Many people say that angels do not exist. And the angels say that people are former angels who were guilty of something and were sent to Earth for correctional labor. Who knows, maybe this is true. Personally, I believe that each of us has a guardian angel who helps us in difficult times. Therefore, today I want to draw an angel with love and gratitude, which I wish for you. Well, let’s get started. Angels should not wait for us.
This is what should happen in the end:
To work, you will definitely need the following images, so do not be lazy to immediately download them and put them in a separate daddy:
Step 1. Open a new document with dimensions of 2048 X 1215 in CMYK color mode, 100 dpi. I like to use this particular mode because you can use the entire color palette in it. Name the layer “Ice Angel”.
Step 2. Open the image Sketch sketch.jpg. Now select the entire picture. Press the key combination CMD + A, or go to Select – Select all. Click CMD + C to copy the image and CMD + V to paste it into the document with our future angel. Name the layer “Sketch”
Now hide both layers by clicking on the peephole. We will deal with the background. Do not forget that our angel is made of ice, therefore, the background should not be very bright. Bright background will look unnatural, and parts of the composition will not fit well with each other.
Step 3. Open the image of lake.jpg (lake) and repeat everything you did in the second step. But only this layer should not be made invisible.
Step 4. Take MoveTool (tool move). Make sure the option is on. ShowTransformControls (show transformational control) in the upper left of the screen. Drag the image to the main document and adjust it to fit. To do this, using the transformation, hold Shift, then the image while decreasing saves the proportions of the original.
Step 5. With all this picture, we only need the lake itself, so delete everything else. Name the layer “Lake”.
Step 6. Staying on the “Lake” layer, go to Layer > Layermask > Revealall (layer – layer mask – show all) and make a mask. Thus, even if we spoil something, we can always go back and correct mistakes.
Step 7. Take BrushTool (brush). Set the stiffness to 0%, set the main color to black (# 000000) and start painting over wood and rocks, like in my picture:
Step 8. Open the Trees.jpg image (trees) and repeat step 2. Select MoveTool (move tool), transfer the image to the document and adjust it in size. You must place the layers as follows: Layer 2 “Trees” should be under the layer “Lake”.
Step 9. Now look: there is a strange branch hanging over the lake. We do not need it, so we will remove it. Grab the Clone Stamp Tool. While holding ALT, select the location from which you want to take a sample for cloning. Now release ALT and open a new layer. Start to gradually delete a branch by clicking on it. You need to change the source of cloning several times to give the image a natural look. And please do not forget about chiaroscuro! Alternately, take the light and dark areas of the image for cloning.
Step 10. Now repeat all this with a branch hanging over the grass.
Step 11. Let’s add reflections to the water. You are taking LassoTool (lasso) and select the trees and grass on the “Trees” layer. Now right click and make LayerViaCopy (copy layer). Name the new layer “Reflection of trees”
Step 12. You are taking MoveTool(move tool) and set the “Tree Reflection” layer above the original tree image. Now go to mode FreeTransform (free transform) and select the command FlipVertical (flip vertically). Click Enter to complete the operation. Set the blending mode for this layer. Multiply (multiplication) and reduce the fill (Fill) to 55%
Step 13. If you look carefully, you will see small ripples on the water. Accordingly, we will need to work on the reflection of water and slightly deform the contents of the layer. To do this, activate the layer “Reflection of trees” and go into Filter > Liquify (plastic filter). See how I did it and try to achieve the same result. Now at the bottom of the layers palette click on Addlayermask (add mask). Take the Gradient Tool (gradient) and make a linear gradient from black to white. Apply this gradient on the “Reflection of trees” layer mask.
Step 14. Let’s darken the sky now. Select the “Trees” layer and go to Layer > Duplicatelayer (layer – duplicate layer). We need to change the image a little, so we need to select only the area with the sky on this layer.
Go to Image > Adjustments > ReplaceColor (image-correction-replace color) and using pipette (eyedropper) select the desired shade for the sky. Set saturation to 0 and lightness to 100.
