In this tutorial, we will look at creating a sunrise scene on a regular image in Photoshop using various filters.
Program: Photoshop CS3 +
Estimated time to complete: 15 to 20 minutes
Step 1. Create a new document width. 1200 pixels and height 1000 pixels in photoshop.
Step 2. Open the image in which you want to apply this effect in Photoshop. Click Ctrl +A to select the entire image, then Ctrl +C, to copy the selection. Return to the working document and insert the image using the key combination Ctrl +V.
Step 3. Duplicate the image, for this we go to Layer> Duplicate Layer (Layer> Duplicate layer). Now go to Filter> Rendering> Lighting Effects (Filter> Render> Lighting effects), use the following settings.
Step 4. Now create a new layer – Layer> New Layer (Layer> New layer). Fill it with black (# 000000), using a tool Fill (Paint Bucket tool). Now go to Filter> Rendering> Blick (Filter> Render> Lens flare) and use the following values.
Step 5. Set the blending layer to blend mode Screen (Screen).
Step 6. Activate the light effect layer, go to Image> Correction> Levels (Image> Adjustments> Levels). Use the following settings.
Step 7. Now proceed to the sun’s rays. Create a new layer and fill it with black. (# 000000) with the tool Fill (Paint Bucket tool). Now go to Filter> Rendering> Fibers (Filter> Render> Fibers). Use these values.
Step 8. We go to Filter> Blur> Radial Blur (Filter> Blur> Radial blur), apply these settings.
Step 9. Change the blending mode of the layer with the rays to Screen (Screen).
Move the rays to the desired position with the tool Move (Move tool) so that their center comes out of the sun. Reduce the opacity of this layer to 35%.
Step 10. Now take a soft round eraser (eraser tool), lower brush opacity to 20% and gently erase the edges of the sun’s rays to dissolve them in the image.
Step 11. Create a new layer, place it directly above the layer with the lighting effect. Fill the layer with color #fffec4 with the tool Fill (Paint Bucket tool). Change the blending mode of this layer to Multiply (Multiply).
Step 12. You can create a sunrise effect on any image using this technique. If you apply this effect to an image with water, follow the tips in this step to create a reflection of the sun on the water surface. I have already applied all the above steps to this image with the river.
To lighten the water, select a soft round brush (brush) with opacity 15%. Set color # ff9024. Apply the brush on the water as shown below.
Set the blending mode to this layer. Overlap (Overlay).
Look at our final results.
