Features Photoshop allow you to edit photos and combine them into what we see in real life.
In this tutorial, we’ll create a small home corner from scratch using Photoshop. We will create a lamp, a bedside table, a photo frame, and several other elements using layer styles and filters. Let’s start!
Step 1. Before you start creating the scene itself, let’s take a look at the texture of the wood that we use for the floor. Create a new document 3000×3000 px.
Step 2. Start by applying the filter Filter – Noise – Add Noise (Filter – Noise – Add noise). Then Filter – Pixelate – Mosaic (Filter – Design – Mosaic). Next, apply a blur Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter – Blur – Blur in motion). For the best result we will correct a little Image – Adjustments – Levels (Image – Correction – Levels) and again apply the filter Motion blur (Motion blur).
Step 3. Now we have a great base for a future texture. Move on Image – Adjustments – Posterize (Image – Correction – Posterization).
Step 4. Create a new layer (SHIFT + CTRL + N) and fill it with brown. Set the foreground and foreground colors to two different shades of brown and apply Filter – Render – Fibers (Filter – Rendering – Fibers) with maximum parameters. Set the layer blending mode to Overlay (Overlap). This will add texture to the tree.
Step 5. Duplicate (CTRL + J) the base background layer and move it to the very top of the layers panel. Move on Filter – Stylize – Find Edges (Filter – Styling – Selection of edges). We use Levels (Levels) (CTRL + L) to increase the contrast of the lines, and again apply the filter Motion blur (Motion blur). Set the layer blending mode to Multiply (Multiplication). As you can see, the texture has become more interesting.
Step 6. We are finished with wood flooring. Merge all layers. Create a new document size 750×1000 px. Then we create a new group “Paul” and move the texture into it. Adjust slightly Levels (Levels) to make it brighter.
Step 7. Use transformation (CTRL + T) to deform the texture in perspective.
Step 8. Duplicate (CTRL + J) this layer and bleach it (CTRL + SHIFT + U). Apply Filter – Stylize – Emboss (Filter – Styling – Emboss) with parameters, as in the screenshot below. When finished, set the blending mode of this layer to Overlay (Overlap) and reduce Opacity (Opacity) up to 59%.
Step 9. On the new layer we use Gradient tool (Gradient) (G) to add a gradient, as shown below. Set the layer blending mode to Multiply (Multiplication) and Opacity (Opacity) at 41%. This will make the edges a bit darker.
Step 10. Create a new group “Wall” and use Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection) (M) to highlight the area for the wall. Fill it with yellow (# DEC181).
Step 11. To give texture to the wall, duplicate (CTRL + J) layer and apply Filter – Noise – Add Noise (Filter – Noise – Add Noise) with 145% parameter. Next, go Filter – Stylize – Emboss (Filter – Styling – Emboss). Set the layer blending mode to Overlay (Overlap).
Step 12. Create a new layer “Plinth”. We use Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection) (M) to select the bottom of the wall and fill it with a gradient.
Step 13. Duplicate (CTRL + J) the “Plinth” layer and transform (CTRL + T) a copy, as shown below.
Step 14. We now turn to the creation of the dresser. Create a new group “Chest”, and in it a new layer “Basis”. Via Pen tool ( Pen) (P) draw a basic base of any color.
Step 15. Cut out a part of the texture that we created at the beginning of the lesson and apply it to the dresser. You can use any other texture. For selection use Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection) (M), then copy (CTRL + C) the selected area and paste (CTRL + V) it on the working document.
Step 16. Apply a clipping mask to the cut texture (CTRL + ALT + G). Move it so that it completely covers the chest.
Step 17. Copy and paste another part of the texture. This time we create a black stroke around it with a width of 1 px and rotate it 90 degrees, as shown below.
Step 18. Cut out a square texture area and place it on the working paper. Call the layer with it “Door Basis”. Add Drop shadow (Shadow) and Outer glow (External glow) to create a shadow.
Step 19. Cut a small rectangular area of the texture and paste it onto the working document (highlighted in red below). Rotate it as shown below and use the clipping mask (CTRL + ALT + G).
Step 20. Apply Layer – Layer Style – Bevel Emboss (Layer – Layer Style – Chamfer and Emboss) to this layer.
Step 21 We continue to cut out small elements of the texture to fill the door, as shown below.
Step 22 Cut another texture area. Apply layer styles to it.
The chest should now look like this:
Step 23 Cut out the narrow part for the cover. This time use Eraser tool (Eraser) (E) to create rounded edges.
