Coloring photos in photoshop

In this lesson we will learn how to make an interesting colorization of a photo. This technique is very simple, but quite spectacular.

So let’s get started!

First you need to select a photo that will be colored. Open it in Photoshop.

Create a new layer and fill it with a dark blue color (#0000ff). The blend mode is changed to An exception (Exclusion) and opacity reduced to 50%.

Now again create a new layer and fill it with a beige color (#ffcc99). The blend mode is changed to Overlap (Overlay) and opacity reduced to 50%.

Create a new layer and fill it with black (#000000). The blend mode is changed to Soft light (Soft Light) and opacity is also reduced to 50%.

Now duplicate the photo itself and move it to the very top (so that it is above the other layers). The blend mode is changed to Hard light (Hard Light).

That’s all! The layers palette at the end of the work should look like this:

And the final image should look like this:

But what happened to me (translator):

To achieve the same effect, you can also use Adjustment layers and fill layers. They can be created in the Layers menu.
