Explosion theory

In this easy tutorial made using Photoshop CS3, you will see how to create an attractive explosive wallpaper.

First, create a new file. File – New (File – New), with settings 1280×1024 pix and resolution 72. Then select Fill tool (G), Colour # C2C2C2 and make a background.

Materials for the lesson:

Using the tool Rectangle tool (U) (Rectangle tool) drag a rectangle over the document to create a background.

Then, use the settings below for the created layer, click on the layer in the layers palette. Blending Options – Gradient Overlay (Blending Options — Gradient Overlay)

Gradient Settings:

Blending Options – Pattern Overlay (Overlay Settings – Pattern Overlap)

For this step select Pen Tool (P) (Pen tool) and draw an explosion on your picture.

Translator’s comment: Actually, as I suppose, this was done not with the Pen tool but with the Arbitrary shape tool, in the standard set of the palette of which there is a “Star Blast”.

Create a new layer and select from the standard set a brush of white color, Opacity (Opacity) ten% and large diameter, first. Then reduce the diameter, and the Opacity 40%. By this we will make a flash of light on the bomb.

Using Ellipse tool (U) (Ellipse tool) make a hole on the cap, color is black.

Tool Ellipse Tool (U) (Tool “Ellipse”) we need to draw the pupils of the black color.

Further using Pen Tool (P) (Pen tool) Draw eyebrows over the eyes of the bomb, color is black.

Now you can draw a shadow under the bomb, color # 574901. Select Ellipse Tool (U)(Tool “Ellipse”). Place this layer under the bomb layer (in the Layers Palette).

Create a new layer that is placed above the shadow layer in the Layers Palette. Select a new layer and a layer with a shadow, then merge them by pressing the key combination CTRL + E. For the new layer, apply the following: Filter – Blur – Gaussian blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur)

Using Pen tool (P) (Pen tool) Draw a shadow under the bomb’s hat. Using tool Convert point tool (Tool “Angle”) adjust the contour curvature. Colour # 2A2929. Layer a layer below the bomb’s hat layer (in the Layers Palette).

Use the same method described earlier when we drew a shadow for a bomb to make a shadow for a bomb hat.

Now is the time to draw a fuck of white, using Pen Tool (P) (Pen tool), making appropriate shape correction with the tool Convert point tool (Tool “Angle”).

Next we need an area for the future word, select Ellipse Tool (U) (Ellipse tool) and add two anchor points using Add anchior point tool (Tool “Pen +” Add anchor point), and as always Convert point tool (Angle tool) for correction.

Translator’s comment: Such a figure can also be found in the standard set, but the authors of the lesson specifically use the Pen so as not to go easy ways using ready-made figures, but to teach how to use other tools.
