Little apple

Hello, dear visitors of https://photobecket.com site!
In this lesson we will comprehend the technique of drawing an apple.

Little apple

Step 1. Create a new document with the settings as in the figure below.

Little apple

Step 2. Create a new layer and name it. Apple. Choosing a tool Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and create a selection area as shown. Now choose the tool GradientLittle apple(Gradient Tool), the fill method is set to Radial (Radial). The main color is set # 88cc33, and the background color is # 005522. Fill the selection, as shown in the figure.

Little apple

Step 3. Add a layer style Inner shadow (Inner Shadow) with these settings: Blend Mode (Blend Mode) Multiply (Multiply), Opacity: 75%, Angle set -90 degrees, Distance (45), and Size (Size) set 80 pixels.

Little apple

Step 4. Create a new layer and name it “Texture“Hold the key Ctrl and click on the layer “Apple“to load the selection if you have canceled it. Use the colors from step 1, go to Filter> Rendering> Clouds (Filter> Render> Clouds). Now go Filter> Distortion> Spherization (Filter> Distort> Spherize), set the Degree (Amount) to 100% and the Mode (Mode) to Normal (Normal). This will give our texture a spherical view. Blending Mode (layer mode) set Soft light (Soft Light). Now our apple has acquired a texture.

Little apple

Step 5. Create a new layer and name it “Dots.”Choosing a tool BrushLittle apple(Brush Tool) and set the main color #ccdd99. The diameter of the brush (Master Diameter) set 5 and Hardness (Hardness) 100. Draw a few points.
Set the Master Diameter to 3 pixels and draw more points. Ctrl-cry by layer “Apple“to highlight its contents.

Move on Filter> Blur> Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur), set the Angle to 90 degrees and the Distance 3 pixels. Now go Filter> Distortion> Spherization (Filter> Distort> Spherize), Set the degree (Amount) to 100, Mode (Mode) – Normal (Normal), and apply it. Blend Mode (Blending Mode) change to Overlap (Overlay), and Opacity is reduced to 50%. Push Ctrl + D to remove the selection.

Little apple

Step 6. Create a new layer and name it “Dent.”Tool Oval selectionLittle apple(Elliptical Marquee Tool) create a selection as shown in the figure below, fill it with white color and delete the selection (Ctrl + D).

Create another layer and name it “DentShadow.”Create a smaller selection, as shown in the image, and fill it with black.
Alt-cry along the line between the “Dent Shadow” and “Dent” layers in the layers palette. Remove selection Ctrl + D. This will make the “Dent” layer a clipping mask for the “Dent Shadow” layer. Now for the “Dent” layer, set the blending mode to Multiplication (Multiply).

Go back to the layer “DentShadow”And apply a filter to it Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur) with radius 17 pixels. Opacity of the layer is set to 75%. You can change the radius depending on your document, it will help to make the top line less noticeable.

Step 7. Now add a bulge. Create a new layer and name it “Highlight one.”Tool Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) create a selection as shown in the image below and fill it with white. Then create another larger oval selection and press Delete, to clear the selection. Remove selection and proceed. Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur). Radius (Radius) set 10 pixels.

Little apple

Step 8. Create a new layer, call it “Highlight 2.”Choosing a tool Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and create a selection as shown. Create another selection and click Delete. Then erase the remaining bottom. Go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), Radius (Radius) set 8 pixels.

Little apple

Step 9. Now create another layer under the layer called “Highlight 1” and call it “Black.”As the name implies, we fill it with black. Select the layers Black,””Highlight 1, andHighlight 2 “ and merge them with the team Ctrl + E. Go to Filter> Strokes> Spraying (Filter> Brush Strokes> Spatter). The Spray Radius is set to 6, and the Smoothness is set to 14.

Ctrl+cry On the “Apple” layer to load the selected area, and go Selection> Invert (Select> Inverse) To invert the selection, click Delete and clear the selection. Blend mode change layer on Lightening (Screen). Remove selection.

Little apple

Step 10. Create a new layer above the Dots layer and name it.Red.”Choosing a tool Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and create a selection, as in the image below, and fill it with color #ffbe00. Ctrl+click by layer “Apple“to load the selection. Go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) and set a radius of 50 pixels. Blend mode change to Color tone (Hue). Remove selection (Ctrl + D).

Little apple

Step 11. Create a new layer under the layer “Red”, call it “Yellow.”Choosing Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and create a selection as shown in the figure, fill it with color #fff444. Ctrl-cry by layer “Apple“to load the selection. Go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), the radius is also set to 50 pixels. Blend mode set on Hard Light (Hard Light) and Opacity – 75%. Remove selection.

Little apple

Step 12. Create a new layer and name it “Reflection.”Choosing a tool Rectangular area Little apple (Rectangular Marquee Tool) and create a selection as in the image below, fill it with white. We will make a reflection of the window from this rectangle. Create two rectangular areas like in the image below and clear them.

Little apple

Step 13. Go to the layers palette and add Layer mask (Layer Mask) to the layer “Reflection” by pressing the button Little apple “Add layer mask”. Choosing a tool GradientLittle apple(Gradient Tool). Fill the layer mask with a gradient as shown in the image below.
Now we have the layer Mask active, click on the thumbnail of the “Reflection” layer to make the layer itself active.

Now go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), set a radius of 8 pixels. Move on Editing> Transformation> Warp (Edit> Transform> Warp), Warp Arch (Arc) and set the Bend (Bend) to -20%.

Little apple

Step 14. Create a new layer called “Backlight.” Ctrl-cry on the layer “Apple” and fill the selected area with white color. Check that your selection tool is active, move the selection about 10 pixels to the left using the Left Arrow key on your keyboard, press Delete, to clear the selected area.

