Source materials:

STEP 1. Create a new document (700X800px). Fill the document with a color tint # 17161d:

STEP 2. Now, create a new document (100X100px). Using tool Arbitrary shape (custom shapes tool), draw the figure of the peak suit ‘peaks’.

Then go Editing – Define a pattern (edit> define pattern). Name your new pattern п contour peaks ’.

Next, create a new document (1000X1000px). Create a new layer and fill the entire image with any color you like. Then, reduce Fill (FILL) of this layer to 0%, keeping Opacity (OPACITY) layer at 100%. Next, apply layer styles. Pattern overlay (pattern overlay), using the newly created п contour of the peaks ’pattern.

Apply the pattern and Run down (flatten) images:

Copy and paste the merged layer onto our original document. Name this layer ‘contour peaks 1 ‘.

Next, reduce the opacity of this layer to 27% and change the blending mode to Multiplication (multiply).

So let’s go Editing – Transformation – Deformation (edit> transform> warp) and with the help of the warp tool, we deform the peak suit pattern until it turns out, as in the screenshot below:

Then repeat the same technique, glue the pattern of the peak suit onto the second layer, and also deform this layer only in the opposite direction from the original layer with the peak pattern. The result will look a bit loaded at this stage, but ultimately, we will create an abstract background design.

STEP 3. Now, download the texture set Card background (see the source section for this lesson).

Move the texture to our document and position it in the upper right corner of the image.

Change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (overlay). Add to layer layer mask, select a large soft black brush and on a layer mask, use a brush to move around the edges to create a smooth transition with the main background.

Repeat the same technique, move the same texture again to the bottom right of the image. Only this time, together with changing the blending mode to overlap, leave the blending mode Normal (normal) and lower the layer opacity to about 10%. Also add a layer mask to this layer and brush down the edges of the texture to create a smooth transition:

STEP 4. Move the first image of the nebula to our document. Place it in the center of the image:

Reduce the opacity of this layer to 10% and also hide the edges of the nebula image on the layer mask:

STEP 5. Next, download a set of brushes Watercolor brushes on the link at the beginning of this lesson.

Create a new layer, name this layer ‘watercolor’. Draw a couple of watercolor strokes in the center of the image using a watercolor brush, brush color # 3f645a:

Now, reduce the opacity of this layer to about 10%:

Create a new layer, name this layer ‘watercolor 2 ‘. Select the second set of watercolor brushes and with the help of them, draw a few white watercolor strokes:

Change the blending mode of this layer to Overlap (overlay):

Duplicate layer ‘watercolor 2 ‘. Overlay mode leave the same Overlap (overlay), but lower the layer opacity to 60%. This should make the watercolor strokes more clearly and visibly:

STEP 6. Move the second image of the nebula to our document. Reduce the opacity of this layer to 10% and change the blending mode of this layer to Overlap (overlay). The nebula on this layer can barely be seen, but it helps to create the background and add details:

STEP 7. Create a new layer, name this layer ‘background highlights’. Using a very large soft brush (color: # fcfcee), draw some light highlights on top of your image:

Next, reduce the opacity of this layer to 50%.

Duplicate the layer ‘background flare’. Keep layer opacity the same, i.e. 50%, and change the blending mode to Overlap (overlay). This will help make background highlights more intense:

STEP 8. So, it’s time to add neon highlights to the background!

Create a new layer, name this layer ‘background neon highlights’. Using a large soft brush (color: # fd00ee), draw a few bright pink highlights:

Next, reduce the opacity of this layer to 15% and change the blending mode to Overlap (overlay). This will help us add a delicate color effect to our main background:

We continue to create background highlights with a series of additional layers with light highlights using neon-blue and neon-green color shades:

STEP 9. Now, create a new layer, name this layer ‘vignette’. Choose a large round black brush. Paint over the corners and edges of your document:

Reduce the opacity of this layer to 20% to make the vignette more delicate:

STEP 10. Cut out the image of the girl, the image can be downloaded from the link at the beginning of the lesson, and then move to our document:

Using tool Pen (pen tool) cut the lower part of the girl’s image, creating an elegant selection near the girl’s neck:

Let’s go Filter – Transform for smart – of filters (filters> convert for smart filters). Due to the smart filter, any correction will not damage the image when restoring the original image.

