3D text in Photoshop – Part II

First part of the lesson

We will devote the final part of the lesson to the decoration, created in the first part of the lesson, 3D text, using a set of brushes, textures and adding adjustment layers.

Materials for the lesson:

Brushes “RisingSun”

Brushes “gvl – Suddenly Spring”

Brushes “Flower Brush Set 1”

Texture “Grungy paper texture v.5”

Step 1

After rendering the 3D scene, create a new layer above the layer with the background, name it, for example “Dark BG”. Using tool Paint bucket tool (G) (Fill tool) fill the layer with a dark color # 3d3d3d.

Download the first set of brushes from the Internet. How to install the brush, see here. Create a new layer above “Dark BG”, a layer with a dark background. Name the new layer “Rays”. Choose as primary color # f4edd3. From the set of new brushes, select the third (or any one according to your taste), add rays to your work.

Change the blending mode of the “Rays” layer to Soft light (Soft light).

Add noise Filter – Noise – Add Noise (Filter – Noise – Add noise), filter settings, see the image below.

Step 2

Download the remaining two sets of brushes; links are provided at the beginning of the lesson. Select Sampled Brush 27, open the Brush Palette. Brush size select 70pix., intervals 130%.

Next in the settings Shape dynamics (Dynamics of the form), change Size jitter (Oscillation size) at 100%, put a checkmark on the counter Flip x jitter (Flip X vibrations) and Flip y jitter (Flip Y vibrations).

In the following settings, Scattering (Scattering), change the value Scatter (Scattering) on 400%.

Above the “Rays” layer, create a new layer, and name it “Leaves”. Make the base color # a7a400. Select tool again Brush tool (B) (Brush tool), and start creating lines from leaves, use the History Palette to undo unsuccessful strokes.

In the Layers Palette, double click on the “Leaves” layer, in the opened window add the following styles:
Drop shadow (Shadow): color # c6af90, Distance (Offset) on 2, Size (Size) on 0.

Inner shadow (Inner shadow): color # c7c6b4, Distance (Offset) on 2, Size (Size) on 2.

Step 3

Create the next layer above the “Leaves” layer. Call it “Flowers”. Primary color select # e23333.

Select the next brush from the set, Sampled Brush 19. Size 45pix., intervals 130%.

Customize Shape dynamics (Dynamics of form) and Scattering (Scattering) as shown in the image below. In any case, you have the right to change the settings as you like.

Brush the canvas, creating lines of flowers.

After you are satisfied with the result of working with the brush, double-click on the “Flowers” layer to open the Layer Style settings.
Select Drop shadow (Shadow): color # bfa98a, Distance (Offset) on 2, Size (Size) on 2.

Inner shadow (Inner shadow): color # dfc6c7.

By adding shadows, we added depths to our colors, and at the same time separated them from the background.

Step 4

Load the erased texture, and place it under the layer with the 3D scene.

Change the texture mapping mode to Multiply (Multiply) opacity decrease to 50%.

Create a new layer above the texture layer, name it “Gradient”. Black color set as primary. Choose a tool Gradient tool (G) (Gradient tool), type Radial gradient (Radial gradient) select Foreground to Transparent (From basic to transparent). Check the box opposite Reverse (Inversion). Drag from the center of the document to the edges.

Change the layer blend mode with gradient to Soft light (Soft light), opacity on 60%.

Step 5

To make the letters look brighter and juicier, add shine. In the Layers Palette, select the layer with the 3D scene, then click below on the button Create new fill or adjustment layer (Create a new adjustment layer or fill layer), select Exposure (Exposure).

Right click on the layer Exposure (Exposure), select Create a Clipping Mask (Create clipping mask).

Thus, the adjustment layer will only affect the lower layer, in this case, the 3D text.

Adjustment layer settings: Exposure (Exposure) 0.55, Offset (Shift) -0.0080, Gamma correction (Gamma Correction) 0.80.

Do not be afraid to experiment, change the settings for your work.

The final result.
