Draw a bag in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to draw a red shopping bag. In this lesson, you will learn about basic drawing techniques, such as creating shapes, shading, and adding shadows.

Final result

Step 1. Create a new document.

Step 2. Create a new layer, name it “the main part of the bag”. Next, select the tool Pen (Pen tool) to draw a shape, as in the screenshot below.

Step 3. Using tool Pen (Pen tool) create a selection like in the screenshot below and press Ctrl + J to duplicate this selection onto a new layer. Rename the new layer to “top of the bag”.

Step 4. Go back to the “main part of the bag” layer. Using tool Pen (Pen tool) create a selection like in the screenshot below and press Ctrl + J to duplicate this selection onto a new layer. Rename the new layer to “the front of the bag.”

Step 5. Choose a tool Dimmer (Burn tool (O), then, in the settings panel, set the values ​​as in the screenshot below.

Step 6. Apply the tool Dimmer (Burn tool) in places that are indicated in the screenshot below.

Step 7. Select Pen (Pen tool) to create a selection, as in the screenshot below.

Step 8. Select Dimmer (Burn tool (O), then, in the settings panel, set the values ​​as in the screenshot below.

Step 9. Apply the tool Dimmer (Burn tool) in places that are indicated in the screenshot below.

Step 10. Repeat Steps 7 to Step 9, your image should look like the screenshot below.

Step 11. Follow the instructions in the screenshots below.

Step 12. Using tool Dimmer (Burn tool), by setting the brush size from 80px to 120 px, create more details in the designated areas, as in the screenshot below.

Step 13. On the “upper part of the bag” layer, using the tool Pen (Pen tool), create a selection, as in the screenshot below. Next, press Ctrl + J to duplicate this selection on a new layer. Rename the new layer to “the inside of the bag” and fill it with white.

Step 14. Go back to the “top of the bag” layer. Apply Dimmer (Burn tool) by setting the brush size to about 80px to add more details.

Step 15. Follow the instructions in the screenshots to correct the details for the “top of the bag” layer.

Translator’s Note: to invert the selection without removing the selection, just click Shift +Ctrl +I and further, process the tool Dimmer (Burn tool).

Step 16. On the “inner bag” layer, using the tool Dimmer (Burn tool), setting the brush size to about 50px, add more details. This is what the image should look like.

Step 17. Create a selection as in the screenshot below and apply Dimmer (Burn tool) to add more details for the “top of the bag” and the “inside of the bag”.

Step 18. Create a new layer on top of the “front of the bag” layer, name this layer “anchorage” and draw 2 holes as in the screenshot below.

Step 19. Apply layer styles to this layer.

Step 20. Create a new layer on top of the “attachment” layer, name this layer “front handles”. Using tool Pen (Pen tool) draw a contour, as in the screenshot below.

Step 21 After you have drawn the outline, right-click the outline and select Outline the contour (Stroke Path), for the brush settings: the color is white, the brush is hard, the size of the brush is 8px.

Translator’s Note: when you apply the option Run a contour, in the window that appears, do not put a tick in the box “Simulate pressure”.

Step 22 Apply layer styles as in the screenshot below.

Step 23 Via Dimmer (Burn tool) add more details to the “front handles” layer.

Step 24 Create a new layer on top of the “front handles” layer, name this layer “black line”. Using the pen, draw the outline as in the screenshot below.

Step 25. Create a new document with dimensions of 5px x 5px and draw a diagonal, as in the screenshot below. Next, go to the menu Editing Define pattern (Edit> Define Pattern) and save, you can name the pattern at your discretion. Close this document and return to our main document.

Step 26. Create a new layer on top of the “front handles” layer, name this layer “frontal diagonal”. We go the menu Editing – Fill (Edit> Fill) and select the pattern we just saved.

Step 27. Press Ctrl + T to transform the image, as in the screenshot below.

Step 28. Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the “front handles” layer to create a selection. Press Ctrl + Shift + I to invert the selection, and then press Delete. Next, change the blending mode to Multiplication (Multiply) and reduce Opacity (Opacity) up to about 40%.

Step 29. Create a new layer, name it “the shadow of the front handles.” Using tool Pen (Pen tool) draw the outline as the screenshot below.

Step 30. Create a new layer on top of the “inner part of the bag” layer, name this layer “inner holes”. Draw 2 holes and apply layer styles to them as you would to an anchorage layer.

Step 31 Create a new layer on top of the “inner holes” layer, name this layer “inner handle”. Using tool Pen (Pen tool) draw a contour, as in the screenshot below.

Step 32 Apply layer styles.

Step 33 Create a new layer on top of the “inner handle” layer, name this layer “inner diagonal” and create an “inner diagonal” just like you created the “front diagonal”. But this time, reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 30%.

Step 34 Create a new “inner handle” below the layer, name this layer “inner handle shadow” and use the tool Pen (Pen tool) draw as in the screenshot.

Step 35 Create a new layer on top of all layers, name this layer “white line” and use the tool Pen (Pen tool) draw a contour, as in the screenshot below.

Step 36 Set the brush as in the screenshot below. Tool Pen (Pen tool) is still active, right-click on the created contour and select Outline the contour (Stroke Path) and set the brush. Next, reduce Opacity (Opacity) up to about 70%.

Step 37. Repeat Step 35 and Step 36 to create additional white lines.

Step 38 Create a new layer on top of the “main part of the bag” layer, name this layer “reflection”. Create a selection like in the screenshot below and fill the selection with red.

Step 39. Draw white lines with a tint of # e31d1d. Next, reduce Opacity (Opacity) layer “reflection” up to 25%.

Step 40. Create a selection, as in the screenshot below. Without removing the selection, press Shift + F6 to open the window Feather the selected area (Feather Selection) and install Shading radius (Feather Radius) 20px. Next, click Delete 2 times.

Step 41 Create a new layer on top of the “reflection” layer, name this layer “bag shadow” and follow the steps in the screenshots to create a shadow from the bag.
