3D objects in Photoshop

In this tutorial we will draw voluminous objects using Photoshop.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 1. Create a new document size 1000×800 pixels.
Choose a tool Gradient3D objects in PhotoshopGradient“, In the settings, select Linear and fill them with a document. Gradient options:

3D objects in Photoshop

Get this background color.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 2. Create a new layer, take the tool Elliptical Marquee3D objects in Photoshop“Oval area” (M) and holding the keys Shift +Alt, draw a smooth, small circle. Fill it with white.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 3. Without deselecting, select linear Gradient3D objects in Photoshop, take color from dark brown, through light brown to white, i.e. tricolor. And fill them with a ball.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 4. The ball turned voluminous but not enough shade.
Create a new layer, draw an elongated ellipse, fill it with black.
Use transformation to rotate it.

3D objects in Photoshop

Then using filters Blur (Blur), blur the edges a bit (I used the filter Gaussian Blur (Blur on Gauss) and Blur on the surface).

Apply to this layer Layer – Layer Style – Outer glow (Layer – Layer Style – Outer Glow) and Layer – Layer Style –Inner glow (Layer – Layer Style – Inner Glow).
In both cases, I changed the color of the gradient to brown, and the Mode to Overlap)

3D objects in Photoshop

Using Edit – Transform – Distort (Editing – Transformation – Distortion) Edit – Free Transform (Edit – Free Transform), narrow one edge of the shadow to simulate the scatter effect. Apply the transformation. And again Ctrl +T slightly expand the shadow.

3D objects in Photoshop

Using Free Transform, correct the shadow.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 5. Imagine that the background is a table and we need everything around to be reflected on our ball.
To do this: create a new layer. Draw an elongated ellipse and place the selection so that the ball is divided into two. Fill the selection with black.

3D objects in Photoshop

Staying on the same layer, holding down the Ctrl key, click on the thumbnail of the layer with our ball. A balloon selection will appear. Invert selection Shift +Ctrl +I and press Delete.

3D objects in Photoshop

Blur this layer a little Gaussian Blur, To soften the edges and darken with a black brush with a low opacity ball. Ctrl +D, deselect
(to darken the lower portion of the ball, you can use the reception from step number 10, on the contrary, reducing the brightness).

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 6. Now it is necessary that something bright is reflected on it. For this tool Pen3D objects in Photoshop“Feather”, on a new layer, draw a shape on the black half of the ball.

3D objects in Photoshop

We click with the right mouse button and in the appeared window we select Make Selection “Form selected area”, feathering radius 0 pix. Fill the selection with white. And, without removing the selection, add a little yellow color with a brush with a little opacity. Ctrl +D, to deselect.

3D objects in Photoshop

Suppose that the table also reflects this bright object, then by itself it should be reflected in the ball.
Duplicate the reflection layer, apply to it Edit – Transform – Flip vertical (Edit – Transform – Flip Vertically). Lower to the bottom of the ball, reduce a little in size and lower the layer opacity.

Possible application Warp (Deformation), in order to lay this reflection on the volume of the ball.

3D objects in Photoshop

Add a reflection from the ball. This can be done by duplicating the brown ball layer, placing it below the shadow layer and reducing the opacity of the layer.

3D objects in Photoshop

Add a glow to the glare on a black background. I did this using a white brush, several layers and a Gaussian blur.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 7. Pen tool3D objects in Photoshop, on a new layer, draw a vase.

3D objects in Photoshop

Right-click Make Selection (To form a selected area). Fill this layer with the same gradient as you filled the ball (Step 3), slightly at an angle.

3D objects in Photoshop

Then, without removing the selection, create a new layer. And, slightly adjusting the gradient, fill the vase again. Ctrl + D deselect.

3D objects in Photoshop

Tool “Rectangular area”3D objects in Photoshop (M) select the bottom of the vase and press the key Delete.

3D objects in Photoshop

Or Eraser3D objects in Photoshop Using an eraser, or using a layer mask, using a large, soft brush with low opacity, make a smooth transition between layers, removing a clear border. It should turn out like this:

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 8. Now you need to draw a shadow under the rim on the neck.
For this purpose, on a new layer, I made an oval selection so that the edge of this selection corresponded to the rim shape. Invert selection Shift +Ctrl +I and a big, soft Brush with a dark brown color, low opacity, painted a shadow. Make a smooth transition from light to dark.

