In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a pattern with weaves.
1. Preparation of the document
Create a document of 140 x 193 pixels with a resolution of 72dpi.
Move on View – New Guide Layout (View – New Guide), activate Columns (Columns) and Rows (Rows) and for each enter 2. Click OK and move to the next step.
Calling the menu again New Guide Layout (New guide) and customize Margin (Indent). In each field, enter 27 and click OK.
Add the last lines with the following parameters:
Top (Top): 60 px
Left (Left): 42 px
Bottom (Bottom): 60 px
Right: 44 px
Below you can see the final grid of 7 columns in 7 rows. Lock the grid with the key combination Alt + Ctrl +; and fill the layer in gray (# 707070) using Paint bucket tool (G) (Fill).
2. Create a texture
Take Rectangle tool (U) (Rectangle) and create a long rectangle measuring 262 x 13 pixels. Fill color set to yellow (# ffef42) (or any other of your choice). Make sure that the toolbar mode is on the top options bar. Rectangle tool (U) (Rectangle) is set to Shape (The form).
Select the rectangle and go Edit – Transform – Rotate (Editing – Transformation – Rotate). Turn it 45 degrees. With help Move Tool (V) (Moving) align the rectangle by the intersection of the guides of the fourth column and the third row.
On the layers panel, right-click on the rectangle layer and select Duplicate (Duplicate). Move on Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontally). Align the copy in the same way as the original. Notice how the two rectangles form the letter X.
Duplicate the rectangle again. This time align it with the intersection of the guides of the fourth column and the fifth row.
Duplicate the rectangle that starts in the upper left and ends in the lower right. Align it by the sixth column and the second row. The arrows below in the screenshot indicate the places you should pay attention to when leveling.
We repeat the same for the left part of the document (this time we duplicate the diagonal, which begins in the upper right corner and ends in the lower left). To perfectly align the diagonals with the guides, use the arrows on the keyboard.
Repeat the process from the fourth step for the bottom of the pattern. Align the right diagonal of the sixth column and sixth row. Align the left diagonal of the second column and sixth row.
Hit Ctrl + H to hide the guides, and go to Edit – Define Pattern (Edit – Define Pattern). In the window that appears, we write the name of our pattern and click OK. Create a new document of 800 x 600 pixels and use Paint bucketTool (G) (Fill) to fill the document with the pattern created.
If the pattern does not turn out to be seamless, it means that the diagonals are somewhere wrong. We return to the working paper and re-activate the guides to correct the errors.
