In this tutorial you will learn how to create an elegant template design for a WordPress blog.
- French patterns
- Round hole
Create a new document in Photoshop Width (Width) 1150px, Hight(Height) 1280px, Resolution(Resolution) 72 px / inch.
Create a selection on the new 128 * 128px layer. Fill the selection with a pattern GoldVellum from the basic set of photoshop ColorPaper (Colored paper). Transform the created selection, make it 116 * 116px in size and create a new pattern Edit-> Define Pattern (Edit -> Define Pattern).
Translator’s Note: Perhaps, it will be easier for someone to create a pattern not on a new layer, but in a new document with specified dimensions 128 * 128, fill it with a pattern, resize the image Image->ImageSize (Image -> Image Size) to 116 * 116 and then define the pattern.
Fill the background layer with the resulting pattern, and perform the following layer correction.
Image->Correction->SelectiveColor(Image-> Correction-> Selective color correction). Name this layer Color paper.
Create a new layer, name it. Vintage ornament, fill it with any color, specify Fill (Fill) 0%. Apply the overlay option OverlayPattern (Overlay pattern) to this layer.
Create a new layer, name it. Points. Fill it with light yellow colorff6b6.
Apply blend mode Dissolve (Attenuation) c Opacity (Opacity) 16%.
Merge layer Points with a new blank layer, specify Opacity (Opacity) 76%.
Apply blending options Drop shadow (Shadow), Bevel and Emboss (Embossed).
Duplicate and merge all three background layers – Color paper, Vintage ornament and layer Points. Now we have a background for our theme. Create a new layer and draw a rounded rectangle of 850 * 850px, Radius (Radius) 6px.
Apply the following blending options for the created layer.
Create and merge an ellipse with a rectangle, the size of the merged shape should be
about 892 * 189px. Make the ragged edges with Eraser tool (Eraser) small round shape. Add an overlay parameter to the merged shape. Color overlay (Overlay color) with color # f5eed8.
Load the selection of the resulting shape and create a new layer above. Process the edge of the selected shape with a small round white brush to create a torn paper effect.
Now load the selection of the inner area, create a new layer and fill it with any color. Specify Fill (Fill) 0% and apply the blending option Inner shadow (Inner shadow).
You should get something like this
Choose a soft brush and make a bright spot, use color #faf3dd.
Via Pen tool ( Pen) create the next shape of size 78 * 177px. Take advantage of a little Eraser tool (Eraser) so that the top and bottom edges of the shape appear slightly torn.
Apply a linear gradient to this shape, use the following colors: #ddca97, #d6c094, #eadebb, #f9f7e2, #fbf6e0, #ede2bf, #fff9dc.
Return to the original non-merged background layers. Select layers Color paper and Points, merge them (do not use a layer in the merge Vintage ornament), name the resulting layer Shiny paper. Load the shape selection with gradient, make the newly created layer active. Shiny paper, Copy the selected area and paste it on a new layer above the shape with a gradient. Make a layer Shiny paper invisible.
Apply blend mode Multiply (Multiplication) Opacity (Opacity) 25%.
Load the shape selection with the gradient again. Create a new blank layer. Navigate Edit-> Stroke (Editing-> Stroke) 1px, Color (Colour) #ffffff, Outside (outside).
Erase the left and right edges with a soft-edged brush.
Apply blend mode SoftLight (Soft light)
Create a new form using the previous steps. Place this shape below the created layers.
Apply the overlay option GradientOverlay (Gradient overlay), use the following colors: #c3aa75, #bfa977, #f0efiveb6, #fefbefive, #eonecead.
To create a shadow effect, load a selection of a new shape. Fill it with brown in the new layer. Apply blend mode Multiply (Multiplication) with Opacity(Opacity) 40%. Erase selected area with Eraser tool (Eraser) with soft edges.
Draw a small shape like the image below.
Apply the overlay option Gradient overlay (Gradient overlay)
Create another form. For gradient, use colors: #c3aa75, #bfa977, #f0efiveb6, #fefbefive, #eonecead.
Create a small shadow just like in the previous form.
Download the selection of the two lower forms. Make the layer active Shiny paper, Copy the selection and paste it onto a new layer above the shape data.
Apply blend mode Multiply (Multiplication) Opacity (Opacity) 30%.
Create another small form at the top.
Apply the overlay option GradientOverlay (Gradient overlay):
Now we have a good torn paper effect.
Create a dark shadow. Load a selection of the entire form of torn paper and fill it with any color on the new bottom layer.
Apply filter Filter-> Blur-> Gaussian Blur(Filter-> Blur-> Gaussian Blur) (1%) and apply the blending option Gradient Overlay (Gradient overlay). Move the created shape down a bit and to the left.
Duplicate the shadow layer and apply the filter again. Gaussian blur(Blur according to Gauss) (2.5%). Move the new shadow 3-4 pixels down and to the left.
For the search form, create a rectangle with rounded corners 138px * 23px, Radius (Radius) 4px.
Apply the following blending options.
Create a circle 34 * 34px. Make a selection inside the circle at 31 * 31 points, cut it.
Apply the following blending options to the created form.
To create a glass effect, from a drawing Magnifiercopy area of glass. Insert the glass in a new layer and apply a photo filter to it. Image-> Adjustments -> photo Filter (Image-> Correction-> Photo Filter) with settings Warming filter
(85) (Warm filter (85)), Density (Density) 60%. Apply blending mode to the same layer. Multiply (Multiplication) Opacity (Opacity) 35%.
Duplicate the glass layer, make it black and white. Image -> Adjustments -> Black White (Image-> Correction-> Black and White). Navigate Image-> Adjustments-> Levels (Image-> Correction-> Levels), move the black and white marker to the center.
Apply an overlay on this layer. Screen (Screen).
Create the following form for the pen, set Fill (Fill) 0%.
Apply blending options BevelandEmboss (Embossed) and GradientOverlay (gradient overlay).
Draw a 1px brown line with the following settings: blending mode Multiply (Multiplication) Opacity (Opacity) 50%.
And the line in 1px white with settings: blending mode Overlay (Overlap).
Download a selection of all shapes except glass. Fill the selection in the new bottom layer with a dark brown color. Apply filter Gaussian Blur Filter (Blur according to Gauss) (1%).
Move the resulting shadow 1px down and to the left.
Add page headers, use color #84724a, apply overlay to text DropShadow (Shadow).
You can add several icons, such as Twitter, Facebook, email, or others. Use the following blending options for them.
Create an original RSS icon by performing the same actions as above the header background with the torn paper. Width and height about 135 * 82 px.
Create a shape for a folded paper corner.
Apply blending options Inner shadow (Inner shadow) and Color overlay (Color overlay), use the same settings as for the shape in the header above.
Download selection of this form. Navigate Select-> Inverse (Select-> Invert). Create a new layer and process the shape with a small round white brush to create a torn paper effect.
Make the following shape under the folded corner.
Apply a linear gradient for a folded corner, use colors: #ddca97, #bea87c, #eadebb, #ffffff, #fbf6e0, #ede2bf, #fff9dc .
Upload a selection of the created form. Go to layer Shiny paper, Copy the selected area and paste it on a new layer above the layer with a bent corner. Apply blend mode Multiply (Multiplication) Opacity (Opacity) 27%.
Insert the RSS icon below the curved corner layer. Apply some blending options to it.
Add a blog title and description.
Insert an image with a round hole for a date or comment count.
Draw tool LineTool (Line) line in 1px, color #d0c397.
Draw another line in 1px lighter colorfffbec just below.
Enter some name for the first post.
