Draw a TV icon in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a beautiful vintage TV icon in Photoshop. A detailed description of each step will help you understand the whole process of creating this icon. So let’s get started!

The final result:

Step 1

Let’s start by creating a new document, let’s go File – New (File> New). Set the following parameters.

Step 2

Fill the background with white #FFFFFF, and then apply the following layer style.

Step 3

Next, select the tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)). In the settings of this tool, set Radius (Radius) 35 px. Draw a rectangle of any color of your choice. Name the layer with the rectangle ‘Body’. Next, apply the following layer styles to the ‘Body’ layer.

Next, on the same ‘Corps’ layer, apply Stroke (Stroke).

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 4

Next, select the tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)). In the settings of this tool, set Radius (Radius) 35 px. Draw another rectangle of any color of your choice. Name the layer with the rectangle ‘Body 2’. Next, on the ‘Body 2’ layer, apply the following layer styles.

Next, on the same layer ‘Case 2’, apply Stroke (Stroke).

And then, to this same layer, add Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 5

Create a new layer, place this layer below the ‘Body’ layer. Name this layer “Base”. Using tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)), radius 35 px, draw a rectangle, as shown in the screenshot below.

Go to the ‘Body’ layer, and then right-click on this layer and in the appeared window select the option Copy layer style (Copy Layer Styles). Next, go to the ‘Foundation’ layer, also right-click on this layer and in the appeared window select the option Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style). Now, we need to fix the size Strokes (Stroke), setting 3 px for the ‘Foundation’ layer.

Result.

Step 6

Create a new layer by placing this layer below the ‘Base’ layer. Name this layer ‘Leg’. Using tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)), radius 35 px, draw a small rectangle, and then apply the following layer styles.

Next, to the ‘Leg’ layer, add Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Now duplicate the ‘Leg’ layer. Arrange the duplicate layer as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 7

Create a new layer, name this layer ‘Glance’. Place this layer on top of all other layers. Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool (B)) and using a large soft brush, put a white spot.

Next, change the blending mode for the ‘Gloss’ layer to Overlap (Overlay) and also reduce opacity (Opacity) of this layer up to 50%.

Step 8

Create a new layer, name this layer “Screen’ ”. Place this layer on top of all other layers. Using tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)), radius 35 px, draw a rectangle. Next, go to the layer ‘Building 2’, and then right-click on this layer and in the appeared window select the option Copy layer style (Copy Layer Styles). Next, go to the ‘Screen ’layer, also right-click on this layer and in the appeared window select the option Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style). Now, we need to fix the size Strokes (Stroke) by setting 10 px for the ‘Screen’ layer.

Result.

Step 9

In this step, we will create a TV screen. Create a new layer, name this layer “Screen 2’ ”. Place this layer on top of all layers. Using tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)), radius 35 px, draw a rectangle. Next, on the ‘Screen 2’ layer, apply a layer style Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay).

Next, to the ‘Screen 2 ’layer, add Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).

Next, apply Internal glow (Inner Glow).

Finally, add a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow).

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 10

Create a new layer, name this layer ‘Screen gloss’. Place this layer on top of all other layers. Choose a tool Pen (Pen tool (P)). With this tool, draw a shape as shown in the screenshot below. Fill this shape with white #FFFFFF.

Reduce value Opacity (Opacity) layer up to 20%.

Step 11

Create a new layer, name this layer “Light Spot”. Place this layer on top of all layers. Choose a tool Brush (Brush Tool (B)). Using a large soft brush, draw one white spot. Remember to use a layer mask to hide unnecessary patches of light.

Step 12

In this step, we will create switches for our TV. Choose a tool Ellipse (Ellipse Tool). Using this tool, create a circle by placing it as shown in the screenshot below. Name this layer ‘Switch’.

Next, go to the layer ‘Building 2’, and then right-click on this layer and in the appeared window select the option Copy layer style (Copy Layer Styles). Next, go to the ‘Switch’ layer, also right-click on this layer and in the appeared window select the option Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style). The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Next, create another circle by arranging this circle, as shown in the screenshot below.

Now, to the created button, apply the following layer styles:

Next, apply a layer style. Stroke (Stroke).

Next, apply a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow).

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Next, with the tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)), draw a rectangle, placing it as shown in the screenshot below.

Now, for the layer with the vertical rectangle, apply the previous steps, adding the same layer styles, the only thing we need to slightly change the settings for the layer style Shadow (Drop Shadow).

The switch should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 13

Next, duplicate the switch layer. Position the duplicate layer below the original switch by turning the duplicate switch slightly to the right. In this step, we need to slightly change the layer style settings. Gradient overlay (Gradient overlay).

So, our switches are ready. The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 14

To create speakers, we need to draw a small rectangle with rounded corners. Position this rectangle as shown in the screenshot below.

Now, to the drawn rectangle, add the following layer styles:

Next, add a layer style. Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).

Next, add a layer style. Stroke (Stroke).

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Now, duplicate the speaker layer several times, placing duplicates, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 15

Next, add the brand name of the TV. To the text layer, add the following layer styles to give the text a metallic look.

Next, add a layer style. Shadow (Drop Shadow).

Result.

Step 16

Using tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded rectangle tool (U)), draw a rectangle, placing it as shown in the screenshot below. This will be our TV’s antenna. Next, on the layer with the drawn antenna, apply the layer styles to add a metallic look to the antenna.

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Step 17

Next, we will add a shadow to the TV. Create a new group on top of the layer with the background. Name this group ‘Shadow’. Using tool Ellipse (Ellipse tool (U)), draw an ellipse, and then fill it with black. Next, on the layer with the ellipse, apply the filter Gaussian blur (Gaussian Blur). Set the blur radius to 15 px.

Now, with the tool Eraser (Eraser Tool (E)), process the edges of the shadow. Next, change the blending mode for the shadow layer to Multiplication (Multiply) and also reduce opacity (Opacity) layer to 47%.

The result should be as in the screenshot below.

Duplicate the shadow layer. Reduce the size of the duplicate shadow layer by placing the duplicate with the shadow right under the legs of the TV.
