Classic navigation

In this lesson you will learn how to create an elegant design with simple shapes and gradients.

Type of final result

Step 1. First create a new document. 540 on 440 pixels. Fill the background with color # 1b1b1b, using Edit> Fill (Edit> Run Fill).

Step 2. Now we need to create the background of the navigation window. Create a new layer. This can be done with Layer> New> Layer (Layer> New> Layer) or pressing hotkeys Ctrl + Shift + Alt + N.

Choose a tool Rounded rectangle tool(Rectangle with rounded corners) and set the radius 5 pixels. Make a selection 250 on 300pixels.

Fill this selection with a red gradient. Choose a tool Gradient Tool (Gradient) and install RadialGradient(Radial gradient). Fill this selection with a gradient from the top center (# bc0303) to the bottom center (# 3f0000).

Step 3. Now we need to add an external glow to our navigation background. This can be done with Layer> Layer Styles> Outer Glow(Layer> Layer Style> Outer Glow) and enter the parameters below.

Now it should look like this.

Step 4. Choose a text tool TextTool (Text) and add text for the header of the navigation block. I used the font Verdana, Regular(Aboutyychny), 22pt (fri), Strong (Sharp), #ffffff.

Step 5. Create a new layer and using the tool Rounded rectangle tool(Rounden Rectangle) again, make a selection 230 on 250 pixels under the inscription (with 10 piscal indent from the edges).

Fill the selection with dark gray (# 111111), using Edit> Fill (Edit> Run Fill).

Step 6. The next thing we need is to add light effects to the new layer. To do this, on the new layer (meaning the selection that was before this) we use Select> Modify> Contract(Select> Modify> Compress) on 10 pixels.

Using the tool Gradient Tool (Gradient),fill the selection Radial gradient(RadialGradient) from the upper left corner (#ffffff) to the bottom right (transparent).

Will reduce Transparency (Opacity) layer up five%.

Step 7. Now for text links using a text tool TextTool(Text), add text to act as links. I used the font Verdana, Regular(Aboutyychny), 12pt(fri), None (Not),# 5a5a5a(#ffffff for the active link). Set the line height to 30 pixels.

Step 8. Now we need to add separators between the links. Make a selection 210 on 1 pixel, using the selection tool MarqueeTool(Rectangular area) between each line and fill with color # 1e1e1e.

Step 9. Finally, you need to add a background color behind the active link (in my case, I made Photoshop Tutorials active). To do this, you need to create a new layer behind the text layer, make a selection 210 on thirty pixels using the selection tool MarqueeTool(Rectangular area) and fill it with color # 171717.
