Apocalypse Scene in Photoshop – Part 3

Here is the third and final part of the lesson on creating the apocalypse scene based on the movie “2012”.

Step 1

In this part we will continue to work out the details of the ocean.

Step 2

Choose a tool Clone Stamp (Clone Tool) with a chalk brush and a size of 87 pixels.

Step 3

With the selected tool, delete the trees:

Duplicate the ocean layer (Ctrl + J), move up and turn off its visibility. Go to the original ocean layer and change its blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light).

Select tool again Clone Stamp (Clone Tool) and remove the trees:

Stamp the right side of the ocean to change its color tone:

Move this layer with the ocean above the layer with smoke and continue working on another layer.

Remove the stones:

Then, move both layers with the ocean under the smoke layer and merge them into one layer (Ctrl + E).

After merging the layers with the ocean, the blending mode “disappeared” – again change the blending mode to Soft light (Soft Light) and add a mask to the layer. Brush black on the mask, remove all that is above the rocks:

Add a correction layer above the ocean layer Levels (Levels) with clipping mask:

Add also adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance) with clipping mask.

Also add an adjustment layer. Hue / Saturation (Hue /Saturation) with clipping mask to slightly reduce saturation:

Open another image of the ocean and transfer it to the main document. Reduce the layer with this ocean (Ctrl + T).

Arrange the layer with the ocean, as shown in the screenshot, change its perspective, add a mask to it and hide some parts:

Add adjustment layers to this ocean layer Levels (Levels) and Hue / Saturation (Hue /Saturation), to fit the ocean under the color shade of the rest of the water.

Transfer this image of the ocean back to the main document, reduce the layer with it. (Ctrl + T) and place as shown below. Add a mask to this layer and hide some parts of the ocean:

Add a correction layer to the ocean layer you just added. Levels (Levels) and Hue / Saturation (Hue /Saturation).

On the mask, erase some parts of the ocean so that a building can be seen through it.

Transfer the image of the beach to the main document and scale it. (Ctrl + T), as shown in the screenshot.

Change the layer blending mode with the beach to Soft light (Soft Light) and hide some areas on the mask:

Create a new layer. (Shift + Ctrl + N) – on it we will finish the ocean. Use the stamp to clone the details of the ocean, drawing to the point where it is needed:

Draw stamped foam and sea along the edges of the rocks:

Continue to draw water:

Try to clone different areas when drawing, so that the water does not have the same repetitions:

Part 11. Final detail of the rocks

Step 1

Open the image of the rock, select it and copy the selection to a new layer. (Ctrl + J). Transfer this layer to the main image and scale it. (Ctrl + T).

Clone the details from this rock and add them to the area shown in the screenshot:

Select a part of the image on a layer with rock and slightly enlarge it. (Ctrl + T).

Add details along the edges of the rock – be guided by the screenshots:

Select brush about 2 pixels in size.

Step 6

Take a color swatch from a light area of ​​sea foam and trace the flowing water off a cliff:

Add a correction layer to this part of the rock. Levels (Levels), and then instrument Cloning stamp (Clone tool) Draw more details by adding depths and shadows:

After applying the corrective layers, the rock became darker and brighter. It is necessary to slightly reduce the impact of these adjustment layers. To do this, use a soft black brush about 36 pixels in size to go over the masks of these adjustment layers.

In the area where the rock meets the ocean, you need to draw in detail the water stamp.

It is necessary to slightly draw the lower part of the rock with the help of a stamp.

Draw a pillar of smoke, as painted earlier.

Part 12. Destroyed buildings and drawing

Step 1

Go back to the rock layer and add an adjustment layer to it.
Curves (Curves) with clipping mask.

Step 2

Add also adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance) with clipping mask – it will give a cool color shade.

Step 3

Switch to adjustment layer Curves (Curves), which is under the adjustment layer Color balance (Color Balance) and with a small black brush on his mask, erase the part a little, as shown in the screenshot:

Place the smoke on the building as shown in the screenshot and erase it a little.

Step 5

Select an eraser of 500 pixels and erase some of the smoke.

Step 6

Now we will create the effect of destroyed buildings. First, select the tool Lasso (Lasso Tool).

Draw a selection around the top of the building, copy it to a new layer (Ctrl + J) and rotate:

Select eraser brush chalk and erase the edges of the layer with the top of the building, which turned:

Create a new layer with clipping mask. (Shift + Ctrl + N) and use the stamp to draw the background in the fall area of ​​the building:

Go to the layer shown in the screenshot and select the specified brush:

Take a sample of the light area on the building and start drawing debris falling from it. To draw darker areas, take a color swatch from a dark area of ​​the building.

Do the same with another building:

Tool Cloning stamp (Clone tool) Draw the edges of the building by taking a sample from the background. Also draw the falling debris and add smoke.

Step 14

Switch to the smoke layer and adjust its brightness with an adjustment layer. Levels (Levels).

Continue to use the same brush and draw smoke in the same area of ​​the image as shown in the screenshot.

Go to the last layer with the ocean and select a brush size of 23 pixels.

Now draw the wreckage that falls from the building into the water.

Part 13. Final details and shadow creation

Step 1

Create a new layer (Shift + Ctrl + N) and select the tool
Cloning stamp (Clone tool).

Step 2

We need to draw on the water reflection from the building. To do this, change the blending mode of the layer you just created to Soft Light and reduce its opacity to 35%.

Step 3

Now stamped Take samples from the building and transfer them to the water. In the same way create a reflection from other buildings that are in the water:

On the same layer stamp add a reflection from the rocks:

Go to the smoke layer and erase part of it:

Above all layers add an adjustment layer. Curves (Curves).

Select a brush and slightly erase the effect of the adjustment layer on its mask:

Erase the effect of the correction layer from the ocean and a little from the smoke. If you want to keep the smoke dark, do not wash it.

Step 9

Reduce image saturation by adding above all layers
adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue /Saturation).

Also, on the mask of this adjustment layer, slightly erase its effect:

Add adjustment layer Photo filter and select the color that is shown in the screenshot. Reduce the opacity of this adjustment layer to 50% and density to 84%.

Above all layers also add an adjustment layer. Curves (Curves).

Choose a tool Oval selection area (Elliptical Marquee Tool) and draw a selection like below:

Without changing the tool, right-click on the selection and
select item Feather (Feather). Set the shading value to 400 pixels.

Fill the selection with black, add a mask and erase the center of the image filled with black. Get a vignette.

Now we need to erase the effect of the adjustment layer. Curves (Curves). To erase on his mask of this adjustment layer with a black brush:
