Futuristic bike in Photoshop

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create a futuristic bike using basic Photoshop tools. Let’s start!

Step 1: new document
Open Photoshop and create a new document (CTRL + N). We use the following parameters:

Resolution 72dpi
RGB color mode
Size 500×310 px

Step 2: Create a background
Fill the document with black # 000000, then create a selection using Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection) (M), like mine. On a new layer (CTRL + SHIFT + N) with a brush (B) of a large diameter, draw inside the selection.
Color classification: # 546c79

Duplicate layer (CTRL + J), flip horizontally Edit – Transform – Flip Horizontal (Editing – Transformation – Flip Horizontally) and position it as in the screenshot below. After that we decrease opacity (opacity) layer up to 50%.

Step 3: We start to create a bicycle
Using Pen tool(Feather) (P), create the basic base of the bike and fill it with gray color (# dbdcd6). After that we will give it volume using selection tools and dimming / lightening tools.

Step 4: Work with details: Light and shadows
We start to add light areas and shadows, selecting the necessary part with the selection tool and applying Burn tool(Dimmer) (O) for the shadows and Dodge tool(Brightener) (O) for highlights. In this step we will add only highlights.

Step 5: Create bike parts
Delete the part shown below by selecting it and pressing the key Delete, then create a new selection using Pen tool(Feather) (P) with a radius feather (feather) about 0.3 pixels for best results.

In the created selection we apply Burn tool (Dimmer) (O) to add some shadow.

Step 6: Pedals
In this step we will create the basic shape of the pedals. Take Pen tool(Feather) (P) and start drawing (color # cdcec9). Select the area with Pen tool(Feather) (P) and apply Image – Adjustment – Brightness / Contrast (Image – Correction – Brightness / Contrast) with the parameters as in the screenshot below.
We use the same technique to create the pedal itself.

Step 7: Small parts
Now we add small details: reflections, etc.

Step 8: Rear wheel
Now we will start creating the wheel. To begin, draw a circle with Ellipse tool (Ellipse) (u) or Pen tool (Feather) (P) and remove the center. We use Dodge(Clarifier) or Burn (Dimmer) (O) to give bulk. After that, experimenting with thin lines to add highlights and shadows.

Step 9: Glare on the rim
Select a part of the wheel rim, as shown below, using Elliptical Marquee Tool(Oval selection) (M), then in the selected area we add light using Dodge tool(Clarifier) (O).

Step 10: Creating a tire
We start by creating a rounded shape of dark gray around the wheel. I used # 121011. Experimenting with highlights and shadows to add volume and realism.

Now we will add some highlights on the wheel. Take Elliptical marquee Tool (Oval selection) (M) and draw a black line with a thickness of 1 px, then another gray color.

Step 11: Spokes
How are we going to make knitting needles? Very simple. Take Pen tool (Pen) (P) and draw gray lines with a thickness of 1 px, as in my screenshot. Then take Dodge/ Burn tool(Brightener / Dimmer) (O) and add highlights and shadows on the spokes to make them realistic. When finished with the upper spokes of the wheel, we duplicate them (CTRL + J), reflect them vertically and position them as shown below.

Step 12: Brake disk
To create a brake disc, we will use Ellipse tool (Ellipse) (U) and light brown color (# 9c9075). After creating the circle, delete the central part using the selection tool and the Delete key.

Step 13: Effects on the brake disc
Move on Filter – Noise – Add Noise (Filter – Noise – Add noise) and set the parameters as shown below. To make the disc realistic, we need to add some shadows and highlights with tools. Dodge/ Burn Tool (Clarifier / Dimmer) (O).

Step 14: Seat mount
Create a basic form of mounting the seat, use a dark brown color (# 161510). Then go Filter – Noise – Add Noise (Filter – Noise – Add Noise), use Amount (Quantity) 0.5% for better effect. Add highlights and shadows.

Step 15: Seat
Create the basic shape of the seat using Pen tool (Feather) (P) and dark (almost black) color. I used # 010103. Then add the light at the top using Dodge tool (Clarifier) (O).

Step 16. Add more details on the seat mount.

Step 17: Steering wheel
Create a contour with Pen tool(Feather) (P), then fill it with a dark gray color (# 0f0f0d). Experiment with shadows and highlights to get a similar result.

Step 19. Using Pen tool(Feather) (P), add subtle glare on the steering wheel.

Step 20: Fork
Create a contour with Pen tool(Feather) (P) and fill it with a dark brown color. I used # 201f1a.

Step 21: Effects on the plug
Add noise and use Dodge/ Burn Tool (Brightener / Dimmer) (O) to make it realistic.

Step 22: Front wheel
Duplicate (CTRL + J) the layers with the rear wheel and place them under the fork. After that, create a part that holds the wheel on the fork.

Step 23: Compass
Now we will draw a compass! Create a contour with Pen tool(Feather) (P) and fill it with red, add shadows and highlights, using Dodge/ Burn Tool (Brightener / Dimmer) (O) and our bike is ready to ride.

Step 24: More details
You can add more details on the bike, such as lettering. You can also create a reflection like mine.
