Step 1: Setup of the document
Create new document (New document) with the settings listed below. This is a simple A4 document (210 x 297). There are many formats for magazine covers. Most often, the size you will be provided by the customer. But for this project we will work with our own size, which is the standard for the size of magazines.

Set the units of measure to millimeters by right-clicking on Ruler (Ruler). Add guides to the four sides of the document. And then add guides at a distance of 5 mm from the edges of the document on the four sides. These are text fields. We will restrict our text within this area.

Leave a little space in case of an error during pruning. Set the padding to 3 mm. This is very easy to do; stretch the canvas by 3 mm around the perimeter except for the left side, since the cover of the magazine is not trimmed to the left, so there is no need for expansion from this side. Press the key combination Ctrl + Alt + C or go to the menu Picture (Image) – Canvas size (Canvas Size) to load the dialog box Canvas size (Canvas Size) and enter values.

Step 2: Sketch
After a little brainstorming, I came here to such an easy sketch in Photoshop. This is the basis of our illustration. It is quite simple and this sketch is not very detailed, but it reflects our goal well. These elements will be created by us throughout the course of this lesson. As for colors, I would like it to be a simple illustration with flat colors. We will add details in the lesson process. First, create heroes, and the rest – then.

Step 3: Making the Sun
One thing I will stick with during the lesson is to group objects into separate Groups (Group). Before you create any hero or object, create New group (New Group) and layers in this group. It will save you from confusion. Now let’s start with the creation of the sun. Create New group (New Group). Go to Layer (Layer) – New (New) – Group (Group) or click on the icon Create a new group (Create a new Group) at the bottom of the layers palette. Rename it to “Sun” (Sun), take the tool Ellipse (Ellipse), in its parameters select the parameter Layer layer (Shape Layer), set the color to a nice orange or to # e0912e and draw just such an oval shape. Make sure that the layer is created in the “Sun” group.

Draw another oval above the previous layer with the tool Ellipse (Ellipse) color # f3d28f.

Take the tool Arrow (Direct Selection) select the lower anchor point of the oval shape and, while holding the Shift key, drag it upwards in the center. Install Opacity (Opacity) layer at 60%.

Using tool Ellipse (Ellipse) draw a smaller oval. Set the color to #ffffff and reduce Opacity (Opacity) up to 30%. You can change the color of the layer with the shape by double clicking on its thumbnail.

Now create the eyes. Draw an oval as shown below using the tool. Ellipse (Ellipse). Set the color to # 000000. Draw another oval on it in #ffffff color.

Add more details as shown below using the tool. Ellipse (Ellipse).

Select the layers of the eye, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the layers, and go to Editing (Edit) – Free transformation (Free Transform) and turn the eye about -20 degrees, then press Enter to apply the transformation. Use the panel Info (Info) to determine how much you tilt the object.

Now the eye is created on one side, and we need to duplicate it and place it on the other side. To do this, select the layers of the eye, select Layer (Layer) – Duplicate layer (Duplicate Layers). So you duplicate the eye, and now press Ctrl + T, then right-click inside the frame that appears and select the parameter Flip horizontally (Flip Horizontal) from the context menu.

Go to the nose. Draw a circle with the tool Ellipse (Ellipse) as shown below. Set the color to # 9d2429.

Draw a rectangle on the circle with the tool Rectangle (Rectangle). Set the same color as above. Press Ctrl + T and rotate it 45 degrees, as in the figure below. Press Enter to apply the transform.

Add some highlights with a tool Ellipse (Ellipse).

Now create a smile using the easy way that I will show you. Draw a circle as shown below.

Now click on the thumbnail Vector mask(Vector mask) of the circle you just drew. Take the tool Ellipse (Ellipse), set the parameter Subtract the figure area (Subtract from shape area) or hold down the Alt key and draw a circle as shown below. Make sure you really draw inside the vector mask. Look at the result.

Add a little blush to the sun.

Draw flames with the tool Pen ( Pen) (P). Create them under the base layer of the sun.

Our sun is ready. I wanted to add extra touches. Add strokes with the tool Pen (Pen) (P). Take a dark brown color or # 2c1617. Circle the shape on all other layers.

Draw strokes near the flames above the layers with them.

Now draw some highlights with the tool. Pen (Pen) (P).

Step 4: Making Little Robo (Little Robo)
Turn off the ‘’ Sun ’’ (Sun) group. Thus, we can work on a uniform background. And the group will turn on later. Create a hero Little Robo (Little Robo), which we have on the outline. Create a new group and rename it to Little Robo. Create all the layers for this character in this group. Take the tool Ellipse (Ellipse), set the color to # 65a4d0 and draw the exact shape.

Remove middle reference points with a tool Delete anchor point (Delete Anchor Point). Select the top datum using the tool. Arrow (Direct Selection).

Choose a tool Angle (Convert Point) and, while holding the Shift key, click on the anchor point and expand the guides, as shown in the image below.

You need to add arms and legs to our character. Click on thumbnail Vector mask (Vector Mask) the shapes you just drew, take the tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded Rectangle) and draw them in a vector mask.

Create eyes with layer shapes just as we did before. First create one eye, expand it a bit, Duplicate (Duplicate) and Flip horizontally (Flip Horizontally) to create a pair.

Create a smile using the method we resorted to earlier.