Next, go Filter – Sharpness – Contour Sharpness (filter> sharpen> unsharp mask) and apply the settings that are shown below to the image of the girl for easy contour sharpness:

Settings Contour sharpness (UnSharp Mask):

Effect (Amount): 31%
Radius (Radius): 1.0 px
Threshold(Threshold): 0 levels

Next, create a new adjustment layer. Color balance (Color Balance). Apply it as a clipping mask, so that the effect of the correction is applied only to the layer with the image of a girl, and not to the entire image.

Settings for the adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance):

Sveta (Highlights): -12 / +2 / -12
Mid tones (Midtones): -19 / -16 / +22
Shadows (Shadows): -11 / -5 / -1

STEP 11. Now, create a new layer, name this layer ‘shadows on the girl’s shoulders.

Press Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the layer with the girl in the layers palette. Thus, we will make the selection of the girl active. Standing on the created shadow layer, select a medium sized soft brush (color: # 130c16). Take a brush over the shoulders of the girl at the base of the image. Since our selection is active, it will be impossible to enter the brush outside the contour of the girl:

Next, reduce the opacity of the shadow layer on the shoulders to 25%.

STEP 12. Now, create a new layer, name this layer ‘lower part of the girl’.

Hold the Ctrl + key again and click on the thumbnail of the girl layer to make the selection of the girl active.

Then, in the layers palette, go to the created layer, without removing the selection, fill the selection with a color tint # 130c16.

Next, just shift the selection, which is still active, by about 8px with the cursor. Press the delete key, leaving the dark part of the selection at the bottom of the girl:

In the upper part of the girl you will notice small dark areas. Remove them, leaving only the dark area at the base of the girl:

Next, hold down Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the ‘shadow layer on the girl’s shoulders in the layers palette to highlight this area.

Activating this area, create a new layer ‘light bottom’. Using a white soft brush, go around the bottom line. We will give a sense of depth and contour relief.

So, reduce the opacity of this layer to 12% to make the relief more subtle:

STEP 13. Download the image of the crown, cut it and move it to our document. Turn and roughly place on the girl’s head:

Next, with the tool Lasso (lasso tool) cut the crown fur base. Then go Editing – Transformation – Puppet Warp (edit> transform> puppet warp). Using the tool puppet deformation, deform the lower part of the crown in such a way as if it really is on the girl’s head:

(If you have not installed the version of Photoshop CS5, which has a tool puppet warp (puppet warp tool), then you can use the tool deformation (warp tool) or tool Plastics (liquify tool).

Next, go Filter – Sharpness – Contour Sharpness (filter> sharpen> unsharp mask) and apply the settings that are shown below to the image with the crown, to slightly increase the sharpness:

Settings Contour sharpness (UnSharp Mask):

Effect (Amount): 90%
Radius (Radius): 1.0 px
Threshold (Threshold): 0 levels

Next, apply adjustment layers. Hue / Saturation (hue / saturation) and Levels (Level) and Color balance (color balance), apply adjustment layers as clipping masks:

Settings for the adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (hue / saturation):

Color tone (Hue): 0
Saturation (Saturation): -85
Brightness (Lightness): 0

Settings for the adjustment layer Levels (Level):

42 / 0.87 / 232

Settings for the adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance):

Sveta (Highlights): -19 / -4 / +6
Mid tones (Midtones): -13 / -9 / -4
Shadows (Shadows): -8 / +1 / +5

In conclusion, you need a little better to combine the crown with a girl. Create a new layer, name this layer ‘crown shadow’. Using a soft black brush, about 20% opacity, draw shadows in the lower and right parts of the crown. This will help create a more unified light source:

STEP 14. Cut one of the gems from the crown, glue it onto a new layer and place it on the girl’s ear. Thus, we will give a feeling of real decoration:

We need the silver part of the earring to really attract attention, so create a new layer, name this layer “brightening the earrings”. Choose a small soft white brush (50% opacity). And go brush on a silver earring. Then, change the blending mode to Overlap(overlay). This should help make our jewelry brighter and richer:

STEP 15. Next, we will apply the tool Arbitrary shape (custom shapes tool) to create a card suit shape – peaks to the right of the girl (body color: # 17161d):

Now, we will apply layer styles, options External glow (outer glow) and Internal glow (inner glow).

Settings for option External glow (Outer Glow):

Blend mode (Blend Mode): Overlap (Overlay)
Opacity (Opacity): 50%
Noise (Noise): 0%
Colour (Color): ffffff
Swipe (Spread): 0
The size (Size): 54px

Settings for option Internal glow (Inner Glow):

Blend mode (Blend Mode): Lightening (Screen)
Opacity(Opacity): 7%
Noise(Noise): 0%
Colour(Color): ffffff
Tightening(Choke): 0%
The size(Size): 16px

STEP 16. Below all the layers with the girl, draw a white circle. Reduce the opacity of this layer to 35%:

Next, duplicate the circle layer. Increase the opacity of this layer to 100%.

