Time does not stop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a collage called “You Can Not Frost The Time” (You won’t stop time).

Look at the finished work:

Before we begin, you need to upload some pictures that we will use in creating our collage:

Step 1 – Blending Backgrounds
Open the picture with the sky and the pier and drag them to the new document. Layer the pier with the pier name and place it above the layer with the sky.
Now add a layer mask for the pier (there is a button at the bottom of the layers panelAdd layer mask“(Add layer mask). Activate the tool Brush Tool (Brush) (B) with a soft round brush in black. Make sure that the layer mask is active (if not, just click on it) and start navigating to the areas you want to hide.
After this stage, your work should look like this:

Step 2 – Add a Daemon
Open the picture with the demon’s body, drag it to our work and call the new layer “body”. Now open the picture with the head of the demon, activate the tool Marquee tool(Selection) (M) and select the area with the head. Next, activate MoveTool (Move) (V) and drag on the main document with which we work. We call the new layer, you guessed it, “head”. Call Free transform (CTRL + T) and adjust the position of the head relative to the body. When finished, press ENTER.
Add a layer mask to the “head” and with a soft black round brush we sketch the areas that you want to hide. Also, you can erase the eyes, because later we will superimpose the image of the skull in their place.
If you are not sure what to leave and what does not, use the image below:

Now open the image of the skull and select the eye sockets (there are different ways to select, you can use the one that you consider most convenient for yourself). Move them to the main document and place it on the demon’s head.
Create a new layer. Using the tool Brush Tool (Brush) (B) with a soft round brush of green-blue color, draw two dots on the eyes.
After the done manipulations, your image should look like this:

Step 3 – Freeze the Daemon
At this stage, we will add ice on the demon’s hand and head. Open the image of ice. Move on Select – Color Range … (Selection – Color Range …) and set the parameter Fuzziness (Blurred) at 170. As a result, a selection will appear around areas with white color. Color range (Color Range) is a simple tool with which you can create a selection based on the color or key you want.

After application Fuzziness (Fuzziness), click CTRL + C, to copy the selection, then go to the main document and click CTRL + V, to insert a selection. Further CTRL + T and, with the help of Free Transformation, we adjust the size and place the ice on the demon’s hand. Change Blending mode (Blend Mode) on Hard light (Hard light) (option Blending mode located at the top of the layers panel).

Add a layer mask to the ice layer. Activate Brush tool (Brush) (B) and load the Abstract Glow Brush into Photoshop. Set the black color and hold on the areas that need to be hidden. In the process, change the size and opacity of the brush to make the picture more accurate and beautiful.
Let’s do the same with the head. Use Color range (Color range) to highlight ice. Copy selection to main document, change Blending mode (Blend Mode) on Hard light (Hard light) add layer mask and final brush strokes. Here’s what we got:

Step 4 – Head
The demon’s head still doesn’t look very realistic. To fix this, add light and shadow.
Create a new layer and fill it with gray (# 808080), change it Blending mode (Blend Mode) on Overlay (Overlap). Using Dodge tool (Clarifier) and Burn tool (Dimmer) (O), add light and shadow. Due to the fact that we do all the cut-off manipulations on a separate layer, the main drawing remains intact, and if you make a mistake, you can always undo the last step (CTRL + Z) and fix everything.

Step 5 – Adding a Hourglass
Open the hourglass image and select them. Then move to the main document, adjust the size and slope (CTRL + T). Add layer mask and with a small round black brush with an opacity of 15%, remove the area near the fingers. Lightly draw on the glass to make it transparent. Compare:

Now we have to add movement. Copy the layer (CTRL + J) with the clock and place the duplicate above the original. Move on Filter – Blur – Motion blur (Filter – Blur – Blur in motion) and set the slider to 12, click OK.
Some more shadows. Create a new layer and place it on the one you just worked with. Fill it with color # 808080 and change Blending mode (Blend Mode) on Overlay (Overlap). Now take a soft round brush black with an opacity of 20% and draw shadows around the clock and at hand.
After that, our work began to look like this:

Step 6 – Add Wave Spray
At this stage we will add splashes from the waves around the demon. Here we will use again Color range (Color range).
To begin, download all the photo waves and brush Water spray.
Open the first photo with the waves and go Select – Color Range… (Color range). Fuzziness (Fuzziness) set at its discretion. I used the same meaning as in Step 3. Remember that the white areas should be highlighted, the black areas should not, and the gray areas should remain translucent. Try to place the waves on all sides of the demon, so that the end result looks most realistic.
You can see the order of adding and positioning the waves in the animation below:

Step 7 – Adding a Wizard
We load photos of the conjurer into Photoshop. That which I used is not available for free use, but finding something similar on the Internet will not be difficult. Remove the background and move our magician to the main document. We press CTRL + T and customize the size.
Create a new layer above the wizard layer. Take the brush Abstract glow of gray-blue color and draw a magic glow around the magician.
I also added a glow near the arm and around the demon’s head. You, of course, can use any color your fantasy wishes.