Step 15. Now go to Image > Adjustments > Levels (image-correction-levels), set the channels (channels) instead of RGB black (black) and drag the sliders, like mine. It should turn out like this:
Step 16. And now you can easily select the sky, and even the branches of the trees that overlap it cannot prevent it. Go to Select >Colorrange (select – color range) and click on the white color, which was our sky. Go to Select > Inverse (select –invert) and invert the selection. Now select the “Trees” layer and click on Addlayermask (add layer mask) Make the “Trees copy” layer invisible. Here is what is obtained so far:
Step 17. Open a new layer and name it “Sky”. Place it under the “Trees” layer. Take GradientTool (gradient) and again use a linear gradient from black to white, as in my picture:
Step 18. Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation (image – correction – hue / saturation), put a tick near the option Colorize. Decrease Lightness (lighting) at its discretion. Focus on my drawing:
Step 19. Now look: the gradient left very ugly horizontal lines. Let’s fix it. Go to Filter > Noise > Addnoise (filter – noise – add noise), select the option Gaussian (gauss) and set the amount (amount) to 2%. Overlay mode change to Multiply (multiplication).
Step 20. Yes, we still need to add clouds. Open the “clouds.jpg” image and repeat step 3 from our tutorial. Place the layer above the “Sky” layer and name it “Clouds”.
Step 21 Adjust the size of this layer to our image. You can also add perspectives to it. If you are satisfied with the result, change the blending mode to Overlay (overlay) and move on.
Step 22 Go to Layer > Newadjustmentlayer > Gradientmap (layer – new adjustment layer – gradient map). Select a diamond gradient from black to white.
Step 23 Add another filter. Go to Layer > AdjustmentLayer > Photofilter (layer – new adjustment layer – photo-filter). Select the cold filter (80) (Cooling filter (80)) and play with the settings. That’s what happened with me:
Step 24 Now it’s time to take care of our Angel. And then we are so carried away by the background that we almost forgot about it. Merge all layers except the “Sketch” layer (which we made invisible at the very beginning) into a group and name it “Background”.
Step 25. Open a new layer between the “Background” group and the “Sketch” layer. Take PaintBucketTool (fill) and fill the layer with black. We need this layer later. In the meantime, call it “Procurement” and proceed to the next step.
Step 26. Open the image Splash “splash.jpg”. Take LassoTool, select part of the picture with water, ice and splashes. Paste the selection into the main document:
Step 27. Now change the blending mode to Screen (clarification). Then go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate (image-correction-discolor).
Now we will make some shortcuts. Go to Edit > KeyboardShortcuts (edit shortcuts), select Edit(edit) and then Warp (deform). Click on the column Shortcut column (shortcut keys) and assign the desired key combination. I have this CMD + SHIFT + R. I promise that this way you will save a lot of time and nerves.
Step 28. Now we begin to work with the body of our angel. Activate the “Sketch” layer. Go to Image> Adjustments> Desaturate ((image-correction-discolor). Select BurnTool (dimmer) mode Midtones (mid tones) and Exposure (exposure) 100%. Thoroughly darken the outline of the image. After that, go to Image > Adjustments > Invert (image – correction – invert). You should now have a white outline and black paper:
Step 29. Now activate the spray layer and place it above the “Sketch” layer. Take MoveTool and place the contents of the Spray layer on top of the body outline. Now choose Edit > Transform > Warp (edit-transform-deform) and start shaping the splashes so that they merge with the body as much as possible. See how I did it:
Step 30. Go to Layer > DuplicateLayer (layer – duplicate layer) and repeat step 29. At this stage it is not necessary to be very careful, we will remove all errors later.
Step 31 Go to the “Splash” layer. Hold down the SHIFT key and click on the “Splash Copy” layer. Then go to Layer > Mergelayers (layer – merge layers), then duplicate the merged layer. Do this until the angel’s entire body is sprayed. Do not forget that we need to achieve the effect, as if the angel is made of ice, so be careful.
Step 32 Select all copies of the “Splash” layer, go to Layer > Mergelayers (layer – merge layers) and merge all the layer copies into one. Name the resulting layer “Body”.
Step 33 The outlines of the body are a little more sharp. This needs to be fixed. Duplicate the layer and go to Filter > Liquify (plastic filter). Try to soften the sharp corners and make the lines smoother. You should have a beautiful female body, not an anorexic supermodel!
Step 34 Now go back to the main layer “Body”, change the blending mode to Screen (clarification). Go to Layer > Layermask > Revealall (layer – layer mask – show all). Take BrushTool (brush) and start painting black on top of the areas you want to hide.
