In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a surreal time saver collage.

Resources:

Step 1: Create a new document and add the sky
Move on File – New (File – New) (CTRL + N) and create a new document. Then load the image. Sky, import it into Photoshop and move it to the working document using the Move Tool (V). Then go Edit – Free Transform (Editing – Free Transformation) (CTRL + T), holding SHIFT, adjust image size. Call this layer “sky”, click CTRL + G, to put it in a group called “background”.

Step 2: Add a galaxy to the sky
Create a new layer inside the group “background” and call it “galaxy”. Then load the brushes. Galaxy brushes. Activate Brush tool (Brush) (B), choose a brush from the loaded set, set the color to # 8c8c8c and create a small galaxy in the sky. Set the blending mode to Color dodge (Lightening basics) with opacity (opacity) 25%.

Step 3: Add the first desert
Upload an image Desert 1 and import into Photoshop. Double click on the background layer to unlock it, then use Magic wand tool (Magic wand) (W) select the sky and click DELETE. With help Move Tool (Move) (V) move the image to the working document. We press CTRL + M, to bring up a window Curves (Curves) and enter the settings as in the screenshot above. Name the layer “desert 1”.
To remove the sky, you can also use Eraser tool (Eraser) (E).

Step 4: Duplicate the “desert 1” layer
Duplicate the “desert 1” layer (CTRL + J) and turn Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontally). Using Move Tool (Move) (V), move the layer to the right side of the document and call it “desert 2”.

Step 5: Add the second desert
Load image Desert 2 and import into Photoshop. Double click on the background layer to unlock it, select the sky using Magic wand tool (Magic Wand) (W), and delete it. You can also use Eraser tool (Eraser) (E). With help Move Tool (Move) (V) move the image to the main document and move Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontally). Double click on this layer to bring up the window Layer style (Layer style) and enter settings for Gradient overlay (Gradient overlap), as in the screenshot above. Call this layer “desert 3”.
Try to edit the image so that the hills in the previous desert images are visible.

Step 6: Add a Steel Mask
Upload an image Iron mask and import into Photoshop. Using Pen tool (Pen) (P), separating the mask from the background and using Move Tool (Move) (V) move to the working paper. Move on Edit – Free Transform (Editing – Free Transformation) (CTRL + T), hold down SHIFT and adjust the size; right click on the image and select Flip horizontal (Flip horizontally) and click ENTER. Name the layer “steel mask” and place it in a new group (CTRL + G), which is also called “steel mask”.

Step 7: Add a Gradient Overlap
Double click on the “steel mask” layer to bring up the window Layer style (Layer style) and enter settings for Gradient overlay (Gradient overlap), as in the screenshot above.

Step 8: Mask the lower mask area
The bottom area of ​​our steel mask should be immersed in the sand. To do this, we are convinced of the activity of the “steel mask” layer and turn Layer – Layer Mask – Reveal All (Layer – Layer Mask – Show All). Take the black soft brush (B) and draw the bottom of the mask.

Step 9: Add a Levels Adjustment Layer
Move on Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Levels (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Levels), activate the option Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask (Use the previous layer to create a clipping mask) and use the parameters, as in the screenshot above, to make the mask brighter.

Step 10: Create a mask shadow
Hold CTRL and click on the “steel mask” layer thumbnail to select it, then create a new layer and fill it with black color. Place this layer under the “steel mask” layer, then go Edit – Transform – Flip Vertical (Editing – Transformation – Flip Vertically). Place the shadow at the bottom of the mask. Move on Edit – Free Transform (Edit – Free transform), hold down the CTRL key and transform the shadow, as I did. Blur this layer Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur), then use Eraser tool (Eraser) (E) and a large soft brush with an opacity of 20% to remove some areas on this layer. Remember that the mask shadow should be dark at the base and fade smoothly. Name the layer “shadow”.

Step 11: Add a Symbol
Create a new layer, select the color # cca899, activate the soft brush (B), 100px in size and click once in the middle of the forehead of the steel mask. Name the layer “light on the forehead”, blending mode Overlay (Overlap) and opacity 75%. Then load Celtic Rune Charm Pack, open image Rune-Ger.jpg in photoshop and using Pen tool (Feather) (P) separate the rune from the background. We place this symbol on the working paper using Move Tool (Move) (V), above the “light on the forehead” layer. Name this layer “character” and change the blending mode to Overlay (Overlap).

Step 12: Add Two Scars To The Mask
Load Tree texture and import into Photoshop. We arrange the image on the working paper. Using Free transform (CTRL + T), adjust the size and position the steel mask on the right cheek. Blending mode of this layer Soft light (Soft light). Soft eraser (E) erase the extra texture area. Duplicate this layer (CTRL + J), go Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontally). WITH using free transform (CTRL + T) adjust the size of the scar and place it on the left cheek.

