Solar edge

The debut lesson from Elena Spinul “Solar edge”.

——————————————————————————-

Finally, winter is over and spring has come, the time of flowering and the awakening of life. I just want to go to the forest and lie on the grass … Let’s realize these dreams with the help of Photoshop and draw a sunny edge.
So, let’s begin!

Stage 1: Cooking background.

Create a new document size 1024×768 px. (I chose this one, because then this picture can be put on the desktop and make it a background to the photo).
Next, take the tool and fill it with blue. I took the color # с9f5fb. It will be the sky. By the way, a layer can also be given the same name by right-clicking on a layer in the layers palette and selecting the option LayerProperties (Layer options). In the dialog box, enter the new name and click OK. Happened? Perfectly! (We will give the name to each new layer, so as not to get confused).

Go ahead and “light up” the sun in the sky. Choose a pale yellow color, # fef3ae, soft round brush diameter 400px,softness 18-20%, we put a spot in the upper left (or in the right, as you prefer) the corner of our sky. I did this:

Stage 2: Draw the leaves.

The background is ready now you can start drawing the actual edge of the forest. So, with the help of a magic combination CTRL+SHIFT+N create a new layer and name it “LEAVES”. Now set the foreground and background color # 408428, we take a brush in the form of a leaflet from a standard set of brushes in size 125px and casually “throwing” the foliage at the top of the picture. Now add the foliage of light and shadow using the tools Blackout and Lightening and applying the same settings to them as the foliage. With this option Exposure must be equal 50%.

Lighten the foliage closer to the sun, and darken at the top right. As a result of these simple actions it turned out like this:

Stage 3: Add a tree trunk.

We painted the crown of a tree, and, as we know, there are no crowns without a trunk. Therefore we draw a trunk. As usual we create a new layer named “TRUNK” and put it under the layer “LEAVES”. Again, you can use magic keys to move. CTRl+[.
Then we take the tool and draw a rectangular selection on the right, slightly capturing the foliage. Thus, we create the impression of a trunk coming out from under the crown, as he, in fact, is supposed to.

Fill the selection with color # 6F5309. Now let’s “dress” our trunk in the bark. Set foreground color # 604808, a background # 463005. Next, apply the following filter to the trunk:
Filter>Render>Fibers (Filter – Rendering – Fibers) with the following settings:

Remove selection (CTRL+D).
Tools and on the one hand we lighten the trunk, and on the other – slightly dim.

Merging layers “TRUNK” and “LEAVES” in one layer called “TREE” (select the layer “LEAVES” and push (CTRL+E)), let’s duplicate it (CTRL+J) and give the name of the copy “WOOD_2”. Place our copy under the layer. “TREE”.

We make the top layer “TREE”, temporarily invisible by clicking on the “eye” next to the layer icon and using Free Transformation (FreeTransform)(CTRL+T) reduce “WOOD_2 and slightly move it up and to the left. You can finish the leaves above and to the right to hide the sharp layer boundaries. “Turn on” the tree in the foreground and look at the result. I did this:

To create the impression that a small tree is in the background of the picture, we slightly blur it with a filter. Blur>GaussianBlur with a value of about 0.5-0.7%. Thus, you can add as many trees to the edge as your imagination will tell you and the drawing area will allow.

Stage 4: Grass.

Now it’s time to sprout grass on our edge.
Create a new layer called “GRASS”, and place it between the layers “WOOD_2” and “tree”. Now take a blade of grass the size 80px

and setting the foreground color # 22A118, and for the background – # 10540B, start drawing grass. We draw from top to bottom, trying to ensure that the next row of grass overlaps the previous one. “We sow” our little grass-ant as thick as possible so as not to look through the background. So we draw without reaching the bottom edge of the picture.

Now add grass to the foreground. Create a new layer at the very top of the layers palette and name it “GRASS_2”. Then increase the brush size to 125px or more, and fill in the rest of the picture below.

Now darken it under the trees, as if the shadow of the crown falls. Take the tool BurnTool (Blackout) (O), we change the shape of it to the shape of a blade of grass 125px, and walk on the grass at the very bottom and at the trunk of the tree. Now take the tool DodgeTool (Lightening), change its shape to the shape of a blade of grass 80px.

Go to layer “GRASS” and lighten the necessary areas on our edge, and near the very trunk of a small tree we darken it with an appropriate tool. You can add another layer of grass between the layers. “SKY” and “TREE_2” but this is optional. That’s what happened with me:

I hope that you have done better :) It remains to “light up” the grass a little in the background just as we did with a small tree (see Step 3).

Step 5: Draw the flowers.

As you know, spring is the time of flowering, and therefore it is time to bloom and the flowers on our edge. Flowers can be added in any way convenient for you, either cut from photos or use a tool CustomShapeTool (S), in the arsenal of which there are flower-figures (Nature set):

I will describe the second method. So, create a new layer. “FLOWER” above the layer “GRASS”, assign foreground color white (#Ffffff). Take the tool , set this tool an option FillPixels, choose the shape of a flower and stretch it to the desired size.

If the flower turned out too big, then you can apply the Free Transformation (CTRL + T) and reduce to fit.

Now above the layer “FLOWER” create another layer (you can leave untitled). Change foreground color to # F7BB06 and instrument we draw in the center of the flower a small oval. This will be the middle of our flower. For convenience, you can increase the desired area tool Magnifier (Zoom) (Z).

Now we merge these two layers together. (CTRL + E) and duplicate as many times as we want to place flowers on the edge. The shape and size of the colors is adjustable using the same Free Transformation (CTRL + T). Flowers for the foreground are placed above the layer “GRASS_2”. Now we have to blur the flowers a little bit; the filter in the background is already familiar to us. GaussianBlur.

STEP 6: Rays of the sun.

Our sunny edge is almost ready. It remains to add the sun’s rays.
New layer “RAYS” put under the layer “TREE”. Take the tool Polygonal Lasso (PolygonalLassoTool) (L) and create something like this:

Now we apply a command to it. Select> Modify> Feather (Allocation – Modification – Feather) with a feathering radius 85px.
The selection has become like this:

Fill our selection with color # FEF3AE, change blending mode to LinerLightand lower the opacity of the layer (Opacity) before 87%.

And now, finally, the final touch to our picture.
Create a new layer above the layer. “RAYS”, fill it with black and add strong noise to it Filter> Noise> AddNoise (Filter – Noise – Add noise) with great value, 100-150%.

Now apply the last filter to this layer. Filter> Blur> RadialBlur (Filter – Blur – Radial Blur) with the following settings:

Change layer blending mode to SoftLight (Soft light)

The picture is ready !!!