Step 35 It’s time to add some light. Take LassoTool and select wide white stripes on the “Sketch” layer. At the same time, the “Body” layer must remain active! Now do LayerViaCopy, that is, copy this layer. The new layer, which turned out, is called “Body copy”. Rename it to “Lighting”. Now put these 2 layers in one group and give it the name “Body”.
Step 36 Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussianblur (filter blur – Gaussian blur), set the blur radius to 10-12 pixels. Change the blending mode to ColorDodge (lighten the base), reduce the opacity to 75%.
Step 37. Now we will attach wings to our angel. Because what kind of an angel without wings? Open the image Wings wings.eps, choose the wing to your liking. Insert the wing into the main document. Name the layer “Wing”. Now open a new group (Layer group). In general, do exactly the same thing you did with the “Von” group. Place a “Wing” layer in this group, and name the whole group with the same name. Select the lock dead pixels option and start painting over the wing in white:
Step 38 Repeat the same steps that you did when working on the “Body” layer. Copy, paste, spray, distort them, trying to achieve the best possible result.
Step 39. Repeat steps 30-36 until the spray covers the entire body. Remember that in the end you should get the effect of transparent wings made of ice.
Step 40. Now drag the “Wings” group right above the icon CreateNewLayer (create a new layer). So you duplicate this group. Go to Layer > Mergelayers (layer – merge layers). Name the resulting layer “Wings Copy”. Now go to Edit > FreeTransform (edit – free transform) and select the command FlipHorizontal (flip horizontally). Take Move Tool (move tool) and move the second wing to the desired location. Change the blending mode to Screen(clarification).
Step 41 Activate FreeTransformTool (tool free deformation). While holding CTRL, resize the wing to add even more perspective. Experiment a bit and click Enter, when you are happy with the result.
Step 42. Now activate the Wings group. Take MoveTool and finally put the wing in place. Again, you can then merge the layers in the group and change the blending mode toScreen (clarification).
Step 43 Open the image Water Splash water_splash.jpg. Take LassoTool (lasso) and select the area, as in my picture. Transfer it to the main document.
Step 44. Take MoveTool (displacement tool) and position a piece of the image with water sprays just below the angel’s body. Spread it slightly so that parts of our picture do not look scattered.
Step 45. If you still remember, we made the “Procurement” layer. Now you can delete it. He has done his work. And now we will add a reflection of the body of an angel, wings and splashing water. For starters, duplicate each of the layers. Now activate the “Body copy” layer and switch to FreeTransform (free transformation). Choose an option Flip vertical (flip vertically). Post a copy like mine. Reduce transparency and content to 75%. Now add Filter> Distort> Wave (filter – tell – wave). Play with the settings. Name the layer “Body Reflection”.
Step 46 Repeat step 45 with the “Wing”, “Wing Copy” and “Spray” layers.
Then open a new layer. Activate EllipticalMarqueeTool (ellipse), set the feathering to 30 pixels. Make an ellipse like mine and fill it with white. Set the Screen blending mode (lightening), reduce the transparency. Focus on my drawing:
Step 47. At the end I added a few drops of water dripping from the wings of the angel. Open the droplets image droplets.jpg, select them and transfer them to the main document. Go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate (image – correction – discolor). Take MoveTool (movement tool) and resize them to fit the size of the wings. Change the blending mode to Screen (clarification). Now with the help BurnTool (dimmer) hide the gray background:
Step 48 Open a new layer, take RectangularMarqueeTool (rectangle) with a shading of 30 pixels. Select a plot with a lake. Go to Filter > Render > Clouds (filter rendering – clouds). Make sure that the foreground color is white and the background color is light gray. Set the blending mode to Overlay. Name the layer “Fog”.
I added a correction layer as well. Selectivecolor (selective color correction). Select the submenu option Yellow (yellows) and reduce the value to -99. Now select the option Cyanic (Cyans) and reduce it and yellow tones to a minimum. Thus, you will remove a little yellowness from the entire image.
That’s all. You see, with just a rough sketch and a few interesting images, we managed to create a wonderful picture in Photoshop. Try now to take some of your images and create your own personal guardian angel. And may he protect you from all troubles and tribulations. Good luck!
