In this lesson you will learn how to make a Valentine’s Day card. Probably every Photoshop should give a gift made with their own hands and, of course, in Photoshop! It is safe to say that someone will be happy to receive such a gift.
Today we will make just such a colorful postcard.

Also in this lesson you will learn how to create a bulk box and apply a pattern to it from different angles.
Step 1. Create a new document with this size: 800 x 800 pixels. Set color Foreground (foreground color) to # f40003 and Background color (background color) # 550000. With tool Gradient (Gradient Tool) add a radial gradient above the background layer.
We get this result.
In the next steps, you will learn how to create a 3D box and apply a pattern to each side.
Step 2. Create a form using the tool Pen (Pen Tool). For this form, use the following color: 7c0101.
Add a layer style Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay).
Step 3. After that create another document of the following sizes: 33? 33px Choose a tool Arbitrary shape (Custom Shape Tool), and take the standard heart shape. Add a heart to this little document.
As you can see from the previous screenshot, the author added Stroke (Stroke) in 1 pix. Here are the settings:
Now go to the menu Editing – Define a pattern (Edit – Define pattern). Enter the name of this pattern and click OK.
Note translator: Do not close this document yet, it is still useful.
Step 4. Let’s return to the document with a postcard. Using tool Pen (Pen Tool) draw the left side of the 3d box.
Now add the following layer styles.
And so, the left side of the box will look something like the screenshot.
Step 5. Now duplicate the left side and turn it in the menu. Editing –Transform – Flip Horizontal (Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal). Move the duplicate to the right. Of course, you noticed that the pattern does not look like it should be corrected.
Step 6. In this step we will fix a small problem with a pattern on the right side using a simple trick. Let’s return to the small document in which we created the heart and go to the menu Editing –Transform – Flip Horizontal (Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal).
From this document, create a pattern in the menu again. Editing – Define a pattern (Edit – Define pattern). Enter the name of this pattern and click OK. And now apply this pattern to the right side of the box.
Note translator: Holding the key Alt, Drag layer styles from the left side of the box to the right side layer. Replace the pattern in the layer style settings with the last one created.
When you fix the pattern, everything will look as it should.
Step 7. Make a reflection for the box.
Note that you need to create two more patterns on a small document with a heart. This time, turn the heart vertically, and after that you can flip it horizontally. In the screenshot below you can see what patterns need to be prepared.
Here is what the reflection will look like.
Note translator: To reflect, you need to duplicate the layers on the left and right side of the box, reflect them vertically and apply the right pattern to each of them (the third and fourth of those you created).
Step 8. Select both layers with reflection and click on CTRL + E. This key combination will merge the layers into one and at the same time rasterizes the resulting layer.
Take the tool Eraser (Eraser Tool) with a round, soft brush and erase the bottom of the reflection.
Step 9. Using tool Pen (Pen Tool) make the upper parts of the box.
Add layer styles.
We get this result.
Below these two layers, create two more and draw shapes on them. They will serve us for the shadow. Fill them with dark color and lower them Opacity (Opacity) up to 20%
Step 10. Choose a tool Pen (Pen Tool) and create a contour as in the screenshot.
Make sure your palette is open. Contours (window – paths). Right click and select Duplicate contour (duplicate Path). Click Ctrl + T, and then go to menu Editing – Contour Transform – Flip Horizontal (Edit-Transform Path-Flip Horizontal). Move the contour to the right side to make a heart.
Note translator: For some reason, the Duplicate Outline option in the Outline Palette is inactive for me. I chose the Black Arrow tool, pressed the key Alt and dragged duplicated contour.
Step 11. In this step, the author has his own brush for stroke contour. You need to either pick a similar one, or choose another one that you think is more suitable.
Make sure that in the contour panel, select the contour that you now need. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + Alt + N) or simply click the icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Choose a tool Brush (Brush) and make some changes for it, as in the screenshot below.
After you have made the brush settings, click on the button Brush the contour (Stroke path with brush) in the contour panel. The color of the brush should be white.
Here is the result.
Select another path and follow the same steps as the first one.
Step 12. Now you need to make some changes in the palette of brushes. In customization Scattering (Scattering) tick Both axes (Both axis).
Note translator: The settings for this brush are in this lesson in step 5.
Select each contour and click on the button. Brush the contour (Stroke path with brush) in the contour panel. The color of the brush should be white.
Step 13. On the new layer we will work with a brush. To fill the bottom of the box with asterisks.
Step 14. Using tool Pen (Pen Tool) create another contour.
Select this outline and click on the button. Brush the contour (Stroke path with brush) in the contour panel. The color of the brush should be white.
Step 15. Now use a brush with hearts. You can download them, you can do it yourself. From the shape of the heart to determine the brush.
Create a new layer above the background layer and make some random drawings with a heart. You can use your own settings. Scattering (Scattering) and Shape dynamics (shape dynamics).
As well as a brush around the edges of the postcard.
Well, here we come to the end of the lesson, and have prepared postcards for your dear and beloved!
