In this tutorial we will create a minimalistic blog layout.
- Social Icons
- Paper texture 1
- Paper texture 2
- Paper texture 3
Create a new document with a size of 950×1600 pixels (Ctrl + N).
Pull out two vertical guides from the ruler and place them along the edges of the document:
Add extra free space to the width of the document. Do it through the team Canvas size (Image – Canvas Size) (Image> Canvas Size) (Ctrl + Alt + C). In the window that opens, enter the values as in the screenshot:
In order to make it convenient to work, we will place all layers in groups. Each group will be called by the created elements. Click the button Create a new group (Create a New Group) at the bottom of the Layers palette.
Let’s start creating a design from the site header and name the first group “header”. To create a header, we will use paper texture 1. Open it and separate it from the background. To do this, click the tool Magic wand (Magic Wand Tool) on the background and invert the selection (Selection – Invert) (Select> Inverse) (Ctrl + Shift + I).
To increase the contrast and accuracy of the selection, use the command Refine edge (Selection – Refine Edge) (Select> Refine Edge) (Ctrl + Alt + R).
Copy the selected area to a new layer (Layer> New> Layer via Copy) (Ctrl + J).
Tool Move (Move Tool) drag the paper texture into our document and place the layer with it in the group “Header. Now rotate this layer 90 degrees counterclockwise (Edit – Transform – Rotate Counterclockwise) (Edit> Transform> 90 degree CCW), and then flip it horizontally (Ctrl + T).
Place the paper texture layer on the site header position (at the top of the document) and reduce the layer to 75%.
Apply the Hue / Saturation command (Ctrl + U) and decrease the Lightness parameter to -100.
Now add a logo to the header. To create a logo was used font VTKS Caveirada.
Write the names of the links on the header on the right side. In order for the names of the buttons to be located on the button, the tool Magnetic Lasso (Magnetic Lasso Tool).
Now add a texture to the background. Transfer the Paper Texture 3 to our document and place it under all existing layers.
Bleach the paper texture on the background (Ctrl + Shift + U), and with the help of the command Levels (Ctrl + M) adjust the brightness and contrast of the texture.
The site layout will consist of two columns. To begin with, let’s outline the area under the main content of the site. In Group “Content “draw an area under the content: tool Rectangular Selection (Marquee Tool) draw a rectangle 660 pixels wide and fill it with white (#ffffff).
Apply a layer style to the content area layer. Stroke (color is light gray, size 1 pixel).
Now add another paper texture to the content area – Paper Texture 2. Select a part of the texture and transfer it to our document.
Place the copied part of the paper texture above the content layer and reduce it.
Discolor this part of the texture (Ctrl + Shift + U) and using the Levels command, adjust its contrast.
Key pressed Ctrl click on the thumbnail of the layer with the content area to load the selection. Squeeze the selection by 3 pixels.
Invert the selection and press the key. Delete. So we created a contrast stroke.
Add a mask to the paper texture layer, select a black and white gradient and apply it to the mask by blending the bottom of the texture with the background.
In the Navigation group, create a navigation above the content area. Navigation buttons draw tool Rectangular Selection (Marquee Tool) and fill them with black (# 000000).
Now on one of the navigation buttons, make a twisted edge: select the edge of the button and apply the command Transform highlightedregion (Selection – Transform selection) (Select> Transform Selection). Hold down the Shift key, rotate the selection 45 degrees and press enter.
Cut the selected edge to a new layer (Layer – New – Cut to a new layer) (Layer> New> Layer Via Cut) (Ctrl + Shift + J) and rotate the resulting layer 180 degrees (Ctrl + T).
Brighten this part of the corner to be lighter by applying the command Hue / Saturation (Hue / Saturation).
Also add social icons next to navigation – use size 32×32.
To begin with, let’s add some additions to the content block. While holding down the Ctrl key, click on the thumbnail of the content layer to load the selection around it. Transform selection (Selection – Transform selection) (Select> Transform Selection). You need to add an indent of 230 pixels on each side (40 pixels in total).
Subtract 20 pixels from the width of the content area and get a content width of 620 pixels (660 – 40 = 620px).
Add along the guide on each side of the selection.
Choose a tool Text (Horizontal Type Tool) and the font Adobe Garamond Pro in the group “Content” write text.
Also, write the date the material was created and the name of the author who published it.
Draw a rectangular selection under the text and fill it with black (# 000000).
Add layer styles to this rectangle. Shadow (Drop Shadow) and Stroke.
Now you can place any image in the area with a black rectangle. Place the image above the rectangle and add a clipping mask to the layer with the image (right-click on the layer and select the item Create clipping mask) (Ctrl + Alt + G).
Also, draw a button Continue and fill it with color # 8e0a13.
Draw a 1 pixel separator line with the tool. Pencil (Pencil Tool).
Create a small black square and add those layer styles to it that were added to the black rectangle and write a paragraph of text. Add a picture to the black square.
In the same way, create a few more squares with posts.
Also, draw page navigation
Tool Rectangular Selection (Marquee Tool) Draw an area for the search string and fill it with white (#ffffff). There must be a distance of 20 pixels between the content area and the search string.
Apply a layer style to the search string layer. Inner shadow (Inner Shadow).
On the right side of the search bar, draw a red button (# 8e0a13) and add text to it.
Make a wrapped corner at the red button.
Go to the “Sidebar” folder and create an area for content in it using the tool Rectangular Selection (Marquee Tool).
In this area, add text and arrows from arbitrary shapes.
Set an indent of 20 pixels on each side of the content area and add guides. Write the text. Add separator lines 1 pixel wide with the tool Pencil (Pencil Tool).
Create more areas with content.
In the “Footer” group create a new layer. Draw a horizontal selection and fill it with black (# 000000).
On the footer tool Magnetic Lasso (Magnetic Lasso Tool) and fill the selection with black.
Add links and copyright to the footer.
Now create the texture. Create a new document and tool pencil (Pencil Tool) draw a pattern with a width of 1 pixel. Turn off the background layer and create a texture from the pattern drawn (Edit – Define Pattern).
Go back to the site layout. Above the background layer create a new layer and click Shift + F5. In the window that opens Fill (Fill) select the texture you just created and click OK.
We need to make a smooth transition from texture to background. To do this, double-click on the thumbnail of the texture layer to open the Overlay Settings window. Reduce the opacity, and in the This Layer tab adjust the black and white sliders: move the black slider to the right slightly. Hold Alt and move the slider. It will be divided into two markers. Adjust these markers to achieve the best result.
