Page layout for web site

In this lesson we will create a page layout for a web site.

Step 1. Creating a complete website layout begins with creating its initial layout, and only after that you can begin to design individual elements of the page.
The result is a modern and new web page – layout, ready for encoding.

Step2. Drawing inspiration from various modern web site projects, we will create this new page – the layout for the web site.
The key features of our web page will be in horizontal bars, the so-called “groups”: we need them in order to place the content of our web page in certain areas: the colorful header area — the head of the page will represent one section; Friendly welcome examples of work – the other part; and, the main part and the resource will fill the footer (footer).

Step3 Work on any project should begin with a sketch on paper.
With the help of a pencil, it is possible to create a plan for the future arrangement of parts of a web page on paper approximately or in detail.

Stepfour. Planning a framework for a future web page helps to develop a hierarchy and makes it clear how to better position the key points of the project.

Stepfive. Create a new document. It will be better if you make a new document with a size corresponding to the size of a widescreen monitor in order to better present what your web page will look like on a wide screen. For example, create a new document width – 1680 pixels height – 1050px.

Step6 Use the tool Guides“Guides” and place these guide lines in the center of your new document. The width of the guides is approximately 960 pixels. With the help of these guides, we will create the main grid, so that later it would be more convenient for us to visually position the main points of our web page.

Step7 Get started by creating a header strip: create a new layer, select a tool Rectangular Marquee Tool“Rectangular Selection”, On the new layer, draw a selection similar to the one shown in the image below and fill the selection with white color.

Next, enter the palette Layer styleLayer Styles, and add a layer style Gradient overlayGradient Overlay, select a gradient color from main to background (black to white) and adjustOpacity“Opacity” at your discretion, so that the effect of the gradient is not very dark. After all the manipulations, click “Yes”, to apply the effect Gradient overlayGradient Overlay. Gradient draw linear type.

Stepeight. Now again create a new layer and tool Rectangular Marquee Tool “Rectangularselection “ draw a selection area a little more than the previous one: the displayed content will be located here, and in the palette Layer styleLayer Styles add effect Gradient overlayGradient Overlay. Color gradient, select two bright colors (at your discretion); gradient type: Linear “Linear”. To add a little depth to this new layer, in the effects Layer style“Styleslayer “ enter the box Inner shadow“Inner Shadow” and at your discretion, set the parameters of the shadow.

Step9. Optional: Light texture can slightly refresh our web page design. After you have applied an effect to a drawn rectangular area Gradient overlayGradient Overlay from layer styles, you can apply a filter to this rectangle: Filter> Noise> Add noise (Filter – NoiseAdd noise) and put the overlay mode Multiply“Multiplication”.
(if after applying this filter “noise” is not visible, try turning off the visibility of the effect Gradient overlayGradient Overlay in the palette Layer“Layers”).

Stepten. Add a logo (brand name) of the company in that position on the screen, according to Grid“Grid” – “Guides”, then add style to this brand name Gradient overlayGradient Overlay and Inner shadow“Inner Shadow” from team Layer styleLayer Styles. Make the inner shadow very soft.

Step 11. Use the tool Type“Text” in order to create an inscription for the main navigation. Position the tool cursor.Type“Text” in the middle of a gray stripe with a gradient and write the text you need in a darker color than the background color of the stripe on which you write.

Step12. The feature of the title is that it occupies a larger place on the web page. It is the main center for the user.
Use the second bicolor gradient strip to place an introductory heading on it in a different font.

Step13. Continue to add detailed explanations to the headline, but this time using fonts. Arial or Helvetica.

Step14. Place the illustration you need (in our case it will be an illustration of a laptop computer). Also, on the screen of our laptop, we can place examples of work. Some examples you can find on this link: range of examples can be found here

Step15. Now, in order to emphasize our illustration (laptop), and visually highlight it, we will create a new layer, set it behind the illustration layer and add a radial gradient right in the center to the blue background. Adjust its brightness and opacity at your discretion.

Stepsixteen. Create a new layer and on it, below the bicolor central part with an illustration again draw a small rectangular area and fill it with a gray-white gradient.

Step17 Divide the middle of the page into two columns with the tool. Guides “Guides” relative to the grid lines. The main text will be placed on the left, and the additional information on your web page on the right. Use the tool Type “Text”, to create an inscription in these two columns. Select the font size and type (size and typeface) so that the text is easy to read.

Step18. Below this very main part of your page you can post the latest news or blogs. Divide the column into two additional columns and link to these blogs. Optionally, you can make it so that, following this link, its text will change its color.

Stepnineteen. Create a new layer. On it a tool Rounded Rectangle Tool“Rectangle withrounded corners draw just such a rectangle – with rounded corners. Draw in mode “Runpixel fill on the property bar, holding down the key while drawing <Shiht> in order to make the rectangle proportional. The color of the rectangle is set to gray.

Step20. After our rectangle is drawn, we need to add a linear gray-white gradient, a thin gray stroke and a soft inner shadow to it. We do all this with the help of the command. Layer styleLayer Styles, which is located at the bottom of the paletteLayer“Layers”.

Step21. Use a rectangle drawn and filled in with a gray-white gradient – a virtual panel in order to place in it a small screenshot and the necessary text relating to the main theme of the web page being created.

Step22 At the bottom of the gray rectangle on the new layer, draw another rectangle with rounded corners: it will act as a “button” on your web page. Add to this rectangle such Layer styleLayer Styles, like: gradient overlay and gray stroke. These Layer styleLayer Styles we add so that our “button” looks spectacular and stylized.

Step23. Write on the “button” the text you need (label), which will prompt users how to continue to browse further projects through the web page.

Step24 Mark the end of the content on the screen as a footer area. Do this with the new rectangular area that you create on the new layer and fill it with a light gray color.

Step25 Tool Elliptical Marquee Tool “Oval selection” On the new layer, draw a long and narrow ellipse and fill this selection with a radial gradient fill from black to transparent color. With the active layer with the drawn ellipse, press the key combination <Ctrl +T>, or:Edit>Transform> Scale(Editing – Transforming – Scaling) in order to create an ellipse to scale into a long and thin ellipse, like a shadow.

Step26 Place the ellipse – the shadow on the screen in the center, then remove the extra area above the footer. As a result, you should have a thin shadow that will add a small amount of detail.

Step27. The footer area contains enough free space to accommodate the secondary page elements. One of these elements can be “Customer Login Area”. To create this area, activate the tool. Type“Text”, create two (or several) text frames within which you place your text: login; password.
Created text frames can be given a small soft shadow using the function: Layer styleLayer Styles.

Step28 Use the central footer area to post company information. Create text using an easy-to-read font.

Step29. Now, add contact information in a large, readable font.

Stepthirty. In the end, after all the work done, we got an interesting web page. All elements are clearly located on the page, everything is readable and beautiful!

I wish you success!
