Brewing hot coffee in Photoshop

In this lesson we are going to consider how to create a subtle smoke-like effect. Whether you want to add steam, fog or smoke to your photos, you will definitely now find this lesson for good use! Try, the possibilities are endless!

Materials for the lesson:

Step 1. Open the image inyou can use your own and create a new layer above (Smoke)

Step 2. Choose a Tool Polygonal Lasso (L) (Polygonal Lasso Tool) and create an abstract shape that looks similar to the example shown below. Fill with white (or whatever color you like).

Step 3. Now, to create a wavy smoke effect, go to Filter – Distortion – Wave (Filter> Distort> Wave) and set the following settings:

Step 4. After you have applied the Wave filter, you can proceed to Editing – Loosen – Wave (Edit> Fade> Wave) and set the transparency to 50% in the pop-up dialog box.

Step 5. Repeat these methods Distortion (Distort) and Let loose (Fade) several times to achieve the best results.

Step 6. Then, using the tool Finger (Smudge Tool) (R), change the smoke so that it looks more diffuse and seems to rise up from the coffee beans (as shown below).

Step 7. Duplicate the Smoke layer. Ctrl +Click on the layer thumbnail to get the selection and go to Selection – Change – Compression (Select> Modify> Contract): 7 pixels.

Step 8. Invert the selection (Ctrl + Shift + I) and press Delete. This will create a softer smoke effect than other layers.

Step 9. Adjust the opacity of the Smoke layer to 70% and the Smoke Copy layer to 50% before combining them. This will help soften the forms further.

Step 10. Duplicate the layers again and resize it. Use Ctrl + T to transform and click on the tool. Deformation (Warp tool) to reshape smoke.

Step 11. Next, select Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur, select radius: 3 pixels.

Select a layer opacity of 80%.

Step 12. To add more smoke to the grains, create a new empty layer and draw a shape around them with the tool Lasso (Lasso Tool) (L).

Go to Selection – Shade – 15 pixels (Select> Feather)

Step 13. Fill with white and use eraser (Eraser Tool) (E) to change the shape of the smoke.

Set the opacity of the Smoke Copy layer to 80% and flatten the layers.

This is the final image. Successfully try it over a cup of hot steaming coffee!