Step 13: Create Rays of Light
Create a new layer, take a white soft brush (B) and draw the rays from the eye mask. Name the layer “light from the eyes” and set the blending mode to Soft light (Soft light) with opacity (opacity) 85%.

Step 14: Add A Bronze Arm
Create a new group and call it “hand”. Then load Bronze hand and open it in Photoshop. Using Magic wand tool (Magic Wand) (W), separating the hand from the background and using Move Tool (Relocation) (V) placed on the working paper. Move on Edit – Free Transform (CTRL + T), adjust the size and tilt. Then activate Eraser tool (Eraser) (E) and erase the lower area of ​​the hand to immerse it in the sand. Call the layer “hand”.

Step 15: Hand Color Correction
Move on Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Curves (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Curves), activate the option Use Previous Layer to Create Clipping Mask (Use the previous layer to create a clipping mask). Use the parameters as in the screenshot above. Decrease opacity (opacity) of this layer up to 80%.

Step 16. Add three adjustment layers Color balance (Color balance), Channel mixer (Channel mixer) and Levels (Levels) with parameters as in the screenshot above. You can create all these layers from the menu. Layer – New Adjustment Layer (Layer – New adjustment layer).

Step 17: Add Texture To The Arm
Choose one of textures or find another on the Internet, open it in Photoshop and place it on the working document using Move Tool (Move) (V).

Step 18: Use the mask as a hand texture.
Duplicate the layer “steel mask” from the group of the same name (CTRL + J). Then place this layer above the layer with the texture of the hand and click CTRL + ALT + G. Set the blending mode to Soft light (Soft light).

Step 19: Create the Clock Hand
Load brushes Gearing brushes. Create a new layer, select the black color and, using one of the loaded brushes, create a clock hand coming out of the finger. Double click on the layer and enter the parameters as in the screenshot above. Name the layer “clock hand”.

Step 20: Adjust the color of the hand
Hold CTRL and click on the thumbnail of the “hand” layer. Then create a new layer and fill it with the color # d57426. Name the layer “orange hand” and set the blending mode on soft light (Soft light) with opacity (opacity) 70%. Then use Eraser tool (Eraser) (E) with a large soft brush to remove the bottom of this layer.

Step 21: Create Gears
Select the black color, create a new layer and, using the brushes loaded earlier, create several gears inside the hand. Double click on the layer to open Layer style (Layer style) and use the parameters as in the screenshot above. Then, using Eraser tool (Eraser) (E) with a small hard brush to remove excess areas of mechanisms.

Step 22: Adjust the colors and shadows of the steel mask
Double click on the layer with the hand to open the window Layer style (Layer style) and enter the parameters for Gradient overlay (Gradient overlap). Then, using the Burn Tool (Fade) (O) and Dodge tool (Lightening) (O) create light and shadow. Experimenting with Range (Range) and Exposure (Impact).
To quickly switch between Burn tool (Blackout) (O) and Dodge tool (Lighten) (O), use the ALT key.

Step 23: Create a shadow for your hand.
Create a shadow using the same technique we used for the steel mask.

Step 24: Add the clock
Create a new group and call it a “clock.” Upload an image Clock and import into Photoshop. Using Pen tool (Pen) (P), separating the clock from the background. Then move to the working document using the Move Tool (V). Move on Edit – Free Transform (Editing – Free Transform) (CTRL + T) while holding SHIFT, adjust the size of the image. Then using Eraser tool (Eraser) (E) and grunge brushes, delete some areas of the clock.
Repeat this step to add more hours. Adjust the size, slope …
After that, select all the layers with the clock and merge together (CTRL + E). Call this layer “clock.”

Step 25: Add a shadow for the clock
Double click on the “clock” layer to open the window Layer style (Layer style), and use the options for Drop shadow (Shadow), as in the screenshot above.

Step 26. Create a new layer and fill it with black. Set the blending mode to Linear dodge (Linear Dodge). Then activate Brush tool (Brush) (B) size 2-3px, choose a nice orange color and draw abstract lines around the clock.

Step 27: Add Birds
Load a set of brushes Bird brushes. Then we create a new layer and, using these brushes, we create birds in the sky. Call this layer “bird”.

Step 28: Final Color Correction
Move on Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Gradient Map (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Gradient Map) and use the parameters as in the screenshot below. Set the layer blending mode to Soft light (Soft light).

Step 29. Move on Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Gradient Map (Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Gradient Map) and use the parameters as in the screenshot below. Set the layer blending mode to Soft light (Soft light) with opacity (opacity) 38%.

Step 30. Move on Layer> New Fill Layer> Gradient Fill (Layer – New fill layer – Gradient fill) and use the parameters as in the screenshot below. Set the layer blending mode to Soft light (Soft light).

Step 31 Create a new layer, take a big soft brush (B) and draw in yellow on the left side, then choose blue and draw on the right. Set the layer blending mode to Color (Chromaticity) with an opacity of 25%.