Do not worry if the color goes beyond the neck, now the main thing is an even bezel. Then a little blurred the edges of the Gauss.

Now, to remove the unnecessary color outside the neck, while remaining on this layer, click on the thumbnail of the vase in the layers palette. A selection appears. Shift +Ctrl +I and Delete.

Step 9. On the new layer, draw an ellipse and fill it with black.

3D objects in Photoshop

Repeat all the actions you did with the shadow for the ball. After filters Blur (Blur), just copied Layer style from the shadow of the ball and inserted into this layer. Place this layer below all the layers with the vase.

Free Transform (Free Transformation) – reduce a little in height and width, in a word adjust the shadow under the vase.

3D objects in Photoshop

In his lesson, the author drew a second shadow on the vase. As if something bright shines on a vase from the right side.

To do this, simply duplicate the layer with the first shadow. Apply to it Free transformation and by Perspectives, Distortions and Slopes, extend it slightly and scatter to the left.
I just clamped the key Ctrl and moved the frame of transformation to the positions I needed.

3D objects in Photoshop

Then, so that the bottom of the vase does not have such a sharp and smooth transition, the following should be done.
Above all layers, create a new layer by holding the key. Ctrl Click on the thumbnail of the vase in the layers palette to display a selection of the vase.

Draw a dark brown thin line, right along the bottom of the vase. Deselect and apply a Gaussian blur, quite a bit, so that only the edges of this bar are blurred.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 10. Add a reflection of the table on the vase and add a ceramic shine.
Create a new layer, select the tool. 3D objects in PhotoshopElliptical Marquee (Oval area) and draw an oval on the vase. Fill it with black.

3D objects in Photoshop

Without removing the selection, turn off the visibility of this layer (in order to further adjust the color more conveniently).
Go to the layer with a vase, click Shift +Ctrl +I. Go in Menu – Allocation – Modification – Feather or just click Alt +Ctrl +D. In the window that appears, set the radius of feathering 5 pixels.

Now go to Image – Adjustment – Brightness /Contrast (Image – Correction – Brightness / Contrast).

Increase Brightness (in version CS3, I ticked off – Use the old one and increased the Brightness to +ten).
* The author does not recommend flooding this area with a whiter light color, but using precisely the increase in brightness. Since it will give more naturalness *

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 11. On the new layer tool “Pen3D objects in Photoshop (Pen) draw a shape like in the screenshot.

3D objects in Photoshop

This will be another reflection from the light object.
Right-click on the image – Make Selection (To form a selected area), Feather area 0 pix.

Choose a tool Gradient3D objects in Photoshop (Gradient) – linear, color, for example, fromAF832A before AAV884. Fill this selection with this gradient. Ctrl +D

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 12. Create a new layer. Holding the key Ctrl, Click on the thumbnail of the vase on the layers palette.
Take Brush3D objects in Photoshop, size is small, for example19 pixels., hardness (brush hardness) approximately 50%, White colour. Draw a white strip on the neck of the vase.

3D objects in Photoshop

To give even more shine, select Brush3D objects in Photoshop multi-faceted star shapes (you can use brushes from the standard set), color white, opacity 100%.

On a new layer, click once on the edge of the neck of the vase. For more effect, this layer can be applied Layer – Layer Style – Outer glow (Layer – Layer Style – Outer Glow) and Layer – Layer Style –Inner glow (Layer – Layer Style – Inner Glow), well, and change the blending modes.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 13. Take the tool Vertical Type Text (3D objects in PhotoshopVertical text) (right-click on the “Text” tool), font and font size, select any color dark brown and write, in this case, the word PHOTOSHOP.

3D objects in Photoshop

Click on this layer on the layer thumbnail, or click on the check mark at the top near the Workspace tab. Now go to Filters – Distortion – Curvature. A window will appear in which you will be offered Rasterize the text, Click YES.
Bend the curve to the shape of the vase. Lower some layer opacity.

3D objects in Photoshop

Duplicate the text layer. Ctrl +J click “D (default colors), then “X (swap) Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of this layer and click Alt +Backspace, the selection will be filled with the Primary color, i.e. white Ctrl +D.

3D objects in Photoshop

Place this layer below the dark lettering layer. Move the white text a little to the left.

