Girl with a guitar in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create an epic composition with a girl guitarist in Photoshop. The main part of the lesson is devoted to editing layer masks, photo retouching and using filters.

For the lesson we will need several stock images:

Step 1. Create a new document (size is not important) with a black background, load the model image into Photoshop and mask the background, place it in the center of the canvas:

Now remove some dark points on the legs with Spot healing tool (Spot Healing Brush) (J):

Adjust the size of the brush to the size of the spots, then click the left mouse button to remove them:

Now we see that there are no more spots:

Gently adjust the edges with a soft eraser (E):

Add two adjustment layers above the layer with the model and apply to them clipping mask (CTRL + ALT + G):

Black and white (Black and white)

Levels (Levels)

Layer mask for corrective layer Levels (Levels):

We get the following result:

Step 2. Now add some clouds so that the model does not merge with the background – you can use a brush or Clouds filter (Clouds) to get this effect:

We also create the same behind the guitar and under our feet:

Use soft black brush (B) to create a shadow under your feet, make sure that the shadow is the same shape as the model’s legs:

Step 3. Now we can add water texture. Load it in Photoshop and using Quick selection tool (Quick selection) select a small area:

Copy (CTRL + C) and paste (CTRL + V) the selected area onto the working document and transform it with Edit – Transform – Warp (Editing – Transformation – Distortion), as shown below:

Apply adjustment layer to texture Black and white (Black and White):

Then apply the adjustment layer Levels (Levels):

And we get the following result:

Use filter Filter – Sharpen – Sharpen (Filter – Sharpness – Sharpness) to slightly sharpen the texture:

Duplicate this layer several times and place around the model:

Step 4. We draw a ring behind model with the help Elliptical Marquee Tool (Oval selection) (M), erase some areas with a soft eraser (E) to create the effect of destruction:

Repeat the process described in the previous step, apply the water texture to the ring, use Warp (Deformation) to transform it:

Continue until the entire ring is covered with a texture:

You can also place the texture above the model:

Step 5. Add more water texture. We return to the stock image and select a new area with Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L) (feather 30px):

Copy and paste the selected area on the working canvas, move it up and apply the adjustment layer Black and white (Black and White):

We get the following result:

Once we duplicate the water layer and move it down, use Warp (Warp) to transform it:

We need to create a splash effect behind the model, use soft eraser (E) To remove the front area:

And we get:

Step 6. Now we add an abstract texture. I decided to create a special brush for this. First, create a new document with dimensions of 150×150 px, then create a new layer and draw a soft black dot in the center. brush (B):

We use Warp (Warp) to transform a point, as shown below:

Then go to the filter Liquify (Plastic), adjust the brush as shown below:

We use Forward warp (Direct curvature):

Make sure the background layer is hidden, press CTRL + A, then go Edit – Define Brush Preset (Editing – Define brush):

After that, press F5 to go to the brush parameters:

Shape dynamics (Dynamics of the form)

Scattering (Scattering)

Other Dynamics (Other Dynamics)

Activate Airbrush (Airbrush), Smoothing (Anti-aliasing) and Protect Texture (Texture protection). Now use this brush as shown below:

Step 7. We are almost done. We use Sharpen tool (Sharpness) (R) to edit some areas on the model (after combining all the layers into one). Install Strenght (intensity) by about 30-40%:

Duplicate (CTRL + J) this layer and apply the filter Filter – Brush Strokes – Accented Edges (Filter – Strokes – Focus on edges):

We do not need the filter to act on the entire image, so we edit its layer mask:

And we get the following result:

Now add colors to the image, you can do it using several methods:

one. Color Balance Correction Layer (Color Balance) with the edited layer mask.
2. Draw with soft brushes on a new layer, at the same time set the layer blending mode to Overlay (Overlay), Soft Light or Color.
3. Experiment with channels.

You can try all three options and compare the results.
Here is the final result:
