Step 1

In this tutorial, we’ll work with two images to show you how to create a slit cup with liquid. Let’s start with the opening in Photoshop image with a cup. Resize the image ImageImageSize (Image-Size Images) in width by 1000 px.

Choose a tool Clone stamp tool (Stamp) and soft round brush about 50 px. With the Ait clamped, the cursor changes to the target icon. Click on the place you want to use as a sample point. Then draw where you want to see the cloned area. During drawing, a cross will appear on the original part of the image, and a circle will appear at the drawing location.

Step 2

Let’s work on the background. Choose a tool Polygonal Lasso Tool (Polygonal Lasso) and create a selection cup.

Hold Alt to subtract a small background area between the handle and the cup from the selection.

Invert selection Ctrl + Shift + I and go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter-Blur-Blur according to Gauss) and set the following parameters.

Deselect by pressing Ctrl + D. Double-click on the background layer to convert it to a regular layer. Switch to Edit> Transform> Rotate (Image-Transformation-Rotate) and rotate the image slightly.

Stamp mask the empty space on the canvas.

Step 3

Open the flower image in Photoshop and move it to the working document. Resize Edit> Free Transform (Image-Free Transformation), hold Shift + Alt to keep the proportions. To make it easier to adjust the size of the image with a flower, reduce Opacity (Opacity) up to 50%.

Step 4

Change Opacity (Opacity) of the layer with the flower back to 100% and temporarily hide the visibility of the layer by clicking on the eye in the layers palette. Go to the cup layer. Choose a tool Pen tool (Pen) and create a contour similar to the surface of the liquid. Convert the outline to a selection and on the new layer fill the selection with white.

Turn on the ruler View> Rulers (View Rulers) or Ctrl + R and create two guides, as shown below.

Select Pen tool (Pen) (make sure the pen is in Paths (Contours) and create a contour.

Right click and select Make selection (Create Selection)

Create a new layer and fill the selection with color. # f0e5d3. Deselect (Ctrl + D). Move the horizontal guide a little higher, as shown in the screenshot below.

Create a new contour with a pen.

Convert the outline to a selection, as you did above, create a new layer and fill the selection with black. Deselect (Ctrl + D). Now we need to add a shadow on the bottom. Go to layer below and load layer selection Select> Load Selection (Selection-Load Selection). Choose a soft brush (Brush), in the settings on the top panel, set the value Opacity (Opacity) 16% color is black and draw a shadow.

Deselect (Ctrl + D) and go to the layer above.

Duplicate the Ctrl + J layer and apply this duplicate layer. Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur (Filter-Blur-Blur according to Gauss)

Turn off the visibility of the guides. View-Show-Guides (View-Show-Guides), we no longer need them. Load a selection of the layer with the white surface of the water and the layer with the black one not blurred (original).

Step 5

Select a layer with a flower, move the layer above all layers in the layers panel and turn on visibility by clicking on the eye.

Choose a tool Polygonal Lasso Tool (Polygonal Lasso), hold down the Shift key, a plus sign will appear near the cursor and add to the selection the petals that should be inside the cup.

Next, with the active selection go to the menu Layer> Layer Mask> Reveal Selection (Layer-Layer -Mask-Show Selection) to add a layer mask for a layer with a flower.

Bottom of the flower image is missing, select the tool Smudge tool (Finger) and mask the missing part.

Step 6

Duplicate the Ctrl + J flower layer and apply Filter> Distort> Glass (Filter-Distortion-Glass) on the duplicated layer.

On the layer mask with a black solid brush, erase the filter effect on the petals, which should be above the water surface.

Step 7

Above all layers create a new layer. Download the selection layer with a white oval of the water surface-Ctrl + click on the layer icon.

Choose a tool Gradient (G) (Gradient) from white to transparent and on a new layer while holding Shift, drag a gradient from the bottom edge of the selection.

Deselect (Ctrl + D) and change Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 37%. Use a soft eraser to clean the petals, which should be above the surface of the water ..

Water at a deeper level should be darker. Therefore, we need to darken it. Create a new layer. Load the selection layer with a black non-blurred shape. Select a gradient from black to transparent and apply to the selection on the new layer.

Deselect (Ctrl + D) and change the layer’s overlay mode to Soft light (Soft Light) and Opacity (Opacity) up to 37%.
And this is where our work is completed.
