination of two layers with painted hair curls with the original image of the model. In tool settings Finger (Smudge Tool), do not forget to put a tick in the box Sample from all layers (Sample All Layers).
Select all the layers related to the model, including the layers with the drawn curls of hair, then right-click on the selected layers and in the appeared window select the option Convert to smart object (Convert to Smart Object). Name the new layer with the smart object Lady in Red. Duplicate the “Lady in Red” layer, and then to duplicate the layer, decrease the value Fillings (Fill) to 0%, and also apply a layer style Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).
Next, add an adjustment layer. Gradient map (Gradient Map), set the gradient colors: # ff79e6 and ffb285. Change the blending mode for this adjustment layer. Gradient map (Gradient Map) on Chromaticity (Color) opacity (opacity) layer 50%. Add another adjustment layer. Photo filter (Photo Filter), set the color: # ea1a1a, blending mode Normal (Normal), layer opacity is 100%.
Using tool Pen (Pen Tool (P), create a shape as shown in the screenshot below. Name this layer “Shape.”
Select the texture of the tree at your discretion. Move the selected texture to our working paper, placing it on top of the “Shape” layer. Right-click on the tree texture layer and in the window that appears, select the option Create clipping mask(Create Clipping Mask). Use the tool Move (Move Tool (V) to offset and the desired location of the texture.
Select tool again Pen (Pen Tool (P). Create a new shape, as shown in the screenshot below. The color of the new shape is # 2b2420. Add any text to your liking. I applied a gold style to the text.
It’s time to add text in a glamorous style, using the effects for the text, which you can find in the archive with the materials for the lesson. For the main text, I used the font “Olympic Branding”.
Using the original images with rose petals, create a beautiful frame for our picture.
Create a new layer, name this layer “Rose Petal Pattern”. Fill this layer with white. Set the value Fillings (Fill) 0% and also add a layer style. Pattern overlay (Pattern Overlay). In the settings window of this layer style, set the pattern of rose petals. Before you apply this pattern, you first need to unpack the archive in a ZIP file, and then install the file with the pattern with the PAT extension. into Photoshop program.
Transform the “Rose Petals Pattern” layer into a smart object, and then apply filters to this layer Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur) and Motion blur (Motion blur). Set the values for these filters, which are shown in the screenshot below. And also add a soft shadow effect, for this apply a layer style Shadow (Drop Shadow).
If you want, you can add an image of a red rose. To layer with rose, apply layer styles Shadow (Drop Shadow) and Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).
You can add petals to the foreground, one petal on separate layers. Increase the scale of the petals to about 120-150%, and then apply filters to these petals. Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur) and Motion blur (Motion blur) to create a dynamic effect. Also apply a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow). You can add as many petals as you like, as well as arrange them at your discretion.
Create a new layer. Name this layer “Highlights”, fill this layer with white color. Reduce value Fillings (Fill) to 0% and then apply a layer style. Pattern overlay (Pattern Overlay), using the pattern of the light flare. In the previous steps you unpacked the archive, in this archive you will find a texture with light highlights.
As a final touch, you can add a light highlight. Choose any flare at your discretion, and then add it to our working paper. Change the blending mode for this layer with a highlight on Lightening (Screen) or Light replacement (Lighten), select the mode that is more suitable.
Next, add an adjustment layer. Photo filter (Photo Filter), in the settings window of this adjustment layer, set the color to # ea1a1a. Change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light), and also reduce opacity (opacity) up to 50% or less.
At the end, you can apply sharpness to the image using a filter. Colour contrast (High Pass) to enhance image contrast.
So, we have completed the lesson. You can see the final result in the screenshot below. I hope you enjoyed this lesson and you are ready to begin it.
If you want, you can use the free action with the effect of dispersion, which will help to create a more interesting effect. To do this, create a merged layer from all visible layers, and then to the merged layer, apply the specified action. You can also play with offset, duplication, scaling of layers up to 150%, adding filters Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur) and Motion blur (Motion blur) to get a similar or better result.
