Step 1

So, create a new document, for this we go to the menu File – New (File> New) and apply the following values in the appropriate fields:

Width(Width) – 2500px
Height(Height) – 2500px

Step 2

Open the stock image Primary Rear Background in Photoshop. Copy and paste this image onto our working paper. Name this layer ‘Primary Background’. To rename a layer, double click on the text box. Layer 1 (Layer 1), (you can see the name of the layer in the layers palette) to change the text.

Choose a tool Transformation (transform tool (Ctrl + T). With this tool, apply scaling to our image. The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 3

Next, we will carry out the color correction of the image. Let’s go Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Hue / Saturation (Layer> New Adjustment layer> Hue and Saturation). In the window that appears, put a tick in the box Use previous layer to create clipping mask. (Create clipping mask). Apply the following values:

Settings for the adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue and Saturation):

Color tone(Hue): -10
Saturation (Saturation): -35
Brightness(Lightness): 0

The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 4

Next, open the stock image Background 2 in Photoshop. Name this layer ‘Background 2 ‘. We do not need the sky, so we frame this image. Choose a tool Frame (Crop tool (C) and further, using this tool, crop the required area:

Move the selected area to our working paper. Press Ctrl + T to activate the tool. Free Transformation (free transform tool). Pull the squares to scale the image. Place this part of the image on top of the layer with the main background, located on the left side of the document.

The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 6

Next, we will color correct this part of the image to match the entire composition.

Color tone(Hue): +32
Saturation(Saturation): -49
Brightness(Lightness): 0

Next, we will add an adjustment layer. Brightness / Contrast (Brightness / Contrast). Use this adjustment layer also as a clipping mask. As soon as the adjustment layer window appears Brightness / Contrast (Brightness / Contrast), apply the following values:

Settings for the adjustment layer Brightness / Contrast (Brightness / Contrast):

Brightness(Brightness): +5
Contrast(Contrast): -26

After applying the adjustment layers Hue / Saturation (Hue and Saturation) and Brightness / Contrast (Brightness / Contrast), the result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 7

In conclusion, let’s brighten the central part of the image. To do this, create a new layer (Ctrl + N). Choose a tool Brush (Brush tool (B) and further, apply the following settings, which are listed below:

Brush size (Brush size): 1500px
Rigidity (Hardness): 0%
Opacity (Opacity): 35%
Pressure (Flow): 100%
Colour(Color): #ffffff

Once you have set up the brush, apply it in the center of the image:

The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 8

Next, let’s group all the layers we have created at the moment. To do this, select all the layers + press Ctrl + G. Once you have created a group, name this group “Back Background”.

Step 9

Open the stock image of a man. Using tool Pen (pen tool), create a selection around the image of a man. Move the selected image to our working paper. Name the layer with the man ‘Hero’. Position the image with a brave hero, as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 10

Add a correction layer to the Hero layer Hue / Saturation (Hue and Saturation). Use this adjustment layer also as a clipping mask.

Settings for the adjustment layer Hue / Saturation (Hue and Saturation):

Color tone(Hue): -180
Saturation(Saturation): -63
Brightness(Lightness): -7

Step 11

In this step, we will use a layer mask. It is very important for me to work with layers in Photoshop. Layers are located in the layers palette (F7).

So, it’s time to apply a layer mask, being on the ‘Hero’ layer, add a layer mask to this layer. Make sure the mask layer is active before working, then select the tool Brush (Brush tool (B) and apply the following values:

Brush size (Brush size): 125px
Rigidity (Hardness): 0%
Opacity(Opacity): 26%
Pressure(Flow): 100%

So, with the help of a soft black brush, process the toes of a man on a layer mask.

After processing on a layer mask:

Step 12

Step 12 is optional, but I use this technique when I add a model image to a working document. Create a new layer, name this layer “Light”. Move this layer down, placing it under the ‘Hero’ layer.

