Create Wallpaper – The X-Files

To begin, create a new document size 1600 x 1200 px.
And by permission 72 ppi, fill it with black.

Now let’s face the alien, and for this we need the contours of this person.
Choose tool PEN and try to achieve the shape of the contours, as shown below (you should have a layer-shape (pen settings) with white fill

Double-clicking on a layer, go to Layer Style – Inner Glow (Layer Style Settings – Inner Glow)

Layer Style – Bevel / Emboss (Layer Style Settings – Emboss)

Layer Style – Contour (Layer Style Settings – Contour)

Layer Style – Satin (Layer Style Settings – Gloss)

Layer Style – Gradient Overlay (Layer Style Settings – Gradient Overlay)

Open up Gradient editor (Gradient Editor)

Ultimately, we should get a similar result:

Let’s do our eyes. Select the PEN tool again. , Try to achieve the shape of the contour of the eye cutout, as shown below (you should have a layer-shape (pen settings) with black fill. Using Ctrl + T, achieve the result you want.
Duplicate the layer and flip it horizontally. Edit – Transform – Flip to Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontally).

Combine layers with eyes. Then double-clicking on the layer, go to Layer Style – Inner Shadow (Layer Style Settings – Inner Shadow).

Layer Style – Outer Glow (Layer Style Settings – Exterior Glow)

Layer Style – Bevel / Emboss (Layer Style Settings – Emboss)

Here is what we got in the end:

Use the Pen tool again and draw the contours as shown below.

Set these settings for light and shade:
Layer Style – Inner Glow (Layer Style Settings – Inner Glow)

Layer Style – Gradient overlay (Layer Style Settings – Gradient Overlay)

Gradient editor (Gradient Editor)

At this stage, we got this picture:

Duplicate this layer, select the Finger tool. and make a slight blur at the edges of chiaroscuro in those places where it is highlighted with a marker.

Create a new layer, select Soft Brush. about the size of 120 – 150 pixels., set the color white, make a short stroke on the diagonal. Next with the tool slightly blur the layer. Optionally, you can modify the eraser.

Merge layers. Create a new layer, place it under “Alien”, select the Ellipse tool and draw a shape like below:

Set the following settings for the ellipse:

Layer Style – Bevel / Emboss (Layer Style Settings – Emboss)

Layer Style – Contour (Layer Style Settings – Contour)

Reduce Fill (fill level for layer) to 0%

Create a new layer, on the layer palette move it to the bottom, draw another ellipse or circle, perform the same operations as with the previous one.

Our result:

Now let’s do the inscription. Select the Horizontal Type Tool (Horizontal Text). Font recommend using the same as in the lesson. You can download it here.

In the Character palette (Character) for the top line, set the following settings:

For the bottom:

On the new layer, draw a small circle that will hide the letter “X”

Reducing Fill to 0%, in the layer style settings, set:
Layer Style – Stroke (Layer Style – Stroke)

Wallpapers are ready!
