Add to Photoshop the effect of aura on the photo

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create the effect of a snowy atmosphere and aura. You will also learn how to perform color correction, as well as how to create a motion effect using a filter. Radial blur (Radial Blur).

To complete the lesson you will need:

  1. Couple in love
  2. Snow Texture
  3. Winter forest

Final result

Step 1

First add the highlighted image of the couple in love to the main image.

In this tutorial, I used the image of a loving couple. There are several ways to select objects, but personally I prefer to use the tool Pen (pen tool).

Tip: When picking out your legs, try to create the feeling that they have sunk a little in the snow, rather than a pair of people just stand on top of the snow surface, so the picture will look more natural.

Step 2

Next, we will add a shadow to the couple in love. Duplicate a layer with a couple in love, and then to duplicate the layer, add a layer style Color overlay (Color Overlay).

Set the fill color to # 11204f. Next, right-click on the layer and in the window that appears, select the option Rasterize Layer Styles (Rasterize Layer Style). Name the duplicate of the ‘Shadow’ layer. Place the layer with the shadow below the layer with the couple in love.

Using tools Move (Move) and Transformations(Transform), move the shadow down, slightly squeezing it. Position the shadow as shown in the screenshot below.

On the shadow layer, activate the free transformation tool (Ctrl + T), then right-click on the transformation area and in the window that appears, select the option Perspective(Perspective). Pull the bottom anchor point to the side to tilt the shadow.

Next, reduce the opacity of the shadow layer to 70%. Blur out the part of the shadow removed from the couple. Blur the shadow with any filter. Blur (blur). I used the Tilt-Shift filter, this filter is only available in Photoshop in versions CS6 and CC. In addition to this filter, you can use the filter Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur). Note that the shadow needs to be blurred at one end, not at the feet.

Step 3

Next, we will add lighting effects to the pair according to the light source.
At the beginning, we will create a shading. Since the light source is located in the background, then the side of the couple in love that is facing us will be darker.

Create a new layer as a clipping mask for the layer with a couple in love. Change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light). Using a soft brush, the brush color is black, the brush opacity is about 30%, start to paint over young people, but only gently, without touching the edges of the image.

Create a new layer below the shading layer. Also change the blending mode for this layer to Soft light (Soft Light). Using the same brush, only this time, the brush color is white, paint over the edges of the image of the young couple.

Step 4

Next, we will add an aura effect around a couple in love. First, create a new layer on top of the layer with the pair in love. Change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening (Screen).

Varying brush size using Brush pressure (flow) 16%, draw a neon green color, as shown in the screenshot below:

Create a new layer on top of the previous layer. Do the same, only this time, use a hot pink color.

Do the same, but this time, add a light blue tint.

Select the layers, and then merge all three layers into one layer. Blend mode for merged layer Lightening (Screen). Next, go Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion Blur). Apply a vertical blur (movement from top to bottom) until the elements of the aura appear smooth. Name this layer “Aura”.

Note: You can slightly increase the shape of the aura.

Create a new layer on top of the aura layer. Change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (Overlay). Now, do the same thing that you did earlier with a pink, green, and blue tint, only this time, use white to make the aura brighter and more solid.

Repeat the action again, only use thinner lines, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 5

Next, we will add snow. Pick up the snow texture exactly the same as in the screenshot below.

Change the blending mode for the Snow Texture layer to Lightening (Screen). Next, go Filter – Blur – Radial Blur (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur). Set the method Annular(Radial) quality The best(Best).

The value of the degree of blur will depend on your preferences depending on the size of your working image, so just experiment until you are satisfied with the result.

Once you have blurred the snow texture, duplicate the snow texture and then zoom in. To duplicate the snow texture layer, apply a filter Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur). The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Change the blending mode to duplicate the Snow Texture layer to Lightening (Screen).

Finally, duplicate the original Snow texture layer. Zoom out the texture image. Combine several layers of snow texture. The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Combine all layers with Snow textures in one layer. Place this merged layer on top of the layer with the background (main image). Change the blending mode for this merged layer to Lightening (Screen). The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 6

Next, we will perform color correction using corrective layers.
Create a new adjustment layer. Color Balance (Color Balance) on top of all other layers. Set the values: Red (Red) -38, Green (Green), -14, and Blue (Blue) +15.

Create a new layer on top of all other layers. Change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening (Screen). Using a large soft brush, the color of the brush is a bright pink color, paint over the top of the sky next to the light source. Reduce the layer opacity to 29%.

Create a new adjustment layer. Color search (Color Lookup) on top of all layers. In the settings, select the option Abstract (Abstract) and in the drop-down menu, select the “Sienna-Blue” option.

In conclusion, below the layers with the aura, but above the layer with the couple in love, create a new adjustment layer. Brightness / Contrast (Brightness and Contrast). Set the value Brightness (Brightness) -10, and the value The contrast (Contrast) +31.

Note: You can reduce the opacity of the layers with the Snow texture.

Step 7

Next, we will add a color reflection from the aura on the snow on the ground under the couple in love, as well as on a couple of young people. Create a new layer as a clipping mask for a layer with a couple in love. Change the blending mode for this layer to Lightening (Screen).

Using a medium-diameter brush as a color for the brush, use a mixture of the same color shades that you used to create the aura, paint over the pair in love.

Create a new layer on top of the layer with the couple in love, just do not convert this layer into a clipping mask. Change the blending mode for this layer to Overlap (Overlay).

In the same way, using the same brush, the same color shades: blue, green, pink, paint over the brush under the pair in love on the snow.

We have completed the lesson!