Choose a tool Brush (Brush tool (B) and apply the following values:

Brush size (Brush size): 80px
Rigidity (Hardness): 0%
Opacity (Opacity): 34%
Pressure (Flow): 100%
Colour(Color): #ffffff

As soon as you set up the brush, gently paint over the brush around the man’s body. The main thing is not to overdo it, so the picture will look more natural. The reason why I use this technique is to select a model, to emphasize certain areas or to combine the image of the model with the background.

The result should be as in the screenshot below:

Step 13

Next, create another new layer (Ctrl + N). Name this layer ‘Blackout’. Choose a tool Brush (Brush tool (B) and apply the following values:

Brush size (Brush size): 1000px
Rigidity (Hardness): 0%
Opacity(Opacity): 30%
Pressure(Flow): 100%
Colour(Color): # 000000

Apply the brush in the direction of the red arrow:

Result

Next, let’s group all the layers we created. To do this, select all layers + press Ctrl + G. Once you have created a group, name this group на Hero ’.

Step 14

So let’s add some snow! Let’s open the Brush Snow. Create a new layer, name this layer ‘snow 1 ‘. Press B to activate the brush tool, and then apply the following settings for the brush:

Brush size (Brush size): 1600px
Rigidity (Hardness): 0%
Opacity (Opacity): 90%
Pressure (Flow): 100%
Colour(Color): #ffffff

Choose Brush Snow # 197. Using this brush, arbitrarily, draw snowflakes. Make sure the snowflakes do not look aligned, but are randomly scattered.

Pay attention to too large fragments of snowflakes. We do not want their presence, because they distract the attention of the observer and scatter the entire image, therefore, we will get rid of them with a soft brush:

Step 15

Create a new layer, name this layer ‘Snow 2 ‘and randomly draw snow, just like we drew snow on the layer‘ Snow 1’. Also remove unwanted snowflake fragments. Next, being on the layer ‘Snow 2 ‘, we go Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion blur). Apply the following settings:

Filter Settings Motion blur (Motion blur):

Angle(Angle): 30
Bias(Distance): 45

Result

Step 16

In order to add a little more depth, we will draw other snowflakes; this time, we will draw larger snowflakes. Create a new layer, name this layer ‘Snow 3 ‘, select the tool Brush (brush tool (B) and apply the following settings:

Brush size (Brush size): 900px
Rigidity (Hardness): 0%
Opacity (Opacity): 90%
Pressure (Flow): 100%
Colour(Color): #ffffff

After that, select brush # 151 and randomly draw snowflake fragments on the ‘Snow 3 ‘layer.

Result after random addition of snowflakes:

Step 17

As in Step 15, we will apply motion blur to this layer. So let’s go Filter – Blur – Motion Blur (Filter> Blur> Motion blur). Apply the following settings:

Filter Settings Motion blur (Motion blur):

Angle(Angle): 25
Bias(Distance): 112

The result after applying the filter Motion blur (Motion blur):

In the layers palette, being on the ‘Snow 3 ‘layer, reduce the layer opacity to 50%.

The result after reducing the opacity of the layer:

Select all the layers with snow, and then group them (Ctrl + G). Name the group ‘Snow’.

Step 18

Next, we will enhance the color shades of our composition. Let’s start by creating a corrective layer. Color Balance (color balance). When the settings window appears, apply the following values:

Color Balance / Levels (Color levels): +5, -5, -5
Tone Balance (Tone Balance): Mid tones (Midtones)
Save glow (Preserve luminosity): Put a tick

Result

Step 19

Next, let’s also make a correction. Curves (Curves). Create a new adjustment layer. Curves (Curves). Apply the following settings:

Output (Output): 232
entrance (Input): 224

Step 20

Finally, add an adjustment layer. Colour (Solid Color). Apply the following settings:

Blend mode (Blending): Soft light (Soft Light)
Opacity (Opacity): 100%
Fill (Fill): 100%

You can see the final result in the screenshot below. I hope you enjoyed the lesson, I will be glad to hear your comments on the technique of execution and the result.