Next, select the circle and fill it. Radial gradient (radial gradient), set the color limits for the gradient from 5f4362 to 141123.

Now, we will apply layer styles, options Inner shadow (inner shadow) and External glow (outer glow).

Settings for option Inner shadow (Inner Shadow):

Blend mode (Blend Mode): Overlap (Overlay)
Colour (Color): ffffff
Opacity (Opacity): 120
Bias (Distance): 9px
Tightening (Choke): 0%
The size (Size): 24px

Settings for option External glow (Outer Glow):

Blend mode (Blend Mode): Overlap (Overlay)
Opacity (Opacity): 20%
Colour (Color): ffffff
Swipe (Spread): 0%
The size (Size): 35px

STEP 17. So, repeat Step 16, create a series of small circles below the main circle:

STEP 18. Next, with the tool Arbitrary shape (custom shape tool), create a card shape – peaks. Place this shape in the lower center of the image. Reduce the fill of this layer to 50%, keeping the layer opacity at 100%.

Now, we will apply layer styles, options External glow (outer glow) and Stroke (stroke).

Settings for option External glow (Outer Glow):

Blend mode (Blend Mode): Normal (Normal)
Opacity (Opacity): 50%
Colour (Color): ffffff
Swipe (Spread): 0%
The size (Size): 62%

Settings for option Stroke (Stroke):

The size (Size): 1px
Position (Position): Inside (Inside)
Blend mode (Blend Mode): Normal (Normal)
Opacity (Opacity): 70%
Colour(Color): ffffff

STEP 19. So, using the tool Pen (pen tool), create a series of contour lines right on top of the girl’s left edge.

Do not forget to set a 1px white brush in the settings, then right-click on the contour and select the option Create stroke contour(stroke path). By creating a stroke, we will create a distinct bright edge for the girl:

STEP 20. Create a new layer, name this layer “surface light”. Using a brush (color: # cd1fdd), draw a few light spots on the image.

Next, reduce the opacity of this layer to 8% and change the blending mode to Overlap (overlay):

STEP 21. Create a new layer, name this layer ‘bottom shape’. Using tool Pen (pen tool), create an abstract shape in the bottom left of the image.

Fill this shape with a radial gradient, gradient colors from # 93767c to # 342232.

Now, we will apply the layer styles to the layer with the abstract shape, the options Inner shadow(inner shadow) and Stroke(stroke).

Settings for option Internal glow (Inner Glow):

Blend mode (Blend Mode): Normal (Normal)
Opacity (Opacity): 75%
Colour (Color): 000000
Tightening (Choke): 0%
The size (Size): 65%

Settings for option Stroke (Stroke):

The size (Size): 1px
Position(Position): Inside(Inside)
Mode overlay(Blend Mode): Overlap(Overlay)
Opacity (Opacity): 100%
Colour (Color): ffffff

STEP 22. Next, repeat Step 21, create a blue abstract shape in the upper right part of the image. Apply the same layer styles that you applied to the first shape:

STEP 23. So, create a new layer, name this layer highlight ’.
Fill the layer with black, then go Filter – Rendering – Blick (filter> render> lens flare). Apply Lens type (lens type) 50-300mm, place a highlight approximately on the left edge of the girl’s face:

Next, change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening (screen), due to this, we will hide the dark fill and reduce the opacity of the layer to 30%.

STEP 24. Next, create a new layer, name this layer “bleaching / darkening”. Let’s go Editing – Fill (edit> fill) and fill the layer with 50% gray. Then, change the blending mode to Overlap (overlay). This mode will hide your fill with 50% gray, but will allow you to make light correction without harming your image.

Use a soft black brush, about 10% opacity to create shadows and a soft white brush to lighten.

In the screenshots below, you can see the ‘bleaching / darkening’ layer under normal blending mode and blending mode Overlap (overlay):

STEP 25. Finally, create a new adjustment layer. Curves (curves), do not use this adjustment layer as a clipping mask, because how we want the correction to be applied to the whole image. Apply the settings as in the screenshot below, and then reduce the opacity of the adjustment layer to 50% so that the effect is more subtle:

And we finished the lesson!

You can view the final result below. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and would love to hear your opinion on the technique of performance and the result.