Step 24. For pens on the new “Pen” layer, create a small circle filled with color (# CBCDA5). Apply layer styles to it. Then duplicate the pen and move the copy to the box just above.
Step 25. We return to the dresser and with the help Dodge (Clarifier) and Burn (Dimmer) (O) add light and shadow.
Step 26. Create a new group “Lamp” and place it under the “Chest” group. Draw the basic shape of the lamp and fill it with the color # 6B5A3E.
Step 27. Next we will use Dodge (Clarifier) and Burn (Dimmer) (O) to add details. To make it easier, create a selection of the required areas.
We continue to add details, do not forget about the light source from the lamp.
Step 28. Add more intense shadows and highlights. At this stage, use a square brush and tool Blur tool (Blur).
Step 29. To give the lamp texture, create vertical lines. Then apply to them Edit – Transform – Warp (Editing – Transformation – Deformation) to transform them into a lamp shape.
Step 30. Apply Bevel and Emboss (Chamfer and Emboss).
Step 31 Create a new layer and merge it with the layer we just worked on. Apply a clipping mask to it (CTRL + ALT + G) and set the blending mode to Overlay (Overlap) and Opacity (Opacity) by 67%. Later we will return to the lamp and add more details.
Step 32 For the lampshade create two layers “Front” and “Rear”. Start drawing the front part. For the back take a darker shade.
Step 33 Duplicate (CTRL + J) these two layers and add a stroke. Decrease Fill (Fill) each layer to 0%. Adjust the size of the stroke on the side.
Step 34 Create a new layer above the original “Front” layer and apply a clipping mask to it (CTRL + ALT + G). Choose a yellow color and use a large soft brush to paint a spot at the top of the lampshade. Set the layer blending mode to Color dodge (Lightening basics) and Opacity (Opacity) at 86%. Repeat these steps for the side.
Step 35 On the new layer with clipping mask (CTRL + ALT + G) create a gradient fill from dark red to transparent to make the lower part of the lampshade darker.
Step 36 Create a new “Lower Lamp” layer and place it at the very bottom of the “Lamp” group. Draw a selection, fill it with white and create a stroke.
Step 37. Now let’s create the frame. Add a new group “Frame” and create a square, which we fill with color.
Apply layer styles to it.
Here is the result:
Step 38 Duplicate (CTRL + J) this layer and transform (CTRL + T) copy. Then right click on the layer and select Clear layer style (Clear layer style). After that, we apply new ones.
Step 39. Duplicate the layer and clear all layer styles except Inner shadow (Inner shadow). Adjust parameters a bit and decrease Fill (Fill) to 0%.
Step 40. Create a new layer and add a small square in the center of the frame. Apply layer styles to it. After that you can draw a leaf in a frame.
Step 41 Now we will work with the light from the lamp. Create a new group “Lighting” over the group “Wall”. We use Polygonal Lasso Tool (Polygonal Lasso) (L) to create a triangular selection. Fill it with white to transparent gradient and set Opacity (Opacity) layer at 58%. After that apply layer styles.
Step 42 Duplicate (CTRL + J) this layer twice and transform (CTRL + T) copies as shown below. Adjust Opacity (Opacity). When finished, duplicate (CTRL + J) all three layers and rotate them 180 degrees.
Step 43 Now we will create the shadow of the dresser. Create a new group “Shadow”. In it we add a new layer and draw a trapezoidal shape, as shown below. We use Blur tool (Blur) to blur the edges. I also added a more intense shadow under the dresser.
Step 44. The color of the dresser is too bright. To fix this, we merge the “Chest” group on a new layer and adjust Levels (Levels). We use Burn tool (Dimmer) (O) at the base of the dresser and at the top.
Step 45. With the creation of the scene we are done. The next part of the lesson we devote to setting up lighting. Create a new group “Night Lighting”. Add a few adjustment layers inside the group. As a result, the image should be almost black.
Step 46 Activate the group “Night lighting” and add to n her layer mask. Use selection tools, Brush tool (Brush) (B) and Blur tool (Blur) to remove areas of light. Using Brush tool (Brush) (B) with Hardness (Hardness) 0% and Opacity 20%, adjust the light to make it more realistic.
Step 47. On a new layer with a small brush (B) we add highlights at the edges of the frame, the upper part of the dresser and the lamp. In the same way you can add shadows in the corners.
Step 48 To add more light to the floor, create a new layer, fill it with a gradient from white to transparent and adjust the parameter Blend if (Apply if) and Opacity, as we did in Step 41.
You can add more details, like a vignette like mine.