Step 8 – Thunder and Lightning
Most have already been done. In the next steps we will add more details, adjust the color, light and shadows. Let’s start with the light.
Activate Brush tool (Brush) (B) and load the Brush Glow. Create a new layer and paint with a white brush.
Create a new layer again, fill it with gray color and change it. Blending mode (Blend Mode) on Overlay (Overlap). Now take a soft round brush white color, opacity (opacity) at 10%. We spend on the sky to make the picture brighter.
Brush Birds draw a few feathers to the left of the demon to fill the empty space. But if you don’t like the result, don’t.

Step 9 – Correct locally
Some areas on the demon’s face should be brighter, and on the hourglass – more contrast. In this step we will try to fix it.
Activate the demon face layer (not with ice, but with the face) and create a new adjustment layer Levels (Levels) (the button for adding a correction layer is at the bottom of the layers palette):

Install the following options: 0; 1.64; 255 and click OK. Click the right mouse button on the adjustment layer and select the option Create Clipping Mask (Create clipping mask). Now layer with Levels (Levels) will act only on the lower layer (in our case only on the face).
Now click on the hourglass layer and also add Levels adjustment layer (Levels). Settings such: 26; 1.34; 215. Click OK and create a clipping mask.

Step 10 – “Misting”
In order to give a more fantastic atmosphere to our work, we will a little “cloud up” its lower part. Create a new layer and place it above all the others. Activate Gradient tool (Gradient) (G). While holding ALT, we take a sample of some bright color in the picture. Select a translucent gradient and draw as in the image below:

Step 11 – Global Lighting
Now let’s add some light effects to make the work look more dramatic. Create a new layer and place it above all others. Fill in gray (# 808080) and change Blending mode (Blend Mode) on Overlay (Overlap). Move on Filter – Render – Lighting Effects (Filter – Rendering – Lighting Effect) and set the following parameters:

Then click OK. Make the demon’s head and hand a little brighter. To do this, take the tool Brush tool (Brush) (B), choose a soft round brush of white color with opacity (opacity) of 10%. We spend with a brush on those areas that should be brighter. If you want to do the opposite, darker, then instead of white, take black. All manipulations should be carried out on the gray layer to which we applied the Light Effect filter.
In the image below, you can see which parts of the picture I have clarified:

See the result:

Step 12 – Add Texture
This is a very simple step. Load the grunge texture into Photoshop and drag it to the main document. Place the layer with it at the very top of the layers palette. Now we experiment with opacity and blending modes. Here your imagination is given complete freedom. I used blending mode Soft light (Soft light) and opacity by 37%.

Step 13 – Adjust Globally
In this step we will be global, i.e. not on a separate section of the image, but on the entire surface, adjust the color. First, we discolor the picture a little. Add new adjustment layer (how to do it, I hope you remember) Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) over all other layers and lower the Saturation to -50. Now add the Color Balance adjustment layer and set the following parameters:

Next, change the brightness and contrast. Create Brightness / Contrast adjustment layer (Brightness / Contrast) and both sliders are moved by a value of +10. And the last adjustment layer will be Photo filter, color – Cyan (Green Blue).

Step 14 – Sharpness
Here we come to the last stage. Soon we will be able to see the result of our labors. But first, add sharpness to the picture. To do this, activate Rectangular marquee tool (Rectangular selection) (M) and select the entire image. Move on Edit – Copy Merged (Editing – Copy merged data) or simply press the key combination SHIFT + CTRL + C. Then CTRL + V, to paste copied.
Further Filter – Other – Highpass (Filter – Other – Color Contrast) and set the radius to 4px, click OK. And the last thing we do is change Blending mode (Blend mode) of this layer on Overlay (Overlap).
And here is the result:

Congratulations! You just learned how using Photoshop to create a wonderful picture called “You will not stop time.” I hope the lesson was not very difficult for you and you learned something new for yourself or you were visited by interesting ideas for future projects.
