Have you ever thought about creating your own filter like in Instagram? So, with a few simple corrective layers in Photoshop, you can achieve a cool effect on a photo just like in your favorite application. And in this short tutorial, I’ll show you how to create an action in Photoshop that will recreate the famous Hudson filter.
Open your image in Photoshop, and we will use this stock photo in the lesson.
Start by creating an action. Open the palette Operations (Window / Operations / Window> Actions) (Alt + F9). Click on the “Folder” icon to create a new group “Instagram”, and then click on the icon to create a new action (Create a new operation / Create new action) and give it the name “Hudson”. As soon as you press the record button Record (Record), all your steps will automatically start recording.
Go to menu Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Color Search (Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Color Lookup). Select Kodak 2395 “3D LUT File” Fuji F125 from the menu and set the blending mode to “Brightness“(Luminosity).
Now create a new layer and fill it with the pale yellow color # fef3d5 using the tool “Fill” (Paint Bucket Tool (G)). Set the blending mode to “To divide“(Divide).
And we will finish the lesson with a vignette. Create a new layer and fill it with black. Create a large circle using the tool “Oval area” (Elliptical Marquee Tool (M)), and then click Delete, to remove the center. Go to menu Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur) and blur the edges by setting a radius of 65px. Reduce the opacity of the layer to 40%.
When done, click Stop (Stop) on the operations palette to use this new action in the future.
The final result.
