We draw iPad in Photoshop

Final result:

Step 1 – Basic Form iPad 2
Create a new document with a size of 1500×1200 pixels. Use the Rounded Rectangle Tool with a radius of 45 pixels to create a basic shape for the tablet, as shown below.

Tool Free transform (Ctrl + T) change the shape as shown below. To do this, move the corners of the transformation frame.

Using the fx icon at the bottom of the layers palette, add styles. Stamping (Bevel Emboss) and Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay) to the layer with the base shape.

Result:

At the moment, the tablet looks flat and unrealistic. You need to add a noise texture to its surface. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and fill it with white. Apply a clipping mask for this layer (Ctrl + Alt + G). Now, everything we create on this layer will be within the basic shape of the tablet. Install Blend mode on Multiplication (Multiply).

Go to menu Filter> Noise> Add Noise (Filter> Noise> Add Noise).

Create a new layer above the tablet layer. Create a clipping mask (Ctrl + Alt + G). Select the layer with the base shape (Ctrl + click on the layer). Then right-click on the canvas inside the selection and select the item Perform a stroke (Stroke).

Set it up like this:

Result:

Smooth the stroke with a filter. Gaussian blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur).

Choose a tool Eraser (Eraser Tool) (E), remove the selection (Ctrl + D) and erase the top and right sides of the stroke.

Lower Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 7%.

Repeat the previous process to create another stroke. This time it should be lighter due to the light source. Install Opacity (Opacity) layer by 3%.

Step 2 – Drawing the Screen
Tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded Rectangle Tool) (U) create a shape with a radius of 50 pixels.

Tool Free transform (Ctrl + T) change the shape of the rectangle. Hold down Ctrl and work with each corner so that the corner of the screen matches the corner of the tablet’s basic shape.
Create a new document in Photoshop (Ctrl + N) with a size of 1107×831 pixels. Insert a wallpaper or website screenshot into it. Save the document as screen.psd.

Return to the main document and go to the menu. File> Post (File> Place) and select the screen.psd file. The file will be inserted as a smart object.

In Photoshop, there is a special type of layer called a smart object. It contains information about a vector or raster image. This could be a vector object from Adobe Illustrator, another PSD file or something else. Smart objects allow you to modify files without harming the original pixels of the layer.
Insert the screen.psd file into our document and set its Opacity to 0%. Modify the layer as shown below.

Set the layer Opacity to 100% and create a clipping mask (Ctrl + Alt + G). Now the inserted screenshot will be within the screen.

Now create a reflection. Tool Pen (Pen Tool) (P) Draw a white shape:

Create a clipping mask for the white shape (Ctrl + Alt + G) and lower the Opacity to 10%.

Apply these styles to the screen layer:

Inner shadow:

Internal glow:

After applying these styles, we see that the screen has become voluminous due to shadows at the edges.

Step 3 – Creating An Antenna
Using tools Rectangle (Rectangle Tool) (U) and Free transform (Ctrl + T) create a black strip on the left side of the tablet.

Make a selection of the layer with the basic shape and add a layer mask (click on the mask icon in the lower part of the layers palette).

Step 4 – Front Camera
Tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool) (U) Create a circle on the left side of the tablet.

Apply style External glow:

Step 5 – Button Home
On the iPad 2, like on other Apple devices, there is a Home button. Usually it returns the user to the main screen. To draw it, use the tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool) (U). Install Fill (Fill) of this layer at 0%.

Apply these styles:

Casting a shadow (shadow):

Inner shadow:

Gradient overlay:

Result:

Draw a rectangle with rounded edges inside the circle. Install it Fill (Fill) at 0%.

Apply style Stroke:

Result:

Step 6 – Create Smart Cover
Apple has created a special cover Smart Cover, which closes the screen iPad 2. Now we draw it.
Draw the shape shown below with the tool. Pen (Pen Tool) (P). The color is shown in the screenshot below.

Right click on the layer with the drawn figure and select the item Convert to smart object (Convert to Smart Object). Now the color of the object will be easier to change.

After the conversion, you will see this icon on the layer.

Make a copy of the smart object and change its color to # 8db0ca. Change the shape of the shape and in the tool settings, set the value Subtract the figure area (Subtract from Shape Area). We need to get the blue border of the orange object.

Create a rectangle with rounded edges and set it Fill (Fill) at 0%. Tool Free transform (Ctrl + T) change the shape as shown below.

Apply these styles:

Inner shadow:

Gradient overlay:

Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B) and black mark the marked areas. Select the layer with the shape (Ctrl + click on the layer) and press Delete, to remove the black color from the inside. Remove selection (Ctrl + D).

Tool Pen (Pen Tool) (P) Draw the front part of the shape.

In white, draw another thin shape and set Opacity (Opacity) layer by 14%. Create a clipping mask for the layer (Ctrl + Alt + G).

Draw a shadow with a black brush.

Create a rounded rectangle, modify it as shown below, and set Fill (Fill) at 0%.

Apply the following styles:

Inner shadow:

Gradient overlay:

Using soft brushdraw shadow and glow.

Draw another shadow:

Create another rectangle with rounded corners, modify it and set Fill (Fill) at 0%.

Apply the following styles:

Inner shadow:

Color overlay:

Gradient overlay:

Result:

Draw the glow on the left side of the figure:

At the bottom of the shape, draw another shadow:

Shadows and glow will help create a volumetric appearance:

Select a large soft-edged brush and draw a shadow inside the case. Remove the black color from the brush outside.

Step 7 – Hinge for the cover
Tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool) (U) create a white shape. Tool Free transform (Ctrl + T) rotate the rectangle and position it as shown below.

Apply style Internal glow:

After applying the style turned volumetric appearance.

Step 8 – Shadow from the tablet
Tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal Lasso Tool) (L) Create a selection as shown below. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and place it under the tablet layers. Fill the selection with black and remove it (Ctrl + D). After that apply filter Gaussian blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) to soften the shadow.

Use a small soft-edged brush to draw a shadow under the front of the tablet.

Tool Polygonal Lasso (Polygonal Lasso Tool) (L) Create another selection and also fill it with black on the new layer. Apply filter Gaussian blur and lower Opacity (Opacity) shadow.

Use a soft brush to draw a shadow under the cover shaft.

Step 9 – Adding Background
We have finished creating the tablet, now let’s take the background. Create a new layer under all tablet and shadow layers. Fill it with a radial gradient with white to gray color. The fill must be done from the center of the canvas.

Make a copy of the layer (Ctrl + J) and with the Free Transform tool (Ctrl + T) squeeze it to get the surface on which the tablet stands.

Step 10 – Layer Organization
We finished work on the tablet and we can finish it. If you want to distribute your work, it will be better to organize the layers so that others can sort them out. Give each layer its name and scatter them into groups.
Make a copy of the smart screen objects and cover color. Place them on top of all layers. Now, if we want to change the image on the screen or the color of the cover, we only need to work with these two layers.

Close all groups so that nothing distracts attention in the layers palette. Save the file in PSD format.

Step 11 – Change the image on the screen
Double-click on the layer with the screen located on top of all layers. You will have the following window:

Insert another image. For example, another screenshot of the website.

Press Ctrl + S to save changes. Close the smart object document and return to the main one. The image on the tablet screen will automatically change.

One more example:

Step 12 – Change the color of the cover
Double click on the cover color layer. A new document will open. Double click on the shape color icon in the layers palette.

You will open a color editor in which you can choose any color for the case.

Save the smart object document and close it. Go back to the main document and the color of the cover will be different.