Ctrl-cry on the layer “Apple” to create a selected area, go Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), set the radius of 7 pixels. Push Ctrl + D, to deselect. Choosing a tool Eraser Little apple (Eraser Tool), Diameter (Master Diameter) set 270 pixels, and Hardness (0%). Erase the bottom of the glow as shown.

Little apple

Step 15. Create a new layer, call it “Stalk“. Choose the tool PenLittle apple (Pen Tool), and Contours (Paths) on the options panel. We draw a stalk for our apple. Ok, pick a tool Brush Little apple (Brush Tool) and open Brushes Panel (Brushes Palette). Select Shape Dynamics, Dynamic Control for Size Swing – Transition (Fade). Set Set the number of steps to reduce the brush – 70 And the minimum diameter (Minimum Brush Diameter) – 20%. Choose a regular brush. With a diameter of 14 pixels and Hardness – 100%. Set the Foreground Color to # 884411.

Go to the Outlines Palette (Paths Palette), open the palette menu (click on the triangle in the upper right corner of the palette) and select there Contour Stroke (Stroke Path), look in the list Brush (Brush) and click OK. Click on an empty place in the Paths palette to hide the Work Path. Ctrl-click on the “Dent” layer in the Layers Palette to load the selection.

Select the Rectangular Selection tool. Little apple(Rectangular Marquee Tool), hold down the Shift key and add a part to the selection as shown in the figure. Move on Selection> Invert (Select> Inverse), click Delete to remove the extra parts of the stalk, remove the selection.

Circuit, which we created, preserved in the Outlines palette (Paths Palette) under the name Work Path. It will stay there until we create a new contour, which will become the Working contour. If you need to save the created contour, rename it with a double click. Now, when you will create a new contour, the old will not go anywhere. If you want the outline not to appear on your document, click on an empty spot in the Paths palette.

Little apple

Step 16. Create a new layer called “StalkHighlight“. Choose the tool Brush (Brush Tool) with a diameter of 5 pixels. Primary color (Foreground Color) – white. We do the same thing as in step 15 in paragraph 2.

Ctrl-cry by layer “Stalk“in the Layers Palette to load the selection. Go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur. The radius is set to 1 pixel and applied. We change the Opacity of the layer (Opacity) by 40%.

Select layer “Stalk“and apply to it Filter> Noise> Add Noise (Filter> Noise> Add Noise). The radius (Amount) is set to 3%, Distribution (Distribution) – Uniform, Monochrome. Remove selection (Ctrl + D).
Choosing a tool BlackoutLittle apple (Burn Tool), use a soft brush (I used a brush with a diameter of 65 pixels and a stiffness of 0%) and darken the base of the stalk.

Little apple

Step 17. Create a new layer under the “Stalk” layer and name it “StalkShadow.”Choosing a tool Rectangle selectionLittle apple(Rectangular Marquee Tool) and create a selection like in the image below. Fill it with black and remove the selection (Ctrl + D). Move on Editing> Transforming> Perspective (Edit> Transform> Perspective) and distort the layer, as shown in the figure below.

Move on Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), Radius (Radius) set 7 pixels and apply. Choosing a tool EraserLittle apple (Eraser Tool), use a soft brush, and erase the upper part of the shadow. Now, Ctrl-cry by layer “Dent“to load the selection. Select the tool Rectangle selectionLittle apple (Rectangular Marquee Tool), with the key held down Shift add an area to the selection. Move on Selection> Invert (Select> Inverse) (Ctrl + Shift + I) and press Delete, to clear the selected area. Remove selection (Ctrl + D) and lower Layer Opacity to 60%.

Little apple

Step 18. Now, before we merge all the layers, we have to do the final touches. OK, I filled the background color # 004400. Then I did some minor actions.

I changed opacitylayers: “Highlight” layer – 85%, “Yellow” – 35%, “Red” – 85%, “Dent Shadow” – 95%, “Backlight” – 60%, “Reflection” – 55%.

I applied style Inner glow (Inner Glow) to the “Apple” layer with the following settings: Mode (Blend Mode) – Multiply (Multiply), Opacity (Opacity) – 30%, Size (Size) – 20 pixels, and Color (Color) – # 003300.

Finally, I applied Style Outer Glow (Outer Glow) to the “Dots” layer with such settings: Mode (Blend Mode) – Multiply (Multiply), Opacity (Opacity) – 60%, Color (Color) – # 2b2b2b, and Size (Size) – 8 pixels.
Now select all the layers except the background, and go to Layers> New> Group of Layers (Layer> New> Group From Layers), and call it “Apple.”

Little apple

Step 19. Create a new layer under the layer group “Apple” and call it “Shadow.”Choosing a tool Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and create a selection, fill it with black color. Remove selection and proceed. Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), set a Radius of 40 pixels and apply.

Little apple

Step 20. Create a new layer above the “Background” layer and name it “Light.”Choosing a tool Oval selectionLittle apple (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and create a selection like in the image below, fill it with color # 338833. Ctrl + D, to remove the selection, now go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur), and apply it with a radius of 75 pixels.

Little apple

Step 21 Now we have our finished apple, but it is too round. With the help of the deformation give it the desired shape. Right-click on the “Apple” group to merge all the layers. Go to Edit> Transform> Warp (Edit> Transform> Warp) and give our apple the desired shape.

Little apple

Additionally
After the deformation may remain undesirable distortion at the edges, caused by the deformation. Get rid of them. Ctrl-click on the “Apple” layer, now go to Select> Modify> Feather (Select> Modify> Feather), and set the Radius to 1 pixel. Move on Selection> Invert (Select> Inverse) and click Delete. Repeat this action several times until the distortion disappears. We are done!

Little apple

But what apple did I get:

Little apple

I like red apples more than green ones.
Good luck and success in mastering Photoshop.
