Magic ball

In this tutorial we will create a glowing magic ball.

Step 1. Create a new document size 1900×1200 pixels. This can be done by clicking CTRL +N, either through the menu File – New (File – New). Fill the document with black. To do this, reset the colors by clicking D, then click ALT +Backspace.

In the following picture, I give the order and the names of all the layers so that you can check it. Therefore, I will not elaborate on where to place which layer.

Step 2. Choose a tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool) by clicking U, then draw the correct circle in the center, for this you need to hold the key SHIFT.

Apply a layer to styles. Layer – Layer Style – Blending Options (Layer – Layer Style – Blending Options). First choose Internal glow (Inner glow). Use white color, blending mode – Lightening basics (Color Dodge), opacity – 70%.

Next, go to the submenu Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay). Use linear style, blend mode Normal. Colors for gradient choose # 12232c and # 313444.

Go to the submenu Stroke (Stroke). Choose a color #a395cf, opacity 60%, position – inside.

You should be like this.

Step 3.Choose a tool Ellipse, pressing U. Now we’ll use it in the contour creation mode, not the shape. Draw an ellipse at the top of the circle. If necessary, adjust its position with the tool. Move(Move).

Load the outline as a selection from the outline palette by clicking on the corresponding icon at the bottom of the Paths palette.
Create a new layer and name it. “Blick on top”. Always let the names of the layers, because when they form three to four dozen in the process of work (sometimes there are three or four hundred), it is very easy to get confused.
Choose a tool Gradient (Gradient Tool). Use white color at both ends of the gradient. Set opacity accordingly. 100 and 50%. To set the colors, click on the squares at the bottom of the edit bar, and the opacity – on the squares at the top of the bar. Gradient style use radial, opacity 70%.

Step 5. Now create a glow at the bottom of our ball.
To do this, load the ball shape as a selection by clicking on it with the mouse pressed CTRL. Create a new layer and name it “Glow Down”.
Choose a tool Gradient, change the opacity value on the right end from 50 to 0%. Opacity set the layer around 50%. Now create a glow at the bottom of the ball.

Step 6. Create a new layer and name it. “Glow in the ball”. Make sure that the main and background colors are white and black. Apply the following filters: Filter – Rendering – Clouds (Filter – Rendering – Clouds)

Filter – Sketch – Chrome (Filter – Sketch – Chrome). Detail 3, Smoothing 10.

Then we apply the free transform, for this we click CTRL +T, and resize the layer so that it overlaps the ball a little.

Step 7. Load the ball shape as a selection. Apply Filter – Distortion – Spherization (Filter – Distort – Spherize).
Then Filter – Strokes – Airbrush (Filter – Brush Strokes – Sprayed Strokes).
Stroke length 17, splash radius 7.

Step 8. Now add color to our ball.
Go to the menu Layer – Layer Style – Blending Options.
Change the blending mode to Lightening basics (color dodge), opacity of the fill set 60%.
Then go to the submenu Gradient overlay (gradient overlay), and create a new gradient using the colors purple, green and orange. Gradient Radial Style, Blend Mode Overlap.
Load the ball shape as a selection. Then we invert the selection by clicking SHIFT +CTRL +I, and remove unwanted areas around the ball.

Step 9. Now we will create discharges inside the ball.
Create a new layer and name it. “Discharges”. Apply Filter – Rendering – Clouds (Filter – Rendering – Clouds), then Filter – Rendering – Clouds with overlay (Filter – Rendering – Difference Clouds). Then resize the layer using free transform by clicking CTRL +T. It is necessary that the layer slightly overlaps the ball.

Step 10. Invert the layer by clicking CTRL +I. Then apply the command Levels (Levels). To do this, click CTRL +L. Set the settings as shown. After applying the command, change the blending mode of the layer to Brighten the base.

Step 11. Load the ball shape as a selection. Apply Filter – Distortion – Spherization. Invert the selection by clicking SHIFT +CTRL +I, and remove unwanted areas on the layer “Discharges.” Invert the selection again. Now create a new layer above the layer. “Glow Down” and call it “Color Setting”. Fill the selection with black color by clicking ALT +Backspase.

Go to the Layer Style menu, reduce the opacity of the fill to 0% and choose a submenu Gradient overlay. Use blend mode Multiplication (Multiply) opacity 90%, Gradient linear style, color from black to dark gray. Pic

Step 12. Now add the texture to the ball.
Create a new layer above the layer. “Discharges” and call it “Texture”. Do not forget to refer to the figure, where the location of the layers. Apply Filter – Rendering – Clouds (Filter – Rendering – Clouds).
Then, using free transformation, reduce the size of the layer so that it slightly overlaps the ball. Apply Filter – Distortion – Wave (Filter – Distort – Wave) Set the settings as shown.

Step 13. Apply Filter – Strokes – Spraying (Filter – Brush Strokes – Spatter). Spray radius 15, softening 2 Then load the ball shape as a selection and apply Filter – Distortion – Spherization. Next we invert the selection and delete the unwanted areas around the ball.

Step 14. Change the blending mode to Lightening (Screen) layer opacity 50%, fill opacity 50%.

Step 15. Create a new layer above the background, let’s name it. “Glow under the ball”, make an oval selection on it and fill it with white.

Apply to this layer Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur).

Step 16. Create a new layer above the previous one, let’s name it. “Shadow below”, let’s make an oval selection on it and fill it with black color.

Apply to this layer Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur (Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur).

Step 17. Create a new layer above the layer. “Texture”. Call it “Glow over the ball”. Similarly, create an oval selection, fill it with white and blur. If necessary, lower the opacity of the layer.

Step 18. Create a new adjustment layer “Gradient Fill”. For gradient we use colors. # 223158 and # b8641c. Gradient style radial, angle within 115-120º. The blend mode is changed to Overlap (Overlay).

Step 19. Create a new layer above the rest and name it. “Inner Light”. Fill the layer with black by clicking ALT +BACKSPACE. Change the blending mode to Lightening. Apply Filter – Rendering – Blick (Filter -Render – Lens Flare).

Now apply the command Levels, to increase the glow.

Next, apply free transform. Push CTRL +T and compress the layer in the horizontal plane.

Step 20. Our magic ball is almost ready.
The final touch: create a new layer and paint with a brush irregular reflections and shadows under the ball.

That’s what happened with us! I wish you creative success.
