Make the tree scream using Photoshop

To start this lesson you will need these photos:

Step 1.Open the image, and drag them into one document as in the image below.

Step 2. Now with the help Pen tool (Pen) separate the head from the background. Rename the layers to “head front” and “head side”.

Step 3. For the tree, I decided to use the disguise channel. Duplicate layers and switch from Layers (Layers) on Channels and click on the blue channel, adjust Levels (Level) as pictured below. Fill the areas inside the tree with black color, and the background white with Brush Tool (Brush) (B).

Step 4. Invert (Ctrl + I) copy of the blue channel (blue channel copy). Click on the thumbnail of this layer with the button pressed. CTRL, to get the selection, then switch back to Layers (Layers) and click on the mask icon for the tree layer to hide the excess. Next, remove the leaves on the left because there will be one of the heads.

Step 5. Turn off visibility for the head side layer. Now we will work with head front. Duplicate the head front layer and hide the original head front. Then using Lasso Tool (Lasso) (L) select the areas of the head and do the inversion (Select>Inverse) (Selection> Invert) (Shift +Ctrl +I) blur the edges around your head using a Radial Blur Filter, Filter> Blur> Radial Blur(Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) put a tick on Zoom(Linear) as pictured below.

Step 6. Now, change the blending mode for this layer to Hard Light. Disguise a little head to remove the ears, but as we can see the color of the head is still a little different from the tree. Here’s what we will do next:

1. Click Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Hue /Saturation (Layers> New Adjustment Layer> Hue / Saturation) and set Saturation:-67 then click right on the layers and select Create Clipping Mask (Create clipping mask) (Alt + Ctrl + G);
2. Then Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Selective Color (Layers> New Adjustment Layer> Selective Color Correction), in the drop-down list Colors select White and move the slider Black + 48% , to reduce light also apply Create Clipping Mask (Create clipping mask) (Alt + Ctrl + G). Select layer mask Selective color (Selective color correction), and use a black brush, brush over your teeth.

Step 7. The head seemed to go deep into the tree and began to lose detail. Turn on the head front and lower opacity (opacity) by 50%. Create a mask and mask some of the edges with a soft black brush. Now create a new empty layer above the layers with trees and apply the tool Gradient (Gradient) (G) with black and white color. Change layer blending mode to Soft light (soft light) and adjust opacity (opacity) on 50 % make it like the image below. Make a CreateClipping mask (Create clipping mask) (Alt + Ctrl + G) for this layer to the tree layer. This brightening of the tree will be more balanced for the face.

Step 8. Next, duplicate the tree layer and name it texture1, and apply the filter Radial blur (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) in mode Zoom (Linear) with a power of 55px – with the head as the center point for this filter. Then apply Filter>Sketch>Bas Relief Filter (Filter> Sketch> Relief) (Details (Details): 15; Smooth (Softening): 2; Light (Light): right (Right)). Make sure the color palette has basic colors black and white, click for this D, when using the BasRelief filter.

Note: the Zoom Blur filter is used to create a stretch effect, and the Bas Filter-Scetch-Relief filter will increase the texture depth:

Step 9. Now we use Filter> Liquify(Filter> Plastic) (Shft + Ctrl + X) To layer texture1 and select the tool Forward warpTool (Deformation) (W) and pull together the sides where the inflation is done. This should compress the edges in the location of the face with the texture, so it will create more depth. You may need to cancel your attempts a couple of times to get to the head location correctly.

Step 10. Change layer blending mode to Soft Light (soft light) create Vector Mask (Layer-Mask) and start to mask areas of texture 1 around the face from the area shown in purple, and not the front area.

Duplicate the texture1 layer, create Vector Mask (Layer-Mask) and fill it with black, then take a white brush and draw the places shown in the image below.

Step 11. Now hide the other layers besides the tree and the head side. Resize the head side to fit and place it in the left side of the tree. Apply
Radial Blur (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) in mode Zoom (Linear) at the place where you want to connect the head with the tree (in this case, the back of the head), just as we did for ‘head front’:

Select the tree layer and make a selection around the head side, make it like the image below. Duplicate the selection 2 times.

Step 12. Now take one of the duplicate layer and apply the filter Radial blur (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) (Filter> Blur> Radial Blur) in mode Spin (Annular). Now duplicate this layer. Transform (Ctrl + T) these two layers and place them accordingly to place this curve on the forehead and neck.

Step 13. Combine 2 blurred layers and name curve. At this stage, you can remove unwanted places.

Step 14. Duplicate the curve layer, rename it to curve texture and apply a filter Bas reliefFilter>Sketch>Bas Relief Filter (Filter> Sketch> Relief) (Details: 15; Smooth: 2; Light: right). Blend mode Soft Light (soft light).

Step 15. Take the 2nd duplicate of the “tree” layer and rename it to skin. In the filter LiquifyFilter> Liquify (Filter> Plastic) transform it so that you get a kind of stretching like the image below.

Step sixteen. Remove with help Eraser Tool (Eraser) (E)
far out unwanted areas and duplicate the skin layer, name the duplicate skin texture. Raise these 2 layers to the top and change the blending mode of the skin layer to Lighten (replacement light). As for the skin texture, apply it mode Soft Light (soft light).

Step 17. Turn on visibility for all layers and you should get an image as shown below. Merge all layers into one with Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E.

Step 18. You can change the image settings for maximum effect. I changed the color, saturation, and using the filter Filter> Liquify (Filter> Plastic) stretched out the neck as an image.

Step 19. Here we have achieved the desired result, but you can also add sharpness.

And also you can add a background.
