In this tutorial, we will look at one more of the options for applying ‘Blending Styles’, with which you can give a volume to a drawn ring.
Step 1. Open a new document (Ctrl +N). (The size of the document does not matter.)
Take the tool “Ellipse“(U) , in mode Shape layer.
Stretch the oval shape. Then click Ctrl +T, to position the shape as in the screenshot.
(if you need to reduce, or increase the shape, in proportion to the center, hold down the Alt key and pull the corner of the frame, reducing or increasing its size.)
* The color of the shape is not so important, the main thing is that it is different from the main background. The author took this color: # B2B7BB*
Step 2. Now, in the “Ellipse“ put – Subtract the figure area (-) and draw another oval. Hold key Ctrl (+ – will change to a black arrow), click on the edge of this figure (a 4-square box should appear on the rim of the figure).
Click Ctrl +T and place the shape as in the screenshot.
* or use the tool “Outline selection“(A), to select the desired shape *
This is how the layers palette looks like at this stage:
Step 3. Duplicate the shape layer (Ctrl +J). Change the shape color to Black (# 000000). And swap these layers (on the layers palette).
Step 4. Being on a duplicate layer, the tool “Contour selection (A) , or just holding the key Ctrl, Click on the small oval of the ring, and lower it slightly. This will draw the inside of the ring.
* the color may not necessarily be black, you can also apply a Gradient Overlay to this layer *
The shape of the ring is drawn, it now remains only to apply the Layer Style to give volume to our ring.
Step 5. Go to the layers paletteFigure 1“.
Call the Layer Style window (right click on this layer and select –Overlay options, or just click on this layer twice).
In the Layer Style, set the following parameters:
Embossed, Contour tab:
Gradient Overlay, color from # C48C20 to #Ffffff
This is what should happen:
These settings are individual for each shape: based on the slope, the size of your shape, change some parameters.
That’s what happened with me, using these settings as an example, (slightly correcting them for your image).
Good luck in doing the lesson.
