We pack a gift in Photoshop

What could be better than a gift made by yourself?

Materials for the lesson:

Step 1. Create a new document (Ctrl + N) size 800×800 px, unlock the layer – double-click on the layer, apply the layer style (click on the “Add a later style” icon at the bottom of the layers palette)).
Gradient overlay\ Gradient Overlay.

Step 2. Create a new layer (ALT + SHIFT + CTRL + N), fill it with any color and fill it with a gradient, settings below fill (Fill) 0% layer.

Step 3. Create a 3D box. The author of the lesson when creating a 3D box used Adobe Illustrator.

The finished Illustrator file with the 3D box can be downloaded here.

Copy our cube Ctrl + C, back in Photoshop and paste the cube on a new layer Ctrl + V, as a smart object, click Enter, name the layer “cube”.

Go to Illustrator, ungroup the cube (using the Selection tool, select the entire cube and press Shift + Ctrl + G).

Select each side and copy in Photoshop, place them above the cube, leave small spaces between the sides, the corners of the cube should be visible, name the layers “left”, “right”, “top”.

Translator’s Note: make a cube in Photoshop using 3D filter (if you do not know how to work with this filter, see the lesson)
Tool “Pen” (Pen Tool) in the contour mode, select each side, right-click and select “form a selection“And duplicate (Ctrl+J), we have a cube and three sides
Leave small gaps between the sides, the corners of the cube should be slightly visible (turn off the visibility of the layer with the cube and the arrow on the keyboard with the active tool “Move“(Move Tool) move layers, don’t forget to” turn on “layer with cube).

Another option to create a 3D box.

Step 4. Make the cube layer active and apply to the layer
Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay.

Step 5. Apply darker gradients to the sides of the box, to the left side:

To the right side:

Blur the edges of the faces: load the selection of the left side (Ctrl + click on the layer thumbnail), add a layer mask (click on the icon at the bottom of the layers palette) and apply Filter \ Blur \ Gauss Blur (Filter \ Blur \ Gaussian Blur), approximately 4.

Step 6. Insert an image with paper (you can find it here), name the layer “paper”.

Step 7. We need to remove the excess: Ctrl+Click on the thumbnail of the cube layer and, on the paper layer, add layer mask.

Change the blending mode (blending mode) for the layer to “Overlap“(Overlay) and opacity (Opacity) 60%.

Step 8. Duplicate the sides of the cube (Ctrl+J) and on the layers palette, place them above the paper layer (place them in the group), apply the following settings for the “right copy” layer, fill (Fill) for a layer 0%.

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Inner Shadow \ Inner Shadow:

Step 9. For the “left copy” layer the following settings fill (Fill) for a layer 0%.

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Inner Shadow \ Inner Shadow:

Step 10. For the “top copy” layer, fill (Fill) for a layer 0%.

Inner Shadow \ Inner Shadow:

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Step 11. To enhance the glossy effect, create a duplicate of the upper side, on the layers palette position at the very top, fill (Fill) for 0% layer and apply a white to transparent gradient.
Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Step 12. Create a new group, name it “pattern”. Find or create any pattern on a transparent background, create a new layer, fill with a pattern and using the command Editing \ Transformation \ Distortion (Edit \ Transform \ Distort) place on the upper side, cut off the excess (as in step 7).

Step 13. Apply the following settings to the pattern layer:

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Gloss \ Satin:

Step 14. Create a new layer and apply a pattern on the left side.

Gloss \ Satin:

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Step 15. For the right side:

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Gloss \ Satin:

Step 16. Now we will create the edge of the paper, create a new layer opacity (opacity) for layer 90% tool “Line” (Line Tool), in shape mode, thickness 2 px, draw a black line on the right side of the left side of the cube. Apply Filter \ Blur \ Gauss Blur (Filter \ Blur \ Gaussian Blur), 2 px, load the selection of the right side (Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the layer with the right side) and click Delete (remove the blur line on the right side).

Step 17. We draw a white line, thickness is 1 px, parallel to black on a new layer and change blending mode (Blending Mode) for layer on “Overlap” (Overlay).

Step 18. Create a new group, name the “angle”. On a new layer (name “corner”), with the “Pen (Pen Tool) in the shape mode, draw a shape, as shown below.

Fill (Fill) for a layer 0%

Apply settings for layer styles.
Embossing \ Bevel and Emboss:

Step nineteen. To create a shadow, load the selection of the “corner” layer and on the new layer fill with black color, deselect it (Ctrl+D), place this layer on the layers palette under the “corner” layer with the tool “Moving (Move Tool) move the layer a little lower. Apply Filter \ Blur \ Gauss Blur (Filter \ Blur \ Gaussian Blur), 2 px, load the selection of the “corner” layer and click Delete, deselect (Ctrl+D), install opacityl (opacity) for a layer 70% and change the blending mode (Blending Mode) to “Multiplication»(Multiplay).

Step 20. On a new layer, name the “card” using the “Rounded Rectangle (Rounded Rectangle Tool) draw a small card.

Apply the following layer styles
Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Embossing \ Bevel and Emboss:

Step 21. Write any word with the tool “Text (Type Tool), apply the Gradient Overlay style, merge the text layer and the “card” layer (with the Shift key pressed, select them), Ctrl + T, right-click, select Distort, transform

Apply the following layer styles to the “card” layer.
Shadow \ Drop Shadow:

Pattern Overlap \ Pattern Overlay:

Step 22. Create a new group, name the “tapes”. On a new layer using the “Pen” (Pen Tool) in shape mode draw a ribbon as shown below.

Fill (Fill) 0%, apply the following layer styles.

Embossing \ Bevel and Emboss:

Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Step 23. Load the selection layer with the ribbon (Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the layer with the ribbon) and on the new layer Editing \ Run Stroke (Edit \ Stroke), width 7, white, outside, erase the excess at the edges

Fill (Fill) 0%, apply the following layer styles
Gradient Overlay \ Gradient Overlay:

Apply the Stroke \ Stroke style:

Step 24 Add a shadow (as in step 19)

Step 25. On the new layer, draw a ribbon across the box (apply the same principles as for the ribbon along, just change the direction for the gradient), and don’t forget the shadow. Similarly draw a bow.

Play with the layer style settings. Gradient Overlay

Step 26. Draw a node. Load the selection of layers with bows and on the new layer fill with any color tool “Eraser” (Erase), with soft edges, erase the part in the center, fill (Fill) 0%,

apply the following layer styles
Color Overlay \ ColorOverlay

Step 27. To create a reflection, merge all layers except the background. Select the left and right sides, copy to new layers and use the transform command to position as shown below.

Step 28. Add a layer mask to the sides and fill with a gradient from black to white as shown below

Adjust the reflection using a soft translucent brush and a layer mask

Step 29. On a new layer, paint with a black brush as shown below, blur it. Filter \ Blur \ Gauss Blur (Filter \ Blur \ Gaussian Blur), change the blending mode to “Overlap“(Overlay)

Here is our box!

Good luck!
