We draw an icon of a folder with documents in Photoshop

In this tutorial, you will learn how to draw a simple document folder icon in Adobe Photoshop.

Final image:

Step 1

Open Photoshop and create a new document, to do this, press the key combination Control + N. In the menu that opens, enter the following data:

  • Height (Width): 600 pixels (pixels)
  • Width (Width): 600 pixels (pixels)
  • Resolution (Resolution): 72 pixel / inch (pixels/inch)
  • Color mode (ColorMode): Rgbcolor, eight bit
  • Contentbackground (Background Contents): White (White)
  • Colorprofile (Color profile): sRGB IEC61966-2.1
  • Pop-Pixelproportion (Pixel Aspect Ratio): Squarepixels(square pixels)

After entering the data, click OK.

Then display the grid View – Show – Grid (View> Show> Grid) and enable the function to snap to grid lines Preview – Snap To – Grid Lines (View – Snap To – Grid). Now we need to adjust the grid settings, go to Editing – Settings – Guides, Grid, and Fragments (Edit> Preferences> Guides, Grid Slices) and focus on section Grid (Grid). Enter the value 5 in the field “Line through” (Gridline Every) and 1 in the field “Internal division into” (Subdivision). Set the mesh color to # a7a7a7.

After you have set all the settings, click OK. Do not be distracted by the grid, in the future it will facilitate our work. You can always disable or enable the grid using the CTRL + ”key combination. You should also open the Info panel (Window – Info (Window> Info)) to be able to current view the size and position of the shapes.

Step 2

Set the foreground light brown color (# c69c6d) and select the tool Rounded Rectangle (Rounded Rectangle Tool). At the top of the toolbar, set a radius of 5 px and create a vector shape measuring 105 x 15 px. Then, on the vector shape layer (the rectangle with rounded edges we just created), select the operation Combine shapes (Add to Shape Area) and add another rectangle with rounded edges of 40×20 px, then place it as shown in the image below.

Step 3

Go to panel Layers (Layers) (if the layers panel is not displayed, go to Window – Layers (Window – Layers)) and rename the vector shape to “back”, then double click on the layer to open the window Layer style (Layer Style). Apply the following effects to the layer: Inner shadow (Inner Shadow) and Gradient overlay (Gradient Overlay).

Choose a tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool) and create a rectangle with the size of 105 x 70 pixels, position it as shown in the first image. Press CTRL + T, enter a rotation angle of -5 ° at the top and press Enter.

Move this layer under the layer with the first blue rectangle, then right-click on it and select from the pop-up menu Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style).

Step 10

Choose a tool Rectangle (Rectangle Tool) and create a 105 x 70 px rectangle, place it as shown in the first image and press CTRL + T. At the top, enter a rotation angle of 3 ° and press Enter.

Move this layer under the layerfront ”, then right-click on it and select in the menu that opens Paste style layer (Paste Layer Style).

Step 11

Disable Grid (View – Show – Grid (View> Show> Grid)) and duplicate the layer called “front” (CTRL + J). Clear the duplicated layer style. To do this, right-click on the layer and select Clear layer style (Clear Layer Style).