Draw a nose.

Draw shoes.

Circle the hero along the contour on the layer created under the other layers of the hero.

Draw the antenna with the tool Pen (Pen) (P).

Now draw some highlights. Draw an oval in color # c8e5f2.

Take the tool Rectangle (Rectangle). Draw them inside vector mask (vector mask) while holding the Shift key.

Take the tool Ellipse (Ellipse), hold down the Alt key and draw as shown in the image below.

Add another highlight with the tool Pen (Pen) (P).

Step 5: Draw a Girl
We use the same method to create this character. Create New group (New Group). Rename it to “Girl”. Draw the next shape.

Duplicate (Duplicate) layer by pressing Ctrl + J. Resize a bit and set the color to # d6dd55.

Create your eyes.

Create a smile just like we did before. Draw an oval and select an option. Subtract the figure area (Subtract from shape area) in the settings panel. Draw inside Vector mask (Vector mask) to cut.

Draw a nose with the tool Ellipse (Ellipse).

Draw the rest of the details according to the image below.

Step 6: Creating a Flower
Start by creating a group called “Flower”. Take our best friend – tool Ellipse (Ellipse), set the color to # 000000 and draw a circle. Create another circle above it.

Apply Gradient (Gradient) to this circle. Click on the Fx icon at the bottom of the layers palette and select Gradient overlap (Gradient Overlay). Apply the settings listed below.

The result of the application.

Now start creating the eyes and other details of the character’s face.

Then draw the petals. We need to create one petal, and then we can Duplicate (Duplicate) and To turn (Rotate).

We created one petal. We now turn to the tricky part, we duplicate the petal several times and place it around the “face” of the flower. But this action will create many additional layers. We can avoid additional layers by drawing on Vector mask (Vector Mask). Just as we did before. Just click on the thumbnail Vector mask (Vector Mask) petal, this action will highlight the outline. Now press Ctrl + C to copy the existing contour and Ctrl + V to paste it. The contour will be inserted in the same place where we copied it. Press Ctrl + T to transform it, set the center point somewhere in the middle of the flower’s face. Hold the corner of the bounding box and turn the petal.

Draw a stroke around the flower with the tool Pen (Pen) (P).

Add some details with the tool Pen (Pen) (P).

Using tool Pen (Pen) (P) Draw a stem. Place it under the other layers of the group. Follow the steps in the image below.

Step 7: Creating a Bee
Create a new group and name it “Bee” (Bee). Draw a shape as shown below. Set the color to # efc035.

Draw the head with the tool Ellipse (Ellipse). Add a few strips to the body of the bee. Draw them with the tool Pen (Pen) (P).

Attach the strips to the bee’s body. Select a layer and press Ctrl + Alt + G or, while holding Alt, click on the layer border in the layers palette.

Adding details.

Add strokes to our character.

Step 8: Background
At the moment, all the characters are ready. Next we will create a heavenly background. Create New layer (New Layer) and place it at the very bottom of the layers palette. Create Gradient (Gradient) with colors # a7d0f5, #ffffff.

Step 9: Mountains
Create New group (New Group), called “Mountains”. Place it above the “Sun” group. Draw mountains with the tool Pen (Pen) (P). Make sure it is enabled in mode. Layer layer (Shape Layer).

Use the tool Pen (Pen) (P) to draw the outlines.

Draw some shadows, align them with the mountains below.

Add snow on the tops of the mountains.

Step 10: Earth
Create two groups above the “Mountains” group. Rename them to “Above ground” (Ground above), “Below Ground” (Ground below). Now draw these shapes in the “Above ground” group.

Draw another earth shape in the “Below Ground” group.

Apply a gradient to the ground. Use the following values.

Add a stroke using the tool Pen (Pen) (P).

Step 11: Drawing Plants
Create New group (Create New Group), called “Plants” (Plants) and place it above the layers with the ground. Let’s start by creating cacti. Follow the directions.

Draw the other side.

Ctrl + click on Vector mask (Vector Mask). Squeeze (Contract) selection by 10 pixels. Go to menu Allotment (Select) – Modification (Modify) – Compress (Contract). Create New layer (New Layer) and Fill up (Fill) Highlighting # 162116.

Create a brush. Take the tool Pen (Pen) (P), start with one simple curve, then create another one by drawing on Vector mask (Vector Mask).

Step 12: Create another plant
Draw another plant. Create New group (Create New Group), called “Bushy Plant” (Shrub). Choose a tool Pen (Pen) (P) and draw the outline of the plant. Place the group between the two groups with the ground.

Add a stroke. Duplicate (Duplicate) shape and change color to # 0c0e0d. Place it under the bottom layer.

Make some color adjustments for the plant, create New layer (New Layer) above the plant figure, take a large soft brush, select a bright green color and add a little color.

Make a Clipping mask (Create clipping mask) for this layer, change its blending mode to Glow (Luminosity).

Draw the outline of the leaves.

Step 13: Drawing the Clouds
Creating clouds is pretty simple. Start by creating a single shape and drawing inside Vector mask (Vector Mask) while holding down the Shift key. Once the cloud is complete, select the outlines with the tool. Outline selection (Path Selection), copy and paste them to create multiple copies. Resize a little using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + T. Place this layer above the “Sky” layer.

Step 14. Look at the layers palette and note in which order it is.
