Biomechanics

Hello! In this lesson I will tell you how you can make this effect in the style of Dark Art “Biomechanics”.

For this photo manipulation, I took a photo of the ex-wife of Merlin Manson Dita Von Thies, may Menson forgive me.

So, let’s begin. First you need to download the archive with the pictures that I used in this collage, although the image of the girl can be replaced by any other. This is optional. Download the archive here.

Step 1. Unpack the downloaded archive and open the image of the girl in Photoshop, make a copy of the layer (ctrl + J) just in case, and work with it. First let’s go to filter> liquefy (plastic filter) and we will do for her (for more fear) hands like an anorexic patient (who is too lazy to skip this step). To do this, take the tool pucker tool (s) (narrowing) brush size is approximately 700 pixels. and walk a little hands, so it turned out as in the figure below (where the image is distorted at the edges, you can then trim).

Step 2. Then in the same filter> liquify (plastic filter) choose the tool forward warptool (w) (deformation) with a brush size of about 550 pixels and increase the jaw slightly. Later we will impose a texture on the face, so it’s okay that the mouth was distorted.

Step 3. Now from the previously downloaded archive, take the texture called Hole in a wall (hole in the wall) and paste it into our image, make four more copies of this layer (ctrl + J) so we should have them 5. Hide until these four copies by clicking on the eye in the layers panel.

Step 4. We set the opacity of 50% (opacity) of our texture to see later where to adjust the texture on the face.

Step 5. We select the tool free transformation edit> free transform, or by pressing ctrl + T, and adjusting our texture to the desired size and location (for those who do not know what to reduce the image without changing the proportions, you need to hold down the shift key).

Step 6. After the winged texture we take eraser with soft edges the size of the brush is about 300-350 pixels, gently wipe the edges of the texture along the contour of the face and return the opacity (opacity) to 100%. We do the same with the other four copies, we look and adjust them already on the girl’s body and forehead.

In principle, already scary, but this is not where our work ends. And you can say that just started.

Step 7. We glue all the layers into one and reduce the color saturation to -50 for this we go image> adjustments> hue / saturation ((ctrl + U) image> correction> hue / saturation) and move the slider Saturation (saturation) to the left to -50.

Step 8. Now we take an eraser and erase everything that we have inside our holes.

In principle, this can be done using a layer mask, but let those who can do this, I will not paint it.

Step 9. And now we need the image of the mechanism at number 1 from our downloaded archive. Open and paste it under the girl’s layer and with free transform (free transformation (ctrl + T)) we fit under our first hole.

Step 10. The image of the mechanism we have is too light, so go image> adjustments> brightness / contrast (image> correction> brightness / contrast) and move the slider brightness (brightness) all the way to the left to darken it.

Step 11. Then we open the image of the mechanism at number 2 and, just like with the first mechanism, we adjust to our second hole on the girl’s shoulder.

And those parts of the image that we have superimposed on neighboring holes, wipe eraser.

Step 12. The photo of the second mechanism is also too light and differs in color from the previous mechanism, so we go image> adjustments> hue / saturation (image> correction> hue / saturation (ctrl + U)) and set the settings as in the picture.

And do not forget to put a tick on colorize (toning). These settings are approximate, so you can play with them yourself.

Step 13. Then we open the image of the mechanism at number 3 and also adjust the hole at the mouth.

Step 14. Now go to image> adjustments> hue / saturation (image> correction> hue / saturation) (ctrl + U) and set such settings only not to put a tick on colorize (toning).

Step 15. We will create a new layer under all layers and fill it with black to fill in the remaining two small holes on the forehead and neck.

Step 16. Open the image of the last mechanism at number 4, in this image we need only the wire. Carefully cut it out and add some contrast to it, go to image> adjustments> curves (image> correction> curves) and set strong contrast (strong contrast).

Step 17. Just add a little drop shadow, go layer> layer style> drop shadow (layer> layer style> drop shadow) and expose such settings.

Step 18 Now we drag the image of the wire into our image, while also under the layer with the girl and by cloning the wire layer (ctrl + J) we expose the wires to different places, so that there is a feeling that they hover inside.

Step 19.Now we need to drown our wires and mechanisms deep into. To do this, create a new layer right under the girl’s layer, take a black brush with soft edges about 300 pixels in size and 30% opacity (opacity) 30%. Let’s walk several times along the edges of our holes, as if to darken the edges, just do not overdo it with the darkening. It should be about the following.

Step 20. Now let’s take the wires that go on top of the girl. Copy the layer of any wire from the existing ones (ctrl + J), remove the drop shadow layer style (drop the shadow), simply click on the wire layer to open the layer style settings twice and remove the check mark from drop shadow (casting shadow).

Step 21 Now, move the layer with the wire on top of the girl’s layer (ctrl +]), duplicate it two more times (ctrl + J) and set it in those places as in the picture, erasing too much eraser with soft edges.

Step 22.Just as we did with the wires inside the girl, we must now darken the ends of the wires that go above, so that there is a feeling that they go deep into the girl. To do this, we will create a new layer on top of all layers, we look so that we have a selection on our top layer and holding ctrl by clicking the mouse on the layer with the wire (any of these three), a dotted selection of this wire will appear. The same brush of black color with soft edges and opacity (opacity) 30% walk on the ends of the selection.

Well, the entire length of the wire just once, too, you can walk, so that the wire was not so light. By analogy, we do everything, too, and with the remaining two wires on the neck and on the forehead.

Step 23 Now we need an image. wire (postings) from our downloaded set to create the effect of a wire torn off (or torn from somewhere). Open the image wire (wiring) and place under a layer of wire, which is located on the forehead. Via free transform (free transform (ctrl + T)) customize and reduce our image size.

Step 24 Also use any of the blackout methods, I did this: image> adjustments> brightness / contrast (image> correction> brightness / contrast) and moved the slider brightness (brightness) to the left until it stops.

Step 25. Duplicate the image (ctrl + J) 3-4 times. You can also deform some of the layers with edit> free transform> warp (edit> free transform> warp) so that they are not the same and bend. It should turn out like this.

Step 26. Merge all layers of the image wire (wiring) and the wire that sticks out of the forehead in one layer.

Step 27. Now do the shadow of the wires that go on top of the girl. Usually I do the shadow like this: I create a clean layer under the image that will have a shadow. Сtrl + click the image, a selection will appear, fill it with black color on the new layer, remove the selection (ctrl + D), set the opacity (opacity) of the layer to 75% and blend mode to multiply (blackout). Then blur in Gauss 5-7 somewhere filter> blur> Gaussian blur (filter> blur> blur over gauss). All shadow is ready.

Step 28. Then I push this shadow to lay correctly. But you can use any other way to create a shadow in the flesh before drawing it by hand.

Step 29. And finally, let’s open our texture from the downloaded set, paste it on top of all layers, set the blend mode to overlay (overlap) and opacity (opacity) set at 60% and that’s all, our image is ready! That’s what happened.

I hope you will understand everything in this lesson and you will like it. I painted this lesson, as I did, you can experiment and not adhere to the framework of the lesson. I wish you all good luck in learning Photoshop.