3D objects in Photoshop

Blur lightly with a white lettering. Go to Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filters – Blur – Gaussian Blur), set the radius 1.1 pix.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 14. In the same font, write another word, ART. The author took the color black, then most likely reduced the opacity of the layer. I took the same color that I wrote the word PHOTOSHOP.

3D objects in Photoshop

Click this layer on the layers palette. Click Ctrl +T, right click select Rotate 90 anti-clockwise.

3D objects in Photoshop

Now go to Filters – Distortion – Curvature. A window will appear in which you will be prompted to “Rasterize the text”, click YES. Bend a little text.

3D objects in Photoshop

* You can also bend it to the shape of a vase with the help of Free Transformation / Deformation. *
Return the text to a horizontal position, lower the opacity of the layer and do the same thing that you did with the word PHOTOSHOP.

3D objects in Photoshop

The author added another bird figure. You can take any other shape.
Select Brush3D objects in Photoshop, which will make the imprint of the figure. Colour dark brown. On the new layer, make a print and repeat the steps described above (except for the “Curvature” filter).

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 15. Add a glow on the vase. To do this, create a new layer above all layers, draw a strip with a soft white brush, in the shape of a vase. Apply a Gaussian blur to it.

3D objects in Photoshop

3D objects in Photoshop

Add a reflection to the vase. Go to the vase layer, duplicate it (Ctrl +J). Ctrl +T – Flip to vertical (Flip Vertical). Drop this layer in the bottom of the vase, swap it with all the layers of shadows from the vase, on the layers palette. Reduce the opacity of the layer.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 16. Go back down the layers palette to the layers with the ball. Find the latest layer related to the ball and above these layers, create a new layer. Draw a small, white, soft Brush with another brush, blur it according to Gauss and reduce the opacity of the layer.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 17. The reflection of the vase on the ball.
Duplicate the vase layer (Ctrl + J). With the Free Transform, reduce in size and place on the ball.

Apply the transformation and use the Move tool to place the reflection in the right place. Again Ctrl + T and using Distortion, Rotation (or just holding down the key Ctrl), Warp, place the reflection on the volume of the vase.

Click on the thumbnail of this layer to make a selection. Take Linear Gradient, reduce the opacity color from dark brown to transparent. Lightly shade the edge of the vase with a gradient.

3D objects in Photoshop

Duplicate this layer (Ctrl +J), click Ctrl +T – Flip Vertically. Drop it in the bottom of the vase and swap the layers. Then Warp to fit the shape of the ball. Then click on the thumbnail from the balls, on the layers palette, Shift +Ctrl +I and Delete. Reduce the opacity of this layer.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 18. Holding the key Ctrl, select all the layers that belong to the ball: shadows, highlights, glows. Everything except the reflection from the ball. Combine them Ctrl +E.
Duplicate this layer, swap the layers with the balls.
Place the second ball between the first ball and the vase. Reduce in size (Ctrl +T). Apply Gaussian Blur 0.5 pix.

Find the reflection from the ball, duplicate this layer. Place a duplicate of the reflection under the second ball. Apply a Gaussian transformation and blur.

Now duplicate the first ball two more times. One layer will be the third ball, the second layer will be a reflection of the third ball. Using the “Move” tool or simply holding the Ctrl key, move one ball first, then the other, so that you can see what to work with. Apply Free Transformation to one of them (Ctrl + T) – Flip Vertically.

Place this layer directly under the ball and turn a little to the right so that it looks like a reflection. Apply a Gaussian blur to this layer. 1 pix. Then reduce the opacity of the layer (if the black color is very striking, you can erase it a little with a soft eraser with a low opacity of the brush). Combine these two layers. Press Ctrl + T and reduce in size, place them further away from all items. Apply to the resulting layer with the third ball a Gaussian blur in 1 pix.

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 19. Above all layers, create a new layer and draw a white brush with the glow from the balls on the vase.
Apply Gaussian Blur, click on the miniature of the vase, Shift + Ctrl + I and Delete, reduce the opacity of the layer.
* or you can try on the layer with the vase itself, go through the instrument of clarification, choosing – Light. *

3D objects in Photoshop

Step 20. Create a new layer, below the layer with the far ball, draw an ellipse, place the selection as in the screenshot. Right-click to run a stroke. Width pix. select in your opinion, I put 15 pixels., color, either white or light brown, Position relative to the border – Center. Then apply a Gaussian Blur.
That’s what happened with us!
