Create the effect of fiery sparks in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create beautiful magic sparks with a few simple steps.

We will use free transform, brushes, adjustment layers, and several filters. Here is a preview of the final result:

Step 1. Create a new document with the size of 200×200 px, fill the background with black color. We will use this document to create a brush.
Add a new layer above the background, press the B key to activate Brush tool (Brush), take a soft round brush with hardness (hardness) of 0%, choose white color:

Click once with a brush and click CTRL + T, to activate Free transform:

Then right-click on the document and select Distort (Distortion), grab the upper right knot and pull into the corner:

Press ENTER to accept the changes, then CTRL + T, right button and Distort (Distortion). Pull the knot again:

And we get the following result:

Step 2. Now we make the background transparent:

Move on Edit – Define Brush Preset (Editing – Define brush):

Enter the name of the brush and click OK:

As you can see, a new brush appeared on the panel:

Step 3. Now we press F5, To bring up the brush settings window, apply the following parameters:

Shape dynamics (Dynamics of the form)

Scattering (Scattering)

Other Dynamics (Other Dynamics)

Now our brush is completely ready for work.

Step 4. Create a new document and fill the background with black.
Using the created brush, paint over the canvas, do not worry if the result seems to be too dark, later we will correct it.

Now we can apply several adjustment layers. You can find them in the menu Layer – New Adjustment Layer (Layer – New adjustment layer).

Create three adjustment layers:

Color balance (Color balance)

Curves (Curves)

Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation)

You can also create small dots along the surface of the canvas (they should be on a separate layer and be located below the adjustment layers):

And we get the following result:

Step 5. Add a blur. Merge layers, duplicate the background, apply Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter – Blur – Blur in motion) with the following parameters:

Change layer blend mode to Screen (Lightening) and reduce the opacity (opacity) to 40%.

Final result:
