Draw lipstick

In this lesson we will learn how to draw lipstick. That’s what we get.

Create a new document (Ctrl + N) 800px wide and 1000px high. Double-click on the original layer (background) to unlock and make it editable. Run the command Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options … (Layer – Layer Style – Blending Options …) and apply to it Gradient overlay (Gradient overlay). The settings are shown in the figure.

Create a new layer. Choose a tool Ellipse tool (Ellipse) and draw an ellipse. Rename the ellipse layer to “Ellipse 1”. Duplicate layer, select Free transform (free transform) and reduce the size of the ellipse. Rename the layer to “Ellipse 2”.
Now hold down SHIFT, press the up arrow on the keyboard 22 times, thereby moving the ellipse 220px up.

Choose a tool Pen tool (Pen) and connect the two ellipses together.

We got the shape of the bottom of the lipstick. Merge the “Figure 1” layers created using the tool. Pen tool (Feather) and “Ellipse 1” in a single layer. To do this, press Ctrl + click on the “Figure 1” and “Ellipse 1” layers on the layers panel and merge them using the command Layer> Merge Layers. Rename the layer to “Lower”. Move it under the “Ellipse 2” layer and add the following layer styles.

Gradient Overlay (Overlay gradient):

I decided that the texture of the bottom of the lipstick should be simple, so I chose a pattern called “Granite” from the set of “Artist Surfaces”.

Pattern overlay:

Select the “Ellipse 2” layer and apply the following settings.

Gradient Overlay (Overlay gradient):

Bevel and Emboss

You should have it.

Load the selection of the layer “Ellipse 2” (Ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail) and execute the command Select> Modify> Contract (Allocation – Modification – Compress …) with a value of 5px.

Create a new layer, rename it to the “Middle Part” and fill it.

Duplicate the current layer, then hold down SHIFT, press the up arrow on the keyboard 3 times by moving the layer 30px up. Choose a tool Pen tool (Pen) and connect the two ellipses together.

Merge the “Middle Part” layer and the layer with the current shape and rename it again to the “Middle Part”. Place the current layer “Middle Part” under the layer “Middle Part Copy”. Apply the following style settings to the “Middle Part” layer.

Select the middle copy layer and apply the following style settings.

You should have it.

Load the selection of the “middle part of the copy” layer (Ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail) and execute the command Select> Modify> Contract with the value 4px. Create a new layer, rename it to “Top” and fill.

Duplicate the “Top” layer and move the copy 150px up (holding the SHIFT, press the up arrow on the keyboard 15 times). Tool Pen tool (Pen) connect the two ellipse shapes.

Merge the “Top” layer and the layer with the current shape. Rename the new layer to “Top” and place the “Copy Top” under the layer. Apply the following style settings to the “Top” layer.

Gradient Overlay (Overlay gradient):

Select the “copy top” layer and apply the following style settings.

Gradient Overlay (Overlay gradient):

You should have this:

Load the selection of the middle copy layer (Ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail). Create a new layer, select any selection tool, for example Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection). RMB call the context menu and select Stroke… (Stroke …) at 3px.

Now add style Bevel and Emboss (Emboss) with the following settings.

It’s time to paint a lipstick. Choose a tool Pen tool (Pen) and create a shape like in the picture.

Rename the layer to “Lipstick”. Then again, using the tool Pen tool (Pen), draw the top of the lipstick on a new layer.

Rename the second layer to “Top”, then select the “Lipstick” layer and apply Gradient overlay (Overlay gradient) as shown.

Select the “Top” layer and fill with color # d62626.

I decided that lipstick will look more impressive if you add glitter to it.
Load the selection of the last two layers (Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the “Lipstick” layer and, without releasing the Ctrl key, Shift + click on the thumbnail of the “Top” layer).
Create a new layer and rename it to Glitter. Fill with white color. Change Blending mode (Layer blend mode) on the Layers panel (Layers) on and (Dissolve), Opacity (Transparency) about 15% -30%. Now we need to merge the layers. To do this, create a new layer and merge it with the Glitter layer by clicking Ctrl + E. Install Blending mode (Layer Blend Mode) on the Layers panel on Soft light (Soft light) and, if you wish, you can reduce the Opacity.

With lipstick finished.
Now we need to add highlights. To do this, select the tool Polygonal Lasso Tool(Polygonal Lasso) and create a selection as shown.

Create a new layer and fill it with white (#ffffff). Next, add layer mask and using the tool Linear gradient tool (Linear gradient), do as shown in the figure, reducing the Opacity (Transparency) to approximately 56%.

