Who among us at least once in his life did not dream of getting on the cover of a magazine. It’s time to make this dream more real.
Step 1.
First, pick a photo that you would like to place on the cover.
Further Rectangular Marquee (rectangular selection), Select – Transform select (Selection – Transform the selected area) transform the selection to journal proportions Image – Crop (Image – Crop). Crop the photo according to the proportions of the magazine, increase the size of the canvas, so that there is room for creativity Image – Canvas Size (Image – Canvas Size).
Step 2.
The next step is to add to the photo elements specific to the magazine. Using the tool create a selection on the new layer, set the color for the foreground that you like and fill the selection (Edit – Fill, or Alt + del.
Reduce the transparency of the layer, focusing on the image below.
Choosing a tool Text tool, add an inscription to the image. This may be the title, e-page, recommended price, date. Also, if you wish, you can add a barcode (I think it will not be difficult for you to find the barcode image on the Internet).
Step 3.
Having added all necessary elements, we will be engaged in transformation of “journal”.
Merge all layers together Shift + Ctrl + E. Further Edit – Transform – Perspective (Edit – Transform – Perspective) Focusing on the screenshot below, change the perspective of the layer. Visually, the journal should be in a horizontal plane.
Step 4.
Next, apply the deformation Edit – Transform – Warp (Edit – Transform – Warp. If you have Photoshop under CS2, then you will not be able to perform this function). After experimenting with the deformation, try to achieve a waveform from the magazine (note that the left side of the magazine should be “lowered” and the right side “raised”).
Step 5.
Duplicate the layer. Using the “warp”, change the shape of the bottom layer to make a separate page.
Step 6.
Image – Adjustment – Hue /Saturation (Image – Adjustments – Hue / Saturation), in the dialog that appears, lower the value Lightness (Brightness) to 0% (this page will be the lowest. When we create the next pages, we will increase the value Lightness, to get different shades of gray. The same step can be done in another way: Ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail, select a color through the color palette and fill the selection Alt + Del.
Step 7.
Repeat Steps 5 and 6 to add multiple pages. Each new page should be different and the shape and shade of gray from the previous page.
Step 8.
Merge the layers under the cover. Using the tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal Lasso), select only the edges of the pages (on the merged layer) that make up the bottom of the magazine. Further Filter – Filter Gallery – Artistic /Underpainting (Filter – Filter Gallery – Imitation – drawing on the back)
Settings:
Textural background(Texture Coverage) – 40
Texture (Texture) – canvas
Scale(Scale) – 100-150
Relief(Relief) – 43
Shine (Light) – up (top)
Adjust the position of the sliders to get the lines, i.e. this filter will give us an imitation of a large number of pages).
Double duplicate the “filtered” layer. Now change Blending mode layers with pages (three identical layers, bottom to top): Normal, Linear dodge, Difference (Normal, Linear Clarifier, Difference). Experiment with layer opacity.
Step 9.
Add a shadow. To do this, select in the menu Layer – Layer style (Layer – Layer Style) – Drop shadow. Adjust the shadow to your taste.
Step 10.
The final touch is left to put the magazine on the table. Create a new layer at the bottom of the layers palette, fill it with any color, apply a texture Layer – Layer style – Pattern overlay (overlay pattern). Select a wood texture or any other.
