Inlaid diamonds heart in Photoshop

Girls’ best friends are diamonds! And since the holiday is coming, then in this lesson I will show you how to create a beautiful heart encrusted with gorgeous brilliant diamonds. Therefore, if you can not afford it in reality, then you can still make someone happy by creating this design! So let’s get started!

The final result:

1. Create a background

Step 1

Open Photoshop. Create a new document in Photoshop with the following dimensions 1000px 1000px, resolution 300 pixels / inch:

Step 2

Fill the background with dark red (# 40020f) with the tool Fill (Paint Bucket Tool (G)).

Step 3

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N). Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool (B)), increase the size of the brush to about 1200 px, or until the edge of the brush touches the contour of the work area. Set the brush color to a bright red tint (# ff062f), and also reduce Rigidity (Hardness) brush up to 0%. Draw a soft light spot in the center of the image.

2. Draw a Heart

Step 1

Next, we need to draw a contour of the heart, to make it easier to create a heart shape of diamonds! Choose a tool Arbitrary shape (Custom Shape Tool (U)). In the menu of this tool, select the shape of the heart. Set the stroke color to white, thickness Strokes (Stroke) 2 pt. For the layer with the shape of the heart, create a separate group to improve the organization of work with the layers.

Step 2

Now let’s go to the arrow! Choose a tool Line (Line Tool (U)), make the same settings: stroke color is white, thickness Strokes (Stroke) 2 pt. Draw the point and feathering of the arrow to make Cupid’s arrow. The lines should be simple, the heart and the arrow we need only as a guide to add diamonds.

3. Add Diamonds on the Heart and Arrow

Step 1

Open the original image with diamonds in Photoshop. Try to pick a picture with diamonds with a black background to make it easier for you to separate the stones from the background. Using tool Magic wand (Magic Wand Tool (W)), select the black background, and then press the ‘Delete’ key to delete the highlighted background. Now using the tool Fast selection (Quick Selection Tool (W)), select the diamond, and then copy / paste (Copy / Paste) on our working paper.

Step 2

Press the keys (Ctrl + T) to activate the tool. Free transformation (Free Transform), reduce the size of the diamond so that it fits inside the contour of the heart. Repeat this step to add more diamonds, do not forget to vary their size.

Step 3

This part of the lesson on filling the heart shape with diamonds will take some time, so be patient! The technique that I consider most appropriate is to create several duplicates of a certain size (just right-click on the diamond layer and in the appeared window select the option Duplicate layer (Duplicate Layer)), the arrangement of duplicate layers across the entire heart shape, and then resizing the next diamond to repeat the process. Since we have clear boundaries of the contour of the heart, we should not worry about the empty voids.

The result should be as in the screenshot below. The heart must be completely filled with diamonds.

Step 4

Repeat the previous steps, only this time fill the boom contour with diamonds. Vary the size of diamonds for a more balanced look. Now turn off the visibility of the layers with the drawn figure of the heart and arrow, since they are no longer needed. Combine all the layers with diamonds.

The result should be as in the screenshot below. This is how the heart and the arrow should look after we fill them fully with diamonds.

Step 5

Next, we will create the brilliance that we add to the diamonds. To do this, we will draw a line 1px thick with the tool Pen (Pen Tool (P)). Next we go Filter – Blur- Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur). In the settings window of this filter, set Angle (Angle) at 90 degrees, and Bias (Distance) by 15 px to blur the first line. Duplicate the line several times and then use the tool. Free transformation (Free Transform Tool (Ctrl + T)), rotate the duplicate lines to make an asterisk.

Merge layers with lines. Duplicate the resulting merged layer to make a few stars. Arrange the stars over the entire heart shape.

4. Perform Color Correction.

Step 1

Next, we need diamonds to sparkle! Create a new layer, change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (Overlay) and using the tool Brush (Brush Tool (B)), paint over some areas with a white brush where the diamonds should sparkle.

Step 2

Next, we will add a simple vignette effect, to do this, create a new layer on top of all other layers. Fill this layer with black and then with the tool Eraser (Eraser Tool (E)) hide the black fill in the center of the image.

Step 3

Add adjustment layer Color Balance (Color Balance) on top of all other layers. In the settings of this adjustment layer set for Medium tones (Midtones): Greens (Green) -30, Blue (Blue) +33, and for mode Sveta (Highlights): Red (Red) +19, Blue (Blue) +11.

Step 4

Create a new layer, fill this layer with neon green (# c7ec18). Change the blending mode for this layer to Darkening basics (Color burn) and also reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 25% to create a light cold shade.

Step 5

As a final step, we will add a shadow to the heart of diamonds. Create a new layer below the diamond heart layer and draw a shadow using a soft black brush. Decrease Opacity (Opacity) of a layer with a shadow to 25%.

And we have completed the lesson! I hope you enjoyed the lesson and created a beautiful diamond heart for someone unique in your life!
