Create a collage “At Sunset”

Welcome to this lesson, in which we will use different images to create a saturated sunset. Sometimes, to create such a realistic effect, you need to use complex techniques and methods, but in this lesson I will show you how, using very simple techniques, you can get excellent results.

Step 1

Create a new document size 850? 1000 pixels, with a resolution of 72 pixels / inch, RGB colors of 8 bits and fill it with color by going to the main menu: Layers (Layer) – New layer fill (New Fill Layer) – Colour (Solid Color). Choose blue color # 0a293e

Then, open the image with the landscape and paste it into our document:

Now, use the tool. Eraser (Eraser Tool) (E) round shape and hardness of 0%, or add a layer mask: Layers (Layer) – Layer Mask (Layer Mask) – Show all (Reveal All) and paint over black, hiding the top of the image.

Step 2

Then, open the second image with the landscape, copy and paste it into our work, position it as in the image below:

Hide the top of the image using the Tool. Eraser (Eraser Tool), or add a layer mask.

Now, being on the second layer with the landscape, go to Menu – Picture (Image) – Correction (Adjustments) – Color tone / Saturation (Hue / saturation), adjust the settings slider, as in the image below:

Translator’s Note: Be sure to tick the Toning.

Step 3

Then open the clouds image, copy and paste into our work, place it as in the image below:

Translator’s Note: The author “turns over” an image with clouds. To achieve this result, use Transformation: menu – Editing (Edit) – Transformation (Transform) –Scaling (Scale) – Flip by horizontals (Flip Horizontal)/Flip by vertical (Flip Vertical).

Then, in the same way as in the previous steps, hide part of the image using the Tool Eraser (Eraser Tool), or add a layer mask.

Change the layer’s overlay mode to Light replacement (Lighten)

Step 4

Now, open another image with the cloud, insert it into our work and, repeating the actions performed above, position it as in the image below.

Then add a new layer: menu – Layers (Layer) – Hnew (New) – Layer (Layer) and follow this lesson (https://www.tutsps.com/post/2017/02/10/creer-une-scene-de-pleine-lune-romantique-sousphotoshop-cc-2017/), to create stars:

Translator’s Note: The author uses the Star brush here; to set the brush go to menu Editing (Edit) – Sets (Presets) – Kit Management (Preset Manager), select the type of set: brush – download – select the file ABR Brushes Stars – download.

Step 5

Now open and insert a light flare into our work, place it in the area of the setting sun.

Change the blending mode of the layer with the glare to Lightening basics (Color Dodge).

Step 6

Then open the image of the girl.

Take Tool Fast allotment (Quick Selection Tool) (W) and separate the model from the background.

In Photoshop CS5, CS6, CC versions go to Menu – Allotment (Select) – Specify edge (Refine Edge) and then use the lesson for perfect hair trimming (https://www.tutsps.com/post/2010/05/22/le-detourage-parfait-des-cheveux-avec-photoshop-cs5/).

In Photoshop CC 2017, go to Menu – Allotment (Select)Selection and mask (Select and Mask). Use the Edge Correction Tool (R) and add fine details to the total weight of the selected hair.

Then go to menu – Editing (Edit) Transformation (Transform) – Flip by horizontals (Flip Horizontal).

Take Tool Stamp (Clone Stamp) (S) and try to add more hair, to do this, hold down the Alt key and left-click to select the area from which you will copy. Release the Alt button and left-click to select the area where you want to insert the cloned region.

Repeat these steps several times to get the following effect:

Then merge all the layers (Ctrl + E) into one, copy and paste the model image into our working document.

Right-click on the layer with the girl and go to the layer style Inner shadow (Inner Shadow), set the following parameters:

The model is completely filled with black color, and in order to get realistic lighting effects, we simply hide the black color in the places we need – at the edges of the figure.

To do this, stand on the fill layer mask, take the Tool Brush (Brush Tool) (B) with the following parameters:

  • Black colour
  • The size (Size): 20 pixels
  • Hardness (Hardness): 0%.
  • Opacity (Opacity): 60%
  • Pressure (Flow): 30%

Then paint over the mask layer, on the edge of the hair and face to hide the effect of the fill layer fill.

Do the same around the contour in the direction of the light.

Step 8

Now, add a new layer: menu – Layers (Layer) – New (New) – Layer (Layer), in the dialog box, put a tick “Use the previous layer to create a clipping mask”, set the layer blending mode to Overlap (Overlay).

Then, paint over the edges to get an internal glow.

If you do not have such a function, you can try replacing this step: make a copy of the merged layer by pressing the key combination (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E), then change the mode of this layer to Soft Color, and lower the opacity to 50%.

Step 10

Switch to layer style External glow (Outer Glow), set the settings:

Translator’s Note: on the screenshot
