Today we will draw such a pencil.

Step 1. Create a new document (Ctrl + N) size 950×600 pix. and resolution 300 pixels / inch, The background is white.
Then click Ctrl + R, to have a ruler. Now we need guides. Aim at the ruler and, holding the left mouse button, pull out the guide from there. We should have two vertical and three horizontal.
* To remove the Guides, click Ctrl + H. The same combination, so that they appear again *.

Step 2. Choose the tool “Rectangular area (Restangular Marquee Tool), style “fixed size” (Fixed Size), width 400 px, height 100 px and draw a rectangle in the center of the document.

Step 3. Now choose the tool “Gradient (Gradient Tool), gradient style “Steel Bar”.

Create a new layer, name it “body” and with the active selection on the layer “body” apply a gradient: draw a straight line from the lower border of the selection to the top.

Step 4. Adjust our image in the menu Image \ Correction \ Curves (Image \ Adjustments \ Curves) or Ctrl + M and try to make this curve:

Step 5. With the active selection, create a new layer (name “color”) and fill it with color # d60005, set opacity 60% deselect Ctrl + D.

Step 6. Duplicate the “body” layer (Ctrl + J), call it “metal” and place it on the layers palette at the top. Add another guide. Choose a tool “Rectangular area” (Restangular Marquee Tool), the selection style is normal and make a selection like in the image, click Delete, deselect Ctrl+D.

Step 7. Pull another vertical guide. Tool “Oval area” (Elliptical Marquee Tool) draw a round selection (hold down Shift). We click the RMB on the selection and choose “Transform Selected Area” (Transform Selection) and reduce the selection by half (set the width to 50% in the settings), move the selection to the right place, click Delete.

Step 8. Move the selection to another tip of the pencil.

Step 9. Tool “Rectangular area (Restangular Marquee Tool) while holdingShift, make a selection like in the picture. Invert selection Select \ Invert (Select \ Inverse) or (Shift + Ctrl + I) and press Delete. Deselect Ctrl+D.

Step 10. Now be careful! Load the selection layer “metal” – hold Ctrl+cry over the layer thumbnail and move this selection to four pixel to the right (4 times we press the right arrow on the keyboard), invert the selection (Shift+Ctrl+I).

Holding down three keys Shift+Ctrl+Alt, click on the thumbnail of the “metal” layer (the selection of the small strip will load), click Ctrl+J (layer “metal” hide).

Step 11. The embossed strip should be slightly larger, so apply the transformation Ctrl +T and in the settings set height of 102%. Apply the following layer styles:
Gradient overlay»(Gradient Overlay): Style (Style): mirror (reflected)
Stamping»(Bevel and Emboss):

Step 12. Duplicate the new layer several times (in our case 6 strips) and move the strips to the right. Merge all layers with stripes into one Ctrl+E, turn on the “metal” layer.

Step 13. Duplicate the “metal” layer (Ctrl+J) and name the “eraser.” Place the eraser layer under the metal layer and move the eraser layer to the right on 50-60 pixels (or tool “Moving (Move Tool) or all the same arrow on the keyboard).

For the eraser layer in the menu Image \ Correction \ Hue / Saturation (Image \ Adjustments \ Hue / Saturation) apply these settings:
Toning (Colorize): tick
Hue: 222
Saturation: 30
Brightness (Lightness): -56

Duplicate the “metal” layer again. (Ctrl+J) and name it “shadow”, place it under the “metal” layer. Go to the menu Image \ Correction \ Hue / Saturation (Image \ Adjustments \ Hue / Saturation) and in the dialog box the slider Brightness (Lightness): -100. Apply the Filter \ Blur \ Blur in Motion (Filter \ Blur \ Motion Blur): angle: 0 °, offset (Distance): 5 px. Now we can merge the “metal”, “shadow” layers and the Ctrl + E strips.

Step 14. Create a new layer and name the “tip” using the tool “Polygonal Lasso” (Polygonal Lasso Tool), make a selection, as shown below. Fill the selection with the color “Light yellow-orange” (f8b356), put this layer under the “body” layer, deselect Ctrl+D.

Step 15. Duplicate the “body” layer (Ctrl+J), name the “gradient” and move this layer to the very top. Ctrl+T, zoom out and move left as shown below.

Apply the command Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation) (Ctrl+U) and in the dialog box that opens, set these values:
Toning (Colorize): tick
Color tone (Hue): 33
Saturation: 53
Brightness (Lightness): 37

Step 16. Put the “gradient” layer above the “tip” layer and create a clipping mask. (right click on the “gradient” layer and choose “Create clipping mask” or hold down Alt Click on the layers palette between the layers “gradient” and “tip”).

Step 17. Being on the layer “gradient” go to the menu Editing \ Transforming \ Perspective (Edit \Transform \ Perspective), pull the knots to get something like that, push Enter.

Step 18. Make a selection, as in step 7, go to the “body“Click Delete and go to layer “Colour“Click Delete, deselect Ctrl+D.

Step 19. Go to layer “gradient“And create a new layer, name it”tree“. Load layer selection “Colour“(Ctrl+cry on layer miniature). Restore default colors by pressing D, then click X, To select white color and, being on the “tree” layer, fill the selection with white color. Move the layer to the left with the tool “Moving” (Move Tool) or arrow on the keyboard. Ctrl+T, right-click and select Flip Horizontal. Apply Filter \ Render \ Fibers (Filter \ Render \ Fibers): deviation 10, intensity 10.

Step 20.Ctrl+T, right click, “Rotate 90 ° clockwise “, drag left and apply Editing \ Transforming \ Perspective, as shown below:

Change blending mode (Blending mode) for layer on “Soft light” (Soft Light) and opacitys (Opacity) 60% make a binding, as in step 16, deselect Ctrl+D.

Step 21 Tool “Oval area (Elliptical Marquee Tool) let’s make a selection, as shown below. Select layer “tree” and press Delete. Go to layer “gradient“And apply the command Image \ Correction \ Hue / Saturation (Image \ Adjustments \ Hue / Saturation) (Ctrl + U) and the slider “Saturation“(Saturation) on -100. Apply the following command “Levels (Image \ Correction \ Levels) (Ctrl + L), settings below, deselect Ctrl+D.

Step 22. Merge all layers Ctrl+E, except the background. Name the layer “pencil”. Duplicate this layer 2 times and name one layer “reflection”, the second “shadow”. On the layers palette, place it like this: “pencil”, “shadow”, “reflection”. Go to the “shadow” layer and apply the command Image \ Correction \ Hue / Saturation, value for “Brightness»(Lightness): -90. Ctrl+T and reduce the layer as shown below.

Select the “reflection” layer and go to the menu. Editing \ Transforming \ Flip Vertically
Step 23 Select all layers except the background Ctrl+T and turn on -thirty, move the reflection layer as shown below.

Step 24 Select the reflection layer and apply Filter \ Blur \ Gauss Blur (Filter \ Blur \ Gaussian Blur) radius 3, Opacity for layer 60%. Select the “shadow” layer and apply Filter \ Blur \ Gauss Blur (Filter \ Blur \ Gaussian Blur) radius 7, Opacity for layer 80%.

Step 25. Make the “reflection” layer active and add layer mask (Add Layer Mask), apply gradient, settings below.

Step 26. Select the pencil layer and apply the layer style “Gradient Overlay (Gradient Overlay):
Blend Mode (Blend Mode): hard light (hard light)
