From translator: Friends, unfortunately, links to illustrations with screenshots for this lesson were inactive, so I decided to restore them on my own, as the lesson was completed and translated. It is for this reason that the illustrations in the screenshots do not slightly coincide with the final illustration of the author of the lesson, but I hope they will help you visually present the stages of this lesson and understand them. If you have questions, ask them in the comments to the lesson. I wish you success and good mood!
Open Photoshop and create a new document (Ctrl + N) 800×600 in size. Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N) and select the tool Gradient (Gradient) (G), it must be selected in mode Radial (Radial) Of course, you can use any colors you want, for this tutorial I used # FFF3B9 and # FFFCE7.
Choosing a tool Text (Text) and write the word Foro (I used the Alba font and the color # 6FBCD9). Duplicate this layer (Ctrl + J) and rasterize the duplicate (Layer – Rasterize – Text / Font (Layer – Rasterize – Type /Text)). Now you need to hide the visible layer (click on the eye icon, which is next to the layer thumbnail) with the original text.
Create a new group (click on the icon in the form of a folder located at the bottom of the layers palette and place the rasterized layer in it).
Now double click on the layer next to its name to bring up the window Layer style (Layer Style) and select the option Stamping (Bevel and Emboss) (we will leave all parameters unchanged, we will change only the size (size) at 4px and color Shadow mode (Shadow mode) at # 5E679E – it depends on the color of the text you are using).
Duplicate this layer and press Ctrl + T (in this case, to offset). Hold down the Shift key and double-click the down arrow, then press Enter.
Now that we have moved the text and applied the transformation, hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys simultaneously and click the right arrow five times. As you can see, this technique gave us an effect that resembles 3D.
To give it a bit of realism, you need to duplicate the group (right click and select Duplicate group (Duplicate Group), and then at the top of the layers palette click on the arrow to the right and select Merge group (Merge Group)), then select tool Dimmer (Burn) (O): with exposure (exposure) 20% and range (range)mid tones (midtones) and walk around the top of the text for a bit more depth.
At the end, repeat these steps for the second word: Beta.
We begin to decorate our work. Create a new group under two texts and rename it (double click on the name) to “Clouds 1”. Create a layer in it.
How to create our cloud? Easy: pick a tool Oval selection (Elliptical Marquee)(M) and with the Shift key pressed, draw circles with which to reproduce the shape of a cloud. Holding down the Shift key superimposes the selections on each other, which allows you to create various desired shapes.
Staying on the layer, apply to the shape. Stroke (Stroke)
Note Right click inside the selection.
(color # 50A5C5 is the same as the text, and width (width) 5px position (location) – outside (outside)).
Note Fill the selection with white (to do this, press D, to reset the colors to black and white, note that the white color is set as the background color, and then press the key combination Ctrl +Backspace to fill the selection with white), and then deselect Ctrl +D.
Now we need to create a couple more clouds (duplicate the cloud we made and place it as you wish). To make them more realistic, add shadows to the three clouds that we created. To do this, select the cloud layer and, holding down the Ctrl key, click on the icon for creating a new layer (this is done so that the new layer is created under the selected cloud layer). Then, staying on the new layer, hold down the key Ctrl and click on the icon of the layer above the new layer, this action will load the selection of the cloud. Fill the selection with black. Deselect Ctrl +D. Now go to menu Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur) and set the value to 9px. Decrease opacity (opacity) layer up to 60% (Note. I recommend setting the opacity to 40%, so the shadow will be softer). Repeat this action for each cloud you created.
To complete this step, you need to duplicate the group and place a copy in another part of the canvas. It can optionally be reflected horizontally. (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontal (Edit-Transform-Flip Horizontal)).
Now create a small rainbow. Which will be created in a group located under the groups with clouds. To do this, create a new group and a new layer in it. Choose a tool Rectangle selection (Rectangular Marquee) and apply it as shown in the image below. Fill it with any color.
Duplicate the layer containing the rectangle as many times as you like (to replace their color and create our rainbow arch). Each time after duplication we create a selection of a rectangle and change its color, and then press Ctrl + T to move it.
Finally, duplicate the group (and make the group with the original invisible) and press the key combination Ctrl + E. After that go to the menu Filter – Distortion – Polar coordinates (Filter-Distort-Polar Coordinates).
Using the Ctrl + T transformation, change the size and position of the rainbow and clouds so that they fit together, and erase the bottom of the circle (to make it a semicircle). Do not forget to place the group with a rainbow arch under the groups with clouds.
Use the Brightener tool to continue. (Dodge) and Dimmer (Burn), to give depth to the rainbow arch.
Draw a few stars. To do this, create a new group, take the tool Arbitrary shape (Custom Shape) (U) to select the shape of a star. Create a new layer and draw a frame in the form of a star (since this figure only draws the border). The color used for the border is # B60101, and the color for the fill is # F8A900.
Now create another new layer, choose the tool Pen (Pen) and look at the image below to figure out what shape to draw.
Fill this shape with some other darker color (# 940329). It should be clarified that this group should be located under the layers with the text Foro Beta.
Now duplicate this group to create other stars (only you need to change their colors).
After we placed the stars on the image, we added a bit of strip texture to them. Nothing else but white lines (always located above the layer with “tails” from the stars) with blending mode Soft light (Soft Light) and opacity (opacity) 41%.
We are done. Now we only need to add more decorative elements. Circles, lines, etc. All this remains at your discretion and, as we have already discussed above, the process remains the same (shading, gradients, etc.), it will be easy for you.
Now it remains for us to add the last details: to add shadows (in the same way as we did before) to all objects, apply a different texture to the background, make some adjustments … Simply put, work through every detail in order to improve the work. And voila!
