Draw a string in Photoshop

In this lesson I will tell you how to draw a string (at the request of the forum participants toa lesson)

It is more convenient when drawing as a basis to use a photo or a pencil drawing of a knot in order not to get confused in the knot itself.

For training offer this photo. It is small, but the bundle is simple.

You can reduce the transparency of the layer – it will be more convenient to work.
Getting started. Pen (PenTool) will be our primary tool.
We begin to draw sections of the cord with the help of a pen (Pen).

We turn each plot into a stroke – the stroke of the contour button with a brush (Strokepathwithbrush) on the Outlines panel (Paths).
Each section is placed on a separate layer. I got six layers.
Brush setting (BrushTool): Colour #da0d08, the size (Size) –7px stiffness (Hardness) – 100% opacity (Opaticy) –100%

For each section of the node, on separate layers, apply:

Filter (Filter) – Texture (Texture) – Texturizer (Texturizer) – Sandstone (Sandstone).
With parameters: Scale (Scaling) – 70, Relief (Relief) – 13, Light (Light) – Bottom (Bottomom).

Weaken this effect.
Edit (Edit) – Weakening Texturizer (FadeTexturizer) –70% This step must be performed right away after applying the filter.

Layer Styles (LayerStyle) – Inner Shadow (InnerShadow):

That’s what happened.

Then you need to hide our layers with a knot and carefully look at the original – how the sections of the thread are arranged. In which places the thread goes down, in which it appears upward. And with the Eraser tool (EraserTool) erase unnecessary areas.
The shadow effect will move to the edges of the thread, which is what we need to give volume.

Here is the bundle ready!

Now draw a brush! So for training … suddenly come in handy … :)
Ellipse tool (ElipseTool), with the pressed button Layer form (Shapelayers) in the toolbar and draw a red oval. This will be the base of the brush.
Adjust the shape a bit with the Transform tools (Edit (Edit) – Transformation (Tramsform) – …).

For this layer, repeat the steps:
Filter (Filter) – Texture (Texture) – Texturizer (Texturizer) – Sandstone (Sandstone).
With parameters: Scale (Scaling) – 70, Relief (Relief) – 13, Light (Light) – Bottom (Bottomom).

Weaken this effect. Edit (Edit) – Weakening teksturator (FadeTexturizer) –70%

Layer Styles (LayerStyle)

Next, select the pen tool (PenTool) and paint the brush threads. Save the contours, they are still useful to us.
Double click on the working contour (in the Outlines panel (Paths) and it will remain under any name.

Brush setting (BrushTool): colors: # da0d08 -red # 6d0907 –dark red size (Size) – fivepx stiffness (Hardness) – 100% opacity (Opaticy) –100%
The resulting contours turn into a stroke – the Stroke button of the contour with a brush (Strokepathwithbrush) on the Outlines panel (Paths). Now we have red and dark red threads.
If you want more threads, you need to reduce the diameter of the brush.

Copy the layers, fill the entire space of the brush.
It is necessary to ensure that there are no empty spaces between the threads. If such are available – paint over!
Merge the layers with the brush threads (LayerMergeLayers).

Again, repeat the steps for the resulting layer:
Filter (Filter) – Texture (Texture) – Texturizer (Texturizer) – Sandstone (Sandstone).
With parameters: Scale (Scaling) – 70, Relief (Relief) – 13, Light (Light) – Bottom (Bottomom).
Weaken this effect. Edit (Edit) – Weakening teksturator (FadeTexturizer) –70%
Layer Styles (LayerStyle)

Add thinner threads for realism.
Make active the contours of the brush threads (which we saved) and add a stroke on the new layer – the button (Strokepathwithbrush) on the Outlines panel (Paths).
Brush setting (BrushTool): Colour #fd0802, the size(Size) – onepx stiffness (Hardness) –100% opacity (Opaticy) –100%
Copy layers, quantity as desired.

Again merge the layers with the brush threads.
Add a layer style (LayerStyle) Inner shadow (InnerShadow):

You can slightly “waving” the ends of the brush or add individual threads. All at your discretion! Copy the layers with a brush and transfer the copies to the second lace.
So it turned out we have a wonderful lace with tassels.

And this is another lace, but with coins. How to draw a coin you will find in this lesson of our site. Here I drew my coins.
You can change all settings at will and as you wish!

Good luck in your creative endeavors!