Using the tool Polygonal Lasso Tool (Polygonal Lasso), create a selection on the left side of the lipstick. Create a new layer and fill it with white. Blur a little layer Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur) with a value of 2px and reduce the Opacity to about 30%. At the end, add a layer mask to this layer and tool. Linear gradient tool (Linear gradient) do as shown below.

Duplicate the last layer created and execute the command Edit> Transform> Flip Horizontal (Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontally), then move the copy on the right side of the lipstick.

Using the tool Pen tool (Pen), create a shape like in the picture. Blur the shape with the command Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur) 2-3px. Reduce the Opacity to 56%.

Add another highlight in the middle of the lipstick using the same technique. Blur only a little filter. Gaussian blur (Blur according to Gauss) 0,6px.

Using the tool Pen tool (Pen), create a shape with white color as shown in the picture below, then set the opacity to 62%.

Create a new layer, then select the tool. Brush Tool (Brush) with 33px soft edges. Press the key Shift and draw a white line on the lipstick. Reduce the opacity to 63%, then Ctrl + click miniature layer “Top”. Check that the white line layer is active, then click on Delete. Thus, we will remove the unnecessary part.

Further Ctrl + click miniature layer “Top”. Create a new layer and fill the selection with the tool. Linear gradient tool (Linear gradient) white to transparent.

Select the “Top” layer again. Create a new layer, select any selection tool, for example Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection). RMB call the context menu and select Stroke… (Stroke …) 2px, white color. Then add layer mask and brush with soft edges of black color erase unnecessary places of lipstick as shown in the figure.

Lipstick is completely ready and you can stop at this if you want. But I also decided to draw a lid for her. Next, I’ll show you how to do this.

Create a new layer. Choose a tool Ellipse tool (Ellipse) and draw an ellipse with approximate dimensions like the top of the lipstick. Rename the layer to “Ellipse 1”. Duplicate it and increase the size of the copy with the tool. Free transform (Free transform). Move it as shown.

Rename the duplicated layer to “Ellipse 2”.
Choose a tool Pen tool (Pen) and draw the body of the cap. Rename this layer to “Body.”

Merge the “Body” and “Ellipse 2” layers into one (Ctrl + E). For this layer, apply the following settings with the command Layer> Layer Style> Blending Options… (Layer – Layer Style – Blending Options …).

Gradient Overlay (Overlay gradient):

Pattern overlay (texture overlay)

Drag the “Ellipse 1” layer above the “Body” layer and add the following settings Layer Style (Layer style).

Gradient Overlay (Overlay gradient):

Pattern overlay (texture overlay)

You should have it.

Load the selection of the “Body” layer. Create a new layer, select any selection tool, for example Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection). Outline the selection with the parameters as in the screenshot.

Add a mask to this layer. Use a black brush with soft edges to erase unwanted lines as shown.

Select the “Ellipse 1” layer. Perform a stroke with the parameters as in the screenshot.

Using the tool Pen tool (Pen), create a shape like in the picture. Set the Opacity (Transparency) 50-60%. Then add a mask to this layer and a brush with soft edges of black color swipe over the top of the cap.

Tool again Pen tool (Pen) Create a white line like the image below. Blur some filter. Gaussian blur (Blur according to Gauss) 6,6px.

Set the Opacity (Transparency) to 65%, then by instrument Pen tool (Pen) create a shape like in the picture. Blur filter Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur) 0.9px and set the Opacity (Transparency) to 48%.

Use the same method to add flare on the other side of the lid.

Using the tool again Pen tool (Feather), create the last highlight. Add a mask to this layer and fill it with the tool. Linear gradient (Linear gradient) white to black. Set the layer opacity to about 75%.

Create a reflection. To do this, select all layers of lipstick. After click Ctrl + G. Duplicate new group (right click on layer) – Duplicate group (Duplicate group). Then merge a copy of the group (Ctrl + E). Flip up a layer of lipstick using the command Edit> Transform> Flip Vertical (Edit – Transform – Flip Vertically) and place as shown in the figure.

Open the original group (group 1), find the “Lower Part” layer and load the selection (Ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail). Make sure that the layer that you reflected vertically is active. Click Delete. At 1px, move the reflection figure down using the down arrow on the keyboard.

Add a layer mask and fill the instrument Linear gradient (Linear gradient), after set the Opacity (Transparency) 40-50%.

Now do the same with the cap. Place all the lid layers in one group. Make a copy of the group. Then combine it (Ctrl + E). Using Free transform (Free transform), flip vertically, as shown.

Add a layer mask and pour gradient, then set the opacity to 60%.

At the end you can add a little star to the lipstick.
Here we are done.
